112 War Services of Retired Colonels.
53 Sir Ord Honyman served with the Grenadier Guards in the campaign of 1814 in Holland,
and was present at the Bombardment of Antwerp and Storming of B?rgen-op-Zoom where he
commanded the leading sub-division of the storming party of the Grenadier Guards.
•55 Colonel Ilorton served in the Peninsula with the 71st Uegt. and was present at the battles of
Nivelle, Nive, Orthcs, and Toulouse, for which he has received tlie War Medal with four Clasps,
He served also the Waterloo campaign.
50 Colonel Hughes served in the Peninsula from 1809 to 1814, including the first siege of
Bddajoz, and the battles of Busaco, Vittoria (wounded), Salamanca, and the Pyrenees, besides
various minor actions and skirmishes. Present at Waterloo on the IGth, 17th and 18th June,
and was wounded on the 18th. Ife has received the War Medal with four Clasps.
57 Colonel the Honourable II. Hely Ilutchinson joined tlie Army in the Peninsula on the
12th July 1811, and was shortly afterwards appointed to a Troop in the 4th Portuguese
Cavalry, but was employed principally on the Staff until the conclusion of tlie war in 1814.
He was present in most of the affairs in which Lord Hill's Division was eng-aged, particularly at
the surprise of the Bridge of Almarz ; and he was one of the first who gave information that the
French had passed the Tornics. He served al»o the Waterloo campaisn.
59 Colonel Jodrell served in Sicily in 180G and 1807. He went to Cadiz in March 1810, and
remained there till April 1811, having been present at the battle of J5arrosa. In Sept. 1812 he
joined the Duke of Wellington's army in the Peninsula, and served there until the end of that
war in 1816. He has received the War Medal with three Clasps for Barrosa, Nivelle, and Nive.
60 Colonel Keane served with the 2.3rd Regt. on the expedition to the north of Germany iu
1805 ; in Portugal and Spain under Sir John Moore, including the retreat to, and the battle of,
Corunna. Served afterw,ards in the Peninsula with the 7th Hussars, and as Aide de Camp to
Sir Hussey Vivian, from November 1813 to the end of the war in 1814, including the battles of
the Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse. Also the campaign of 1815 in the same capacity, and was
present at the battle of Waterloo and capture of Paris. He has received the War Medal with
four Clasps for Corunna, Nive, Ortlics, and Toulouse.
01 Colonel Kyle served in the Peninsula with the old 94th, from Jan. ISIO to the end of the
war in 1814, including the defence of Caliz, lines at Torres Vedras, aotions at Redinha, Casal
Novo, Foz d'Aroucp, and Sibugal; battle of Fuentcs d'Onor, second siege of Badijoz, action at
El Bodon, siege and storm of Ciudad Rodrigo (slightly wounded), third siege of Badajoz, and
storming of Fort Picurina, where he was severely wounded in leadingthe 94th party 3rd Division
to one of the most desperate assaults that took place during the war; retreat to Portugal, battles
of Vittoria, the Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Orthes; action at Vic Bigorre, and battle of Toulouse.
He ha? received the Gold Medal for Vittoria, (having succeeded to the command of the Regi¬
ment); and the Silver War Medal with eight Clasps.
02 Colonel Line served with the 15th Hussars during the campaigns of 1813, 14, and 15, in
the Peninsula, France, and Flanders, and was present at the battle of Waterloo, also at the
battles of Orthes and Toulouse, for which he has received the War Medal with two Clasps.
03 Colonel Le Blanc served in the Peninsula with the 4th Regt. and was present at the battles
of Corunna, Fuentcs d'Onor, Salamanca, and Vittoria, and at the sieges of Badajoz, and St. Sebas¬
tian (severely wouuded at the assault and capture), for which he has received the War Medal with
six Clasps. He served also the Waterloo campaign.
04 Colonel Leslie served with the 29th Regt. on the secret expedition under Sir Brent Spencer,
and subsequently in the Peninsula from Aug. 1808 to Dec. 1811, and again from Feb. 1813,
including the battles of Roleia and Vimiera, capture of Oporto, battle ot Talavera, first siege
of Bidajoz, and battle of Albuhera, besides skirmishes and affrays at outposts. At the battle
of Talavera he was severely wounded in the right leg, where the ball still remains. Ilehas
received the War Medal with four Clasps.
05 Colonel Linton served the campaign of 1815 with the 6th Dragoons, and was present at
the battle of Waterloo.
60 Colonel Lowe served with the IGth Lancers at the siege of Bhurtpore in 1825-6, and was
wounded (Medal).
07 Colonel Macadam landed in Portugal IstAug. 1808 with the 9th Regt., and served through¬
out the whole of the Peninsular war, including the battles of Roleia and Vimiera, passage of the
Douro, defence of Tarifa, affairs on the retreat from Burgos iu 1812, siege and storming of San
Sebastian (twice wounded, and commanded the false attack on the breach on the night of the .
29th of Aug.), passages of the Bidassoa (shot through the body) and Adour, several affairs con¬
nected with the investment of Bayonne, and also the repulse of the sortie, besides a variety of
minor affairs, and other desultory services during the Peninsular war. Proceeded to Canada
â– with his Regiment, and served the campaign of 1814. He has received the War Medal with
four Clasps for Roleia, Vimiera, Vittoria, and St. Sebastian.
08 Colonel Macpherson served in Hanover in 1805 and G ; at Buenos Ayros in 1807 ;
in Portugal and Spain from July 1808 to Jan. 1809, including the battles of Roleia and Vi¬
miera ; action at Lugo, and battle of Corunna. With the expedition to Walcheren, and sifge
of Flushing, where he was wounded ; thcPoninsukr campaigns from May to Dec. 1812, includ¬
ing the battle of Silamauca, where he was severely wounded. lie has received the AV.ar Medal
with four Clasps.
O'J Colonel Madox served tlie campaign of 1815 with the 5th Dragoons, aiid was present at
the battle of Waterloo.
70 ColiJiiel MonUland served with the 74th Highlanders in tlic Kaffir War in 1851 (Medal).
71 Lord James Murray served with the Scots loisilier Guards the Eastern campaign from 18lh
Oct. 1854 to the 28tli Jan. 1855, including the battles of Balaklava and Inkcriuan, siege of Se-
basfopol, and sortie of 26th October (Modal and Clasps, and 5th Class of the .Medjidie).
