Expedition in 1865, and was present at the capture of Desvangiri (Medal with Clasp).
-'* Major General H. 0. Smith served in the actions against the hill tribes on the Peshavvur frontier in 1854-55. in¬
cluding t,he capture and destruction of Dhnb and Sardine in August 1S54 ; expedition against the Busee Khcil Afree-
dees in Dec. 1854 and March 1855 (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served as Interpreter to the iqth
Foot with the force under Brigadier Kelly on the Nepaul frontier in 1859.
"'' Major General W. G. M. Striclcland served in the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present at the d'lfcnce of
Mnrtaban, and recapture oCBilling (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
-"I" .Major General G. C. Rowcrjft served with the force against the Hussunzaies on the Hazara frontier in 1852
(Medal with Clasp). Served in the Indian Muii..y campaign in 1857 at Beshawur (Modal). Commanded the
Khelat-i-Ghilzie Regiment with the force on the Kusufzaie frontier and against the fanatics of Sittana in April and
May 1858.
-"' Major General P. "Wheeler served in the Indian Mutir.v campaign in 1857-59, and was present at the capture
of Bareilly (Medal).
-"* Major General H. H. Stan.sfeld served with the loth Foot throughoiit the Indian mutiny, and was present at
the siege of Lucknow and several skirmishes in Oude, Azimghur, and the Jugdespore Jungles (Medal wiih Clasp).
-'» Major General T. M. Shelley was present at the outbreak of the mutiny at Meerut on the loth May 1857. Ho
served afterwards in several actions from the nth August to the 29th September before Delhi, and at the assault
and captureofthe city—wo'iuded (Medal with Clasp).
-'" Major General P. C. Dalmahoy served in the Indian mutiuy campaigns of 1857-59, and was present at the
siege and capture of Delhi, including most of tha engagements before its walls pri'vious to the capture. Served
with Brigadier Showers Force in the Delhi district. Present \i-ith the Huracerpore Police Battalion in several
encounters with the rebels in Bundlecund in 1859-60, and on many occi.sious uuri-'g the campaign commanded an
independent Column of .Military Police (rectived the thanks of Government for services in Delhi and Bundlecand.

--1 Major Geneial T. R. Nimmo served in the Afghan war of 1878-Eo, and took part in the defence of Candahnr
(mentioned in tlespatches) including the sortie of JJcii Khojah—severely wounded (mentionedin despatches, Medal).
-=- Major General H. D. Cloete served during the second Burmese war, and was present at the storm and capture
of Pegu 21st November 1852, when he was dangerously wounded by a musket-ball in tlio chest, was also constantly
engaged with the enemy during the ascent of the Pegu river in the leading steamer (Medal with Clas]) for I'egu).
'"'■' Major General \V. Gordon served in Burmah against the rebel Mong Gong Gee m 1854. Had charge of the
entrenchments at Allahabad, and command of outposts during the mutinies in 1857 (Medal). Accompanied ohe
KxiJeditionary Force to China, and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts and the surrender of Pekin
(Medal with two Clasps).

