Medal). Served in suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, including the actions before Cawnpore on the 26i:l<i
27th and 29th Nov. and subsequent operations to 6th Dec. 1857, affair at Bhognapore on 4th February, siege ot
lucknow in March 1858, siege and fall of Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India). Commanded the 265h
Cameronians in the Abyssinian oampaign in 186S (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
'8^ Lt.General Wombwell served with the 46th Regt. at the siege of Sebastopol in 1854-55 (Medal vfith Clasp, Brevei
Ol Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
■*^ Lt.General C. T. Stewart served in the Punjaab campaign of 1848-49, including the siege of Mooltan, arxl
battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Also in the Indian mutiny campaign, including the battle of Budlc-
keserai, and throughout the siege of Delhi (Medal with Cliis])).
'*^ Major General A. J. H. Elliot served five years in India, the last two on Lord Hardinge's staff, prior tf>
entering the Royal Armj-, and was present with his regiment, the 8th Bengal Cavalry, at the battle of Panniar
(Bronze Star); also in the Sutlej campaign, including the battles of Ferozeshali anil Sobraon (Medal). Served
in the Crimean campaign from Oct. 1854 to ist April 1855 as Aide de Camp to General Scarlett, including the battle-
of Balaklava (severely wounded) and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Major, Commander of
the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).

'*' Lt.General H. P. Williams served with the ist Battalion 60th Rifles during the second siege operations at
Mooltan, including the siege and storm of the town, and capture of the citadel; was afterwards present at the
battle of Goojerat, the jjursuit of the Sikh Army, and the expulsion of the Affghans beyond the Khyber Paas
(Medal with two Clasps). Also present during tlu^ operations in the Euzofz.ve Country, and capture of the insur¬
gent villages on the nth and 14th Dec. 1849 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign of 1857 again.'^t the muti¬
neers in India, including the actions on the Hindun of the 30th and 31st May, battle of Budlee ke Semi and takin'C
of the Heights before Delhi on 8th June, subsei|uent siege operations to i6th August—severe gun-shot wound antt
-left thigh-bone broken on 19th June (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
ISO Lt.General Thomson was on board the Transport Suruh Sunda with the Head Quarters of the S4th Regiment
on passage to India when that vessel was pariiall,v destroyed by fire at seaon the nth November 1857. The cos-
duct of the Regiment on this occasion was the subject of a GoLcral Order from the Horse Guards. S«i-ved during
tto Indian Mutiny, including Lord Clyde's campaign in Oude in 1858-59 (Medal).
^''1 Lt.General C. O. Creagh-0.sborn'e served with a party of Volunteers attached to the Scinde Camel Corps
dnring Sir Charles Napier's campaign of 1845 againstthe mountain and desert tribes on the right bank of the Indus,
Served on the Head Quarters Stalfof the Azimglmr Field Force during the campaign of 1858 in the N.W. Provinces
of India, and was present at the action of 6th April before Azimghur and in the intronchment of that place from
6th to 14th April, when besieged by Koer Sing's Force. Also at the a.ssault of Jugdespore, actions at J elowra iitb
and 2qth May, Metahi 24th May, and skirmishes in the Jugdespore Jungles (mentioned in despatches, Medal, and
Brevet of Major). Commanded ist Battalion 6th Regiment during the Hazara campaign of j868, including the
expedition against the Black Mountain tribes on the Punjaub Frontier (mentioned iu despatehes. Medal with
Clasp, and CB.).
^'^ Lt.Geueral A. C. Cooko served in the Crimea from Jul.y 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (MedftB
with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjide, and Turkish Medal).
^''■' Lt General H. Wray was sent on special service to Japan in Dec. 1863 as Commanding Royal Engineer undei-
the Naval Commander in Chief Vice-Admiral Sir Augustus Kuper. Was sent by him in August 1864 to reconnoitre
the batteries in Simonosaki Straits, and was afterwards present with a Detachment of Royal Engineers in the action
of the 5th Sept. 1864 and subsequent operations (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major).
'" Lt.General A. H. Cobbe served as a Volunteer with the Field Force throughout the siege and capture of
Delhi in 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 187S-79 in command of the 1st Infantrj' Brigade
JCoorum Field Force, and was present at the capture of the Peiwar Kotal—severely wounded (mentioned iik
despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
'-^ Lt.General J. W. Laurie served with the 4th Regiment in the Crimean campaign from the 8th November 185.1
until the evacuation o.' the Crimea, and was iircsent at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, including the repulse of
the two sorties on the advanced trenches in front of the Ovens on the 22nd and 23r(l November (mentioned in
despatches), attiicks on the Barrack Battery on the i8th June and on the Redan on the 8th September 1855 ; he was
wounded in December 1854, and again in March 1855 (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of tho
Modjidie). Served in India during the mutin.y, and was Staff Officer of a Field Force in the Rewah Kantee districl
in i860. Served during the rebellion in the North West Territories of Canada in 1885 as Second in Command
fr im the ist April till the close of the rebellion, aiul as Commandant of the Base and Lines of Communication i:>

'■o l.t.General R. T. Glyn served with the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from 2nd Sept. 1855 (Medal with Clasp
for Sebastopol, and Turkish Medal). Served with the 24th Regiment during the Indian Mutin.y of 1857-58 (Medal).
Served in the Kafir war of 1877-78, first in command of the Eastern frontier, and aftcrw.irils iu command of the
forces in the Transkei, being present in the engagement at Newmai'ke (several times mentioned in despatches,
CB.). Served in the Zulu war of 1879, fii'st in ccnnmaud of No. 3 Column, being present at the attack on Sirayo's
Krantz and the operations at Matyaiii's stronghold, and subsetiuently, as Colonel on the Stall', as Commander of
tl;e Forces in the Transkei, &c. ; afterwards in command of the Inlhntry Brigade, 2nd Division, being present in
tlic engagement at Uhmdi (mentioned in despatches, CJIIG., Medal with Clasp).
''J' Lt.General G. H. I'age served in the 58th llegt. in New Zealand (Medal), and was present at the storming of
Kawiti's Pah nth Jan. 1846, and he defeated the Natives in a night attack on his post on the River Hutt, i6th May-
following. Present at the skirmish at Taitai 16th June, commanded a Detachment at the capture of Chief Te Bauperah.*
and at the skii-mish in Horokiwi Valley; jiresent at the attack and repulse of the enemy on the settlements and
stjckades of Wanganui 19th May; and in the action of the 19th July 1S47 he directed a charge which repulsed
the enemy. Served with the 41'st Regt. in the Crimea, subsequently to the fall of Sobastopol, from the 6th Dec.
1855, until the withdrawal of the Army.
'»» Lt.General (>. E. Baynes served with the Sth Rogt. at the siege of Delhi in 1857, including repulse of sorties
on thegth 14th i8th and 23rd July, and commanded the stormhig party of the 2nd Column of attack at the assault
of the city (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
'■'■' Major General W. Cooper served with the i8tli Ro.^-al Irish throughout the campaign of 1852-53 in Burmah, in¬
cluding the capture of Rangoon, cajiture of Prome, ami other minor at'iirs (.Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Served as
Assistant Quarter Master General to the expeditionary force on the Eusufzai Frontier under Sir 8. Cotton iu 1S5S,
a id in the same capaciry with the expeditionary force in the Wuzeori country under Brigadier General (;iiamber-
lam in Dee. 1855 (Medal with Clasp).
