War Services of the Officers of the Royal Artillery. ;j52
(wounded), the Artillery of which last place he commanded. He served in the batteries at
the siege of San Sebastian; was present in the battles of Barrosa (wounded), Vittoria, the
Pyrenees, Orthes, Toulouse, Quatre Bras, and Waterloo (severely wounded), actions on
the retreat from Burgos, at San Munos, near Salamanca, Helette, St. Palais, Sauveterrc,
Aire, and Tarbes. He commanded a Division, as second in command, of the expedition
under Major-General D'Aguilar, which assaulted and took the Forts of the Bocca Tigris
in the Canton River, those of the Staked Barrier, and of the city of Canton, spiking 879
pieces of heavy ordnance. He has received the Silver War Medal with six Clasps. Was on
board the flag-ship S;vY«n«irt during the naval action of the allied fleets with the defences
of Sebastopol on the 17th Oct. 1854, and directed the rockets fired from that ship against
the forts and city : has received the Crimean War Medal with Clasp for Sebastopol.
48 Colonel England served the expedition to the Weser in 1805 and 6; to the Cape of Good
Hope and South America in 1806 and 7; campaign of 1813 in the Peninsula, including the
battle of Vittoria and siege of San Sebastian, for which he has received the Silver War Alcdal
with two Clasps.
53 Colonel Hardinge served in the Peninsula from Aug. 1812, to the end of the war in
1814, including the battle of Vittoria, siege of San Sebastian, battles of Orthes and Toulouse,
affairs at Osma, Tolosa, Bidassoa, and Tarbes. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was
present at Ligny and Quatre Bras. He lias received the Silver War Medal with four Clasps.
54 Major-General Gordon Higgins commanded the Royal Artillery hi the Syrian cam¬
paign from August 1840 to the evacuation of that country in Dec. 1841 (Medal), and was
present at the bombardment and capture of Bcyrout and of St. Jean d'.icre.
57 Colonel Anderson's services:—Siege and capture of Flushing, and the subsequent
operations in 1809; Bombardment of Antwerp, also previous and subsequent operations
in 1813 and 1814; campaign of 1815, including the battle of Waterloo, and captures of
Cambray and Paris.
58 Colonel Armstrong served at Walcheren in 1809; and in Canada from May 1810
to July 1815, including the capture of a detachment on river Raisin, the cutting out of an
enemy's vessel when in command of a gun-boat at Prescott, at Fort Erie during a cannonade
of 17 hours ; at the loss of Fort George, actions at Stoney Creek, and Black Rock, invest¬
ment of Fort George, capture of Fort Niagara, Black Rock, and town of Buffalo, action at
Streets Creek, and Chippawa, and at the siege of Fort Erie under an almost constant fire
for about five weeks. Slightly wounded at Fort George, 27th May 1813.
61 Colonel Fras. Warde was present at the defence of Cadiz and at the battle of Waterloo.
_ C2 Colonel Ingilby served in the Peninsula from July 1810 to Jan. 1813, including the
sieges of Ciudad Rodrigo, Forts of Salamanca (wounded), and Burgos; and the battles
of Busaco, Fuentes d'Onor, and Salamanca. Served also the campaign of 1815, and was
present at the battle of Waterloo. He has received the Silver War Medal with four Clasps.
64 Colonel Pester was present at the defence of Cadiz, and at the battle of Barrosa, where
he was severely wounded. He has received the Silver War Medal with one Clasp for Barrosa.
65 Colonel Bloomfield served in the Peninsula and France, from March 1813 to June
1814,ineluding the battle of Vittoria,siege of San Sebastian, crossing the Bidassoa, and battles
of the Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse. Served also the campaign of 1815, including
the battle of Waterloo. He has received the Silver War Medal with six Clasps.
G6 Colonel Palliser served in the Peninsula and France, from November 1812 to May
1814, including the siege of San Sebastian, and battles of Vittoria, Orthes, and Toulouse, for
which he has received the Silver War Medal with four Clasps. Served subsenuentlv in the
American war, including the battles of Bladensburg and Baltimore, capture of Washington,
and operations before New Orleans. With the army of occupation in France from June
1815 to November 1818, and present at the capture of Paris.
68 Colonel Cuppage served in the Peninsula and France, from February to August 1814,
I and was present at the repulse of the sortie from Bayonne. Served also the campaign of
1815, including the battle of Waterloo.
■ 69 Colonel Griffin served before Genoa in 1814.
I 70 Sir Richard Dacres served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affairs cf
Bulganac and M'Kenzie's Farm, and hattles of Aima, Balaklava, and Inkerman (horse
1; killed): comiminded the Royal Artillery at the repulse of the Russians in the sortie from
bebastopol on the 26th October ; succeeded to the command of the Roval Artillery at
the siege and fall of Sebastojiol after Br.-General Strangways was killed at I;ikerman on
the oth Nov. 1854 (Medal and Clasps, KGB., Commander of the Legion of Honor, and
Commander 1 st CIa«s Military Order of Savoy),
^'l 5;°'""*^' Lake commanded the Artillery of the Light Division in the Eastern campaign
Al "i'^^' '"eluding the aflairs of Bulganae and JI'Kenzie's Farm, and tlie battles of
Alma (horse shot), Balaklava, and Inkermaii (horse shot), and siege of .Sebastopol (Medal
and four Clusps, and Officer of the Legion of Honor).
72 Major-Gen. Dupuis served on the north coast of Spain in 1836, 7, and 8, in co-opera-
^n with the Spanisli army, including the field actions of the 10th, 12th, 14th, and 16th
^arch, and the action of Hcniani, on the 14th May 1837, besides various other minor
■ttairs. Served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava,
nd Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Ci>'., Commander of the
,egion of Honor, and Sardinian Medal).
73 Sir William Fenwick Williams commanded the Turkish army at the defence of ICars,