'"'' Major General H. V. Mathias served throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Was 2nd in Command of
the Rewah and Nagode Rajah's Troops at the opening of the Deccan road in 1857-58, during which operations
the forts of Kunchunpore Joorah, Myhore city and fort, Jokye, Kunnwarrah, Bejeeragooghur, and 42 pieces of
ordnance were taken (slightly wounded). Was 2ud in Command of the Rewali Contingent at the storming of
the enemy's position on the Punwarrah Heights, taking all the enemy's guns, killing their leaders, and entirely
dispersing their force (Medal with Clasp).
"^ Major General J. W. Orr served in Burmah 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pesn). Also with Major General
Whitlock's B'orce in suppression of the mutiuy in Bengal in 1858-59, and was present at the surrender of the rebel
Narrain Rao at Kirvvee; was left in charge of the camp on the i6th December 1858, when the force under
Brigadier MacDuH moved out to attack the rebels at Girwassah (Medal with Clasp).
=*»' Major General A. C. Hay served with the Saugor Field Division, and was present at Sheegum and Kobrai;
commanded a company with the advanced guard at the battle of Bauda; was with Captain llilliard's detachment
at Tolakunjarum (Medal with Clasp).
=^«3 Major General Melmoth A. Douglas Orchard served during the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58, and was present
in the actions of the 5th July and 10th October 1857 at Agra (Medal).
2'" Major General F. Gadsdenserved in Arracan during the Burmese war and in the Sumbulpoor districts during
the disturbances in 1857-58.
"'1 Major General F. E. A. Chamior served as Aide de Camp to General Outram with Havelock's Force, and
was present at the actions of Mungarwar and Alumbagh, relief of Lucknow, and subso.iuent defence of the
Residency until the relief of its Garrison by Lord Clyde; also present at tne final capture of Luckuow (men-
aoned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Major, and a year's service).
'"'- Colonel U. P. Close served as second m commandof the 5th Goorkha Regiment with aforco under the com¬
mand of Brigadier GeneralChamberlain for the subjugation of the Mahsood Wuzeer tribe in i85o, including actions of
Palloseen and Burrura Tungee. Served as 2Ud in uommand, and afterwards as commandant of the 5th Goorkhas
(luring the whole ofthe LJiniicyla campaign in 1853 (ooutusion, and mentioned in despatches). Commanded the 5th
Goorkhns during the operations of a force under Brigadier Wilde in Januarv 1864, for the subjugation of the Kajah
of Guudui), in Kusofzai. Commanded the 5tli Gojrkuas during the several offensive and defeu.sive operations of a
force under Colouel Rothney in Agrore, wdiich resulted in the total defeat of the enemy cm the 12th August iS-SS.
Commanded the 5th Goorkhas during the ascent and descent of the Black Mountain by "a force under Major General
Wilde ill October 1868, Commanded the 5i.h Goorkhas during the secret expedition of a force under Colonel Roth-
iiey against the Akhazai tribe on the Black Mountain on the 7th October 1869. Commanded the 1st Sikh Infantry
Uiiring the operations in connection with the construction of military posts at Girnce and Kote Kirghoe on the Dera
Ismael Khan frontier by a force under Major G. T. Kennedy (India Medal with tivo Clas])sj.
-'■'3 Colonel H. G. Thomson was on held service with a detachment of the 35th Foot against Hill Kareons near
Shuay-gheen from loth April to ist May 1856, and was nresent at the action at Palipoon.
•"■" Colonel R. D. Campbell served throughout tlio Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Served throughout the Indian
mutiny campaign, against the mutineers near Benares on the 6th July 1857 (eh-.irger severely wounded),
also at Azimghur, andwith the Nepaulese Contingent in the Goruckpore district (Medal). Served a'so throughout
the Bhootan campaign of 1864-65, and was present at the storming and capture of Dahiuicott,, und of Ba.la and
Kagoh stockades (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 with the Kliyber Line Force (Uedai).
Also served with the Mahsood Wuzeeree Expedition in i38i.
'-'■''■• Colouel A. T. Moore served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, and was present at the assault
and capture of Reslure, surrender of Biishire, at Borazjoon, and at the action of Kliooshai;—horse killed (Victoria
Cross, and Medal >viih Clasp); receiveil the i'C under the following circumstances;—"On the occasion of an
attack on the enemy on the 8th I'ebruary 1857, led by Lieutenant Colonel Forbes, Cli.. Lieutenant Moore, the
Adjutant oi the regiment, was, perhaps, the first of all by a horse's length. His liorse leaped into the s(juare,
and instantly fell dead, crushing down his rider, and breaking his sword as he fell amid the broken ranks of the
eaemy. Lieutenant Moore speediiy extricated himself, and attempted with his broken sword to force his way
through the press; but he would assuredly have lost his life had not the gallant young Lieutenant Malcolmson,
observing his peril, fought his way to his dismounted comrade through a crowd of enemies to his rescue, and, giving
him his stirrup, safely carried him througli everj'thing out of the throng. The thoughtfulness for others, cool
determination, devoted courage and ready activity shown in extreme danger by this young utticer. Lieutenant
Malcolmson, appear to have been most admirable, and to be worthy of the highest honour." Served with the

the camp was suddenly attacked) to the taking of Gwalior, and pursuit and defeat of tlie rebels by Sir Robert,
Napier; served against the rebels in the Jhaiisi and Jaloun districts during the moiisooii of 1858; commaiidjd a
troop of 3rd Cavalry which pursued and charged the rebels at Mow and Mahoni, capturing their two g.ms i-.iedul
with ClaspJ.
