75 War Services of the Lieutenant Colonels.
1 Lieut.Colonel Burer was employed in 1800 with an Austrian Corps d'Armee, and frequently
engaged before the enemy, especially at Kloster Eberacli. In 1801 he served the Esyptian cam¬
paign, and was engaged on the 17th and 21st Aug. in driving theenemy into Alexandria. In 1807
he accompanied Sir Ilarry Burrard as Aide-de-Camp on the expedition to the Baltic, and wa«
frequently enuaged before Copenhagen on outpost duties, and present at its siege and capture. In
1808 lie served in Portugal, and was present with the 71st at tlie battles of Roleia and Vimiera.
In 1809 he was employed as Deputy-Assistant-Adjutant-Gencral with the Walcheren expedition,
and was present at the siege and taking of Flushing and Ter Vere. In March 1811 he embarked
with two cora]ianies of the 71st for Portugal, and remained with the Regiment in the Peninsula
until Jan. 1813, and was present with the covering Division before Badajoz in 1811, and in April
1812 ; also at Arroyo de Molino and Almaraz. He has received the War Medal with three Clasps
for Egypt, Roleia, and Yimiera.
0 Lieut.Colonel Oates, during eight years active service in the West Indies, was frequently
engaged with the enemy, and twice severely wounded, viz. in the right side by » musket-ball at
Cote de Fer, and in the left ankle in an attack ni^ar Port au Prince. Served also five years in
the East Indii's and in Egypt, and crossed the Desert under Sir David Biird. With the expe¬
dition to Siiuth America in 1807. Subsequently throughout the whole of the Peninsular war,
including the batiks ot Tulavera (severely wounded on the head by the bursting of a shell),
Busaco, and Futntes d"Onor ; 2nd and 3rd sieges of Badujoz,—severely wounded at the storming
of Fort Pieurina: baMh^s of Vittorix, Nivelle, and Orthes,—severely wonu'led through the right
thigh. He has a Gold Medal for servici s in Egypt ; and the Silver War Medal with ten Clasps.
5 Lieut.Colonel Whtlan served in the American war with the Royal Newfoundland Fencibles.
7 Lieut.Co!on^l Nunth serv< d with the 7th Fusiliers, on the expedition against Copenhagen,
in 1807. With the 2rid Battalion of the 14th, on the expedition uider Sir David Baird, and was
in the retreat of Sir John Moore's army, and at the battle of Corunna, for which he has received
the War Medal with one Clasp. Accompanied the Battalion to WalcUeren, and was present at
the siege of Flushing.
8 Lieut.Colonel Spedding served in the Peninsula with the 4th Dragoons, and was present
at the battles of Talavera, Busaco, Alhuhera, and Salamanca (for which he has received the War
Medal with four Clasps); actions of Campo Mayor, Los Santos, and Usagre, besides otlier affairs.
9 Lieut.Colonel Coryton served at the passage of the Dardanelles in 1807, and has re¬
ceived the War Medal with one Clasp.
15 Lord A. C. FitzRoy served in the Eastern campaign of 1854, with the Coldstream Guards,
including the siege of Sebastopol, and battles of Balaklava and Inkerman—severely wounded
(Medal and Clasps, Sardinian Aledal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
16 Lieut.Colonel Goate's services:—Expedition to Germany in 1805 under Lord Cathcart;
storming the heights of Soril, siege of Fort Bourbon and capture of Martinique in 1809 ; Nepaul
war in 1815, and was engaged on the heights of Muckwanpore loth Dec.; capture of Hattrass
in 1816; Mahratta and Pindaree campaigns of 1817 and 18 ; Burmese war in 1825 and 20.
17 Lt.Colonel Elrington served in the Peninsula in 1811 and 1812 in a confidential and active
capacity under Lord Hill.
18 Lieut.Colonel Aubin served in the Peninsula with the 57th Rcgt. from Nov. 1811 to the end
of the war, including covering second siege of Badajoz, battles of Vittoria, the Pyrenees (25th,
28th, 30th, and 81 st July, and capture of tlie whole of the enemy's convoy intonded for the relief
of Pampeluna), Nivelle, >(ive,9th to 13th Dec. 1813, Hellette, Espalette, Garris, Orthes, Ayres,
Couchez (severely wounded through left side when in command of Light Company), besides
many other minor actions and skirmishes. Served subsequently in the American war. Also at
the capture of Paris, and with tlie Army of Occupation in France. He has received the War
Medal with five Clasps.
19 Lieut.Coloncl Clements served at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806; subse¬
quently on the expedition to South America ; the campaign of 1808-9 in Spain, and extra Aide-de-
Camp to Sir John Moore at the battle of Corunna. On the expedition to Walcheren in 1809 ; the
Peninsular campaigns from 1810to 1814, including Cavaresand Merina, Salamanca, Begar, Vittoria,
Valley of Bastan, and the Pyrenees. He has received tlie War Medal with three Clasps for Co¬
runna, Vittoria, and Pyrenees.
20 Lieut.Coloncl Willats served in the Peninsula from 1812 to the end of the war, including
the siege and storming of Cindad Rodrigo, siege and storming of Badajoz from 19th Jan. to 6th
April 1812 ; operations near and blockade of Bayonne. He has the War Medal with two Clasps.
22 Lieut.Colonel Handcock accompanied the expedition to Hanover in 1805 ; joined the army
in Sicily in 1806, and was employed with its various operations from 1800 to 1810 ; went with the
expedition to Naples, and was present at the capture of Ischia and Procida; returned to Sicily
and employed against the French army in 1811. Served in Spain during 1812 and 13, including
the battle of Castalla, siege of Tarragona, and affair of Villa Franca. Also the campaign of 1815,
and was severely wounded at Waterloo.
23 Lt.Colonel Fred. Wright served at the capture of Madeira in 1808; and the campaign in the
Peninsula under Sir Jolm Moore in 1808-9, and has tlie War Medal with one Clasp for Corunna.
24 Lieut.Colonel Barou served in the Peninsula from Jan. 1813 to the end of that war in 1814.
25 Lieut.Colonel Colebrooke served on the expedition to Walcheren in 1809.
26 Lieut.Colonel Bonamy served in the Peninsula with the 6th from Sept. 1813 to June 1814,
including the battles of Nivelle, Nive, 9th, 10th, and 11th Dec, and Orthes. He has received
the War Medal with two Clasps.
27 Lt.Col. Manners served in the Peninsula with the 59th from Aug. 1812 to May 1814, in¬
cluding the battle of Vittoria, siege and storming of San Sebastian in Aug. 1813, battle of the
