in 1S77-78 as Brigadier General Commanding the Punjab Frontier Force and the Kohat Column (mentioned in de¬
spatches, received the thanks of the Government of India, KCB., and Clasp).
"» General W. D. Morgan served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of V.aranuggur
(Medal). Served also in the Indian mutiny campaigns of 1857-59, as Brigade Major with the Sarun and Gorruckpore
Field Forces, and was present atthe actions of Sohunpore, Phoolpore, Betwa, Amorah, Doomoeragunge, Toolseporc,
and Siewa (several times mentioned in despatches, thanked by the Governor General, Medal, and Brevet of Major).
Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India with the Eusofzie Expedition including the opera¬
tions in the Umbeyla Pass, the storming of the Conical Hill, and the destruction of Lalloo (Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
Medal with Clasp). Also served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1865-66 (Clasp).
I"' General T." Wright served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the actions of Kam-
nuggur, Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Served as Assistant Adjutant General
and'chief Staff Ofiicer with the force under Sir Sydney Cotton in the Eusofzie expedition of 1858 (mentioned in
despatches. Medal with Clasp). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign in command of the 2ud Sikh Cavalry in
Central India and defeated a body of the enemy in Bundlecund (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Served as
Assistant Adjutant General throughout the Umbeyla campaign of 1863 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of
Lt.Colonel, and Clasp) ; and in the same capacity with the field force under Major General Tytler during the
operations of 1865-66 in Bhootan (Clasp).
II" General G. G. Anderson served in the Punjaub campaign in 1848-49, and was present at the battles of Chillian¬
wallah and Goojerat—wounded, and horse shot (Medal with two Clasps).
I'l General T. R. Snow served throughout the campaign of 1843 in Sind under Sir Charles Napier, and was
present at the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad—horse shot (Medal). Served under Sir J. Lawrence against
the tribes in the Googaria district in 1S57, and on the 30th September he was wounded and his horse received a
sabre-cut, and on the i6th October he was severely wounded (Brevet of Major, and Medal).
"2 General C. Dumlileton was present at the battle of Maharajpor'e 19th December 1843 (Bronze Star).
Served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857 (Medal).
"^ General G. R. S. Burrows served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and commanded.the forces in the engage¬
ments on the Helmund and at Maiwand (two horses killed); took part in tbe defence of Candahar (mentioned in
despatches), including the sortie of Deh Khojah (mentioned in despatches), and commanded a Brigade at the
battle of Candahar (Medal with Clasp).
"3 General G. C. Hatch served as Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Army under Lord Clyde at the relief
of Lucknow in 1857 and in the subsequent operations at Cawnpore (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
1"' General A. H. Ternan served in Bundlecund in 1842-43, and was several limes engaged with the rebels.
Served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, including the action of Aliwal (Medal). Served in the Punjaub cam¬
paign in 1849 (Medal, mentioned in despatch). Served in the Indian mutiny campaigns of 1857-5S, including
numerous expeditions against the rebels in the Niirsingpore, Saugor, and Jubbulpore districts. Commanded
a party of the 3rd Irregular Cavalry in an attack on a body of rebels in the Sangor district (horse killed,
thanked by the Lt.Governor of the Central Provinces). Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir
Hugh Rose as Deputy Commissioner of Jaloun (Medal with Clasp), and was present at the forcing of the Muddun-
pore Pass, the action of the Betwah, siege and capture of Jhansi, action of Konch, and taking of Kalpee
(mentioned in despatch). Served as Aide de Camp to Brigadier MacDuEf at the action of Sahao (mentioned in
despatches). Mentioned in Governor General's minute ot 2iul ,Iuly 1359. The gracious approbation of Her
Majesty was conveyed to him by letter fi-om the Secretary of State for India, dated nth June 1861, wherein his
" great vigour and judgment " as Deputy Commissioner of Jaloun, and his " courage and ability," displayed in
several engagements with the rebels, are described as having " tended greatly to the success of those operations."
'" Sir C. C. G. F.,oss served with the Expeditionar.y Force against the Hill Tribes in the vicinity of Peshawnr in
1851-52, and with that of 1853, and was present at the action of Skakote (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout
the In lian mutiny, present at the defence of Kumahon, commanded the 66th Goorkha Regiment in the action of
Churppoorah, and in the subsequent campaign (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal). Comaianded
the Ferozepore Regiment throughout the Umbeyla campaign in 1863 (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Clasp). Served in the
Jowaki Afreedee Expedition in 1878 (mentioned in despatches, KCB., and Clasp).

