125 Lieut. Hewett served with the R. M. Battalion in the operations against and sur¬
render of the forts of Bomarsund in Aug. 1854. In 1855 he served in charge of a mortar
in tlie flotilla employed against Seba^topol during the siege, and also at the bombardment
and surrender of Kindourn (Medal and Clasp, and Knii;ht of the Legion of Honor).
126 Lieut. M'Artliur was at the attack and destruction of the piratical stockades, &c. at
Lagos, Western Africa, in Dec. 1851. Also at the bombardment of Odessa, 2-2iid April
1854 ; employed in making observations on the coast of Georgia, &c. ; in action with
the batteries, and expulsion of tlie Russian garrison from Redout Kaleh on 19th May ; aiid
at the shelling of a Russian camp in the bay of Katcha during the landing of the allied
armies on the 14th September ; also with the blockading force before Sebastopol during
the siege, until Dec. 1854 (Medal and Clasp).
127 Lieut. Roberts was in the action with the batteries and expulsion of the Russian
garrison from Redout Kaleh on the 19th May 1854. Served with the R. M. Brigade
during the siege of Sebastopol; was employed as Assistant-Engineer at Balaklava, and with
the Royal M. Artillery in the siege train before Sebastopol in 1854-55 (Medal and Clasp,
and Knight of the Legion of Honor).
128 Lieut. Shute served in the Royal Navy during the operations on the coast of Syria
(Turkish Medal and Naval War Medal with one Clasp). In 1854-55 he served with the
R. iM. Brigade in the Crimea, part of the time as Quartermaster of Brigade, during tlie
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and at the battle of Balaklava, and commanded a Company at
the capture of Kinbourn (Medal and Clasps); he was also at the bombardment of Odessa
22nd AprU 1854.
129 Lieuts. Seymour, C. S. Williams, Grove Morris, Higman, Mascall, and Walsh, served
with the Baltic expedition in 1855. Lt. Walsh served also with the expedition to the Baltic
until the declaration of pcac(^ in 1850.
129t Lieuts. Parke and Maskery served in the Black Sea in the latter part of 1855.
130 Lieut. Holland commanded a detachment employed on board H.M.S. Fury, and on
shore at the capture and destruction of 23 piratical vessels and 250 guns in Bias Bay
(China), on the 1st Oct. 1849 ; and in H.M.S. Medea at the destruction of 13 piratical
vessels and 120 guns at Kuto (China), on the 4th and 5th March 1850. Served in boats
of H.M.S. Hastings on the Irawaddy in the autumn of 1852, in action with Burmese
troops at Meet-tha on 30th September, and on shore at the capture and occupation of
Prome (Medal and Clasp).
131 Lieut. Macnamara served with the combined force before Sebastopol during the siege
and at its fall; was the senior officer of R. M. Artillery employed in the Sea of Asof in
.lune 1855, and was landed at Taganrog, Marioupol, and Ghirsk, to destroy Government
stores, &c. (mentioned in Dispatches); present at the bombardment and surrender of Kin¬
bourn (Medal and two Clasps).
132 Lieut. A. A. Douglas was at the bombardment of Odessa, 22nd April 1854. Served
in the breaching batteries before Sebastopol in all the bombardments from 1854, until its
fall, and was wounded 21st April (Medal and Clasps, and Knight of the Legion of Honor).
132t Lieuts. Usslier and Creighton served in the Baltic in the latter part of 1855
(Medal).
133 Lieuts. G. L. Blake and Swale were landed with detachments for the protection of
British subjects and property at Singapore, in May 1854. Destruction of Mandarin Junks
in Escape Creek, Canton River—mentioned in Dispatclies.
134 Lieut. Fraser served as Adjutant to the R. M. Battalion at the bombardment and
surrender of the forts of Bomarsund in Aug. 1854.
135 Lieuts. Bennett and Blanckley served during the summer of 1855, blockading the
Russian ports in the White Sea.
136 Lieut. W. P. Burton was in the boats at the attack on Gamla Carleby, in the Gulf of
Bothnia, on the 7th June 1854. Servoil with the Baltic expedition in 1855, and was at the
bombardment of Sweaborg, and employed in the Rocket boats on the nights of 9th and
10th August.
137 Lieut. Dalby served as Acting Quartermaster of the R. M. Brigade in the Crimea
during the siege of Sebastopol in 1854 (Medal and Clasp).
139 Lieut. Tholwall was at the destruction of 14 vessels and a vast quantity of stores at
Brahested on the .30th May 1854 ; at the destruction of 23 vessels, storehouses, &c. at
Uleaborg on the 1st and 2nd June; at the destruction of a vessel and 80 stacks of timber
at Toriiea on 8th June ; at tlie operations against Bomarsund, and in action with the forts
on the 15th August. In 1855 he was present during the siege of Sebastopol until its fall
(Medal and Clasp), and was in action with the outer forts on the 19th June ; engaged
shelling the batteries in Soujak Bay, and expelling the Russian garrison 12th March, and
in action with the batteries at Soujak Kale 13ih March; assisted at the landing of the
troops at Kinbouin, and at the bombardment of tliat fort.
140 Lieut. Reed served in the Kaffir war of 1851-52 (Medal). Served with the Baltic
expedition in 1855, and in action with six Russian gunboats off Cronstadt on )5th August.
141 Lieuts. Henry, Meheux, Harington, Delacombe, Short, Colwell, and Gladstone
served with the Baltic expedition in 1854. Lieut. Gladstone served also in the Black Sea
in the latter part of 1855 and until the declaration of peace in 1856.