1*" Lieut.General J. A. S. Faulknor served with the Field Force in Sind and Atfghanistan from 1841 to 1844, and
was present at the defeat and capture of Meer Shah Mahomed at Peer Arree. He was also ijresent at the siege
and capture of Dwarka in November 1859.
'^' Lieut.General J. G. Cookson served as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General of the Bellarj' Field Force
under Brigadier Spotliswoodc from the 8tli November 1S58 to the 21st January 1859.
'-' Lieut.General P. G. Scot served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 and was present at the bali.!e of Ferozeshah
(Medal). Was [iresent when the Wing of the i:!th Bengal Native infantry mutinied at Nowgong in June 1857.
Served afterwards in the suppression of the Indian mutiny and was present with Havelock's Force at the actions of
Mungarvvar and Alnmbagh, and entry into Lucknow; defence of the Residency from 25th Sejitember to 22nd
November 1857 until relieved liy Lord Clyde; occupation of the Alunibagh and repulse of all the attacks I'rom
November 1857 to the 28th February 1858; siege of Lucknow from ist to j6th March, action at Koorsee, attack
on Rooya,actions of Allygunge and Bareilly (mentioned in despatches,Medal with two Clasps, and a year's service).
'-' Lieut.General H. A. Cooltburn marched ironi Gwalior on the 13th May 1857 towards Allyghvir in command o( a
Squadron of the ist Cavalry of the Gwalior Contingent, of which Regiment he was Adjutant, and served in the Agra,
Hattras, and AUyghur districts of the Doab, under the Orders of the Lt.Governor of the N. W. Provinces, until the
2nd Jiiiy following. On the 22nd May near Hattras with only about fifty men he defeated and disiicrsed a body of
nearly 500 rebels, on which occasion his charger was slightly wounded. On the following day he rescued twenty
persons from the town of Sasuee. On the 31st May he defeated a body of rebels near Hattras, on which occasion
the ollicial report from Captain Alexander to the Lt.Governor of the N. W. Provinces stated :—"Lieutenant Cock-
burn dismounted about twenty men and stormed the village. Every praise is due to Lieut. Cockburn, a most gallant
soldier, who had some narrow escapes " (his helmet and sword were struck by bullets). " He killed four men with
his own hand." On the 5th June he defeated a large body of rebels and saved the town of Lakhnooa, his charger
being twice wounded. On the 5 th July 1857 atthe battle of Agra he wasveryseverely wounded liy a cams on-shot and
his charger was killed nnder him. He was thanked on four occasions by the Lieut.Governor ofihe N.W, Provinces
and mentioned in his despirtches as being "marked by his forward activitj'and courage " and " as a liashiug,
energetic Cavalry OfHcer " (Medal).
''-' Lieut.tieneral W. M. Cale was present at the battle of Maharajpore 29th December 1843 (Bronze Star). Also
throughoutthe Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including tne actions of Sadoolanore, Chillianwallah, and Goojerat,
and pursuit of the Sikhs and Atfghans (Medal with two Clasps'. Served during the Indian Mutiny campaign in
1857-58, and was present in the engagement at Meangunge, the siege and capture of Lucknow, f.iid the action ot
Rooyah—severely wounded (Medal with Clasp, .and Victoria Cross): received the TBT "for 'pcaring away, under
a heavy fire, with the assistance of Privates Thompson, Crowie, Spenco, and Cook, the body of Lieutenant
Willoughby, lying near the ditch of the Fort of Ruhya, and for running to the rescue of Private Spence, who had
been severelv wounded in the attempt. Date of act of bravery, istli April 1858."
''-^ Sir John Watson served with the Bombay Column in the Piinjanb campaign at the siege and surrender of
Mooltan and the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Bozdar campaign and forcing of the Kahn Bund Pass
under Brigadier General Chamberlain in 1857 (Medal with Clasji). Indian mutiny campaign, inclnding the siege
of Delhi, relief and siege of Lucknow, battles of iiolundshuhur, Allyghur, Agra, Cawnpore and various other en¬
gagements of the period; slightly wounded on three occasions (Medal with three Clasps, CB., Victoria Cross, and
Brevet of Lt.Colonel): received the UiC under the following circumstances: "'Lieutenant vVatson, on the
14th November 1857, with his own squadron (of the ist Punjab Cavalry), and that under Captain, then Lieu¬
tenant, Probyn, came upon a body of the rebel cavalry. The ressaldar in command of them—a fine specmien
of the Hindustani Mussulinnn—and backed up by some half-dozen equally brave men, rode ont to the front.
