' Sir Charles Gough served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including tne action of Ram'
nuggur, passage of the Gheaab, and battles of Sadoolapore, Uhillianwalla, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps),
Served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 ; with the Guide Corps at siege and capture of Delhi; commander
Guide Cavalry in affairs at khurkonda on 15th, and Rhotuck on 17th and i3th August; engagedin the cavalry affair
in rear of the Camp on 11 th September. Served with Brigadier Showers' Column in the Delhi and Jhujjur districts.
Was engaged in the action of Narnoleon the i6th November. Served with Hodson's Horse at the actions of Gun-
geeree, Putteallee, Mynpoorie, and Shumshabad (wounded). Commanded a Squadron of Hodson's Horse at the
action of Meangunge; present throughout the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with two Clasps, Victoria
Cross, and Brevet of Major): was awarded the JJiS—"i.For gallantry in an affair at Khurkowdah, near
Rhotuck, on the 15th August 1857, in which he saved his brother, who was wounded, and killed two of the
enemy. 2. For gallantry on the i8th August when he led a Troop of the Guide Cavalry in a charge, and cut
down two of the enemy's sowars, with one of whom he had a desperate hand-to-hand combat. 3. For gallantry
on the 27th January 1858, at Shumshabad, where, in a charge, he attacked one of the enemy's leaders, and
pierced him with his sword, which was carried out of his hand in the melee. He defended himself with his
revolver, and shot two of the enemy. 4. For gallantry on the 23rd February 1858, at Meangunge, where he
came to the assistance of Brevet Major O. H. St. Gecige Anson, and killed his opponent, immediatel.y afterwards
cutting down another of the enemy in the same gallant manner." Served with the Bhootan E.\pedition in 1864-65
(Medai with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid,
and in the engagement at Fnttehabad (mentioned in despatches); commanded a force of all arms which proceeded
from Gundamuck to the relief of Ciibul in December 1879 (mentioned in despatches), and commanded a brigade in
the engagement at Saidabad (mentioned in despatches, KCB., Medal with two Clasps).
^ Lieut.General S. DeB.Edwardes served in the MaheeKanta Field Force in i858,in pursuit of Tantia Topee,present
at the action of Anoria. Served as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General in the Abyssinian E.xpedition in 1S6S,
present at the action of Arogee and at the assault and capture of Magdala (Medal). Served in the Afghan war in
1879-80 asChief Director of Transport on the line between Sukkur andQuetta, took part in the defence of Candahar,
and was present at the battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasj)).
^ Lieut. General Sale Hill served in defence ofKumaon Hills and Rohilcund against the rebels in 1857-58; piesent
at Chapoorah ; with Brigadier Troup's Column during the campaign in Oude and present at the actions of Pui'gaon
and Russoolpore, attack and capture of Fort Mittowlee, and action of Biswah (Medal). Served in the Bhootan
campaign of 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp); in the Huzara campaign of 1868 including the operations on the " Black
Mountain" (Clasp); and in the operations in the Malay Peninsula 1111875-76 (mentioned in despatches. Clasp).
Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 on the Khyber line of communications (mentioned in desi:atches, CB., and
Medal). Commanded the expedition sent against the Akhas in 1883-84 (received the thanks of the Commander in
Chief and of Government).
* Major General E. J. M'Nair served in the Indian mutiny campaigns of 1857-59, ^^^ ^^s present at the assault
and capture of Delhi as well as at the battle of Budlee-ke-Seraiand all the operations throughout the siege; served
afterwards in the Delhi district with the column under Brigadier Showers; also in the Bekaneer district in 1859
(Medal with Clasp). Served in the Hazara campaign in 1868, and was present in the operations on the Black
Mountain (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
'^ Major General P. Story served in Brigadier Troup's (.iolumn during the campaign in Oude in i858-59,and was pre¬
sent at the actions of Pusgaon and Russoolpore, attack and capture of Fort Mittowlee, and action of Biswah (Medal).
Served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1865-66 (Medal with Clasp), and during the oi)erations in the Malay
Peninsula in 1875-76 (Clasp). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the ThuU Chotiali Field Force, and after¬
wards in Northern Afghanistan (Medal).
° Major General F. S. Iredell served in the Afghan war in 1879-So, and took part in the march to Candahar with
the force under Major General Phayre (Medal).
' MajorGeneral E. Venour served as a volunteer with the loth Foot against the Dinapore mutineersat Arrah in
1857 and was severely wounded (Medal). Served with the right column Doar Field Force in 1865-66, and was pre¬
sent at the capture of Buxar and the Bala Pass and Tazagaon Stockades (received the thanks of the Commander
in Chief, Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 (Medal).
" MajorGeneral "W. Rowlandson served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the
actions of Seerowlieund Ghurra, and reoccupation of Humeerpore (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Burmese-
Expedition in 1B85-86, and was present in the attf.ck on the batteries on the i6lh November in command of a
Column (Medal with Clasp).
' Major General \V. R. Martin served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58; was present with the 38th Foot
at the assault and capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, and affairs of Barree and Nuggur
(Medal with Clasp). Served with the 19th Punjaub Infantry in China the campaign of i860 (Medal). Served
with the 3rd Punjaub Infantry throughout the Sittana Expedition in 1863 (Medal with Clasp); and afterwards
with General Wilde's Column against the Judon Tribes.
"> Major General J. M. Stewart served in the Jynteah Hills during the rebellion of 1S62-63, and was present
at the assault and capture of the stockades of Ookis, Mugbarai, and Oomkrong. Served in the Abyssinian war in
1867-68 (Medal).
i» Major General M. G. Clerk served in the Indian mutiny campaigns in 1857-59, ii^i '"'as present with Eave-
lock's force at the actions of Mungarwar and Alumbagh, remaining in theAlurabagh with the force under
Lt.Colonel M'Intyre, and acted n,i Assistant Field Engineer; afterwards present at the capture of Lucknow
(Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
'5 Major General H. H. C. G.Warrington was employed on field service in the Saugor and Xerbudda Territories
in the suppression of the Indian mutiny from the 6th February 1858 (Medal).
'6 Colonel F. G. Rideout was employed in suppressing the Khcnd outbreak in Boad in May and June 1862.
Served with the Burmese Expedition in 1885 (Medal with Clasp).
'7 Colonel R. A. C. Hunt served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at tha
storming and capture of the entrenched camp at Wang-kaza 4tli April 1862, of the town ot Tseerpoo 17th April,
at Nazean 27th and 29111 April, at the storming of Kahding lat May, of Tsing-poo 12th May, and at the storming
and recapture of Kahding on the 4th October 1862. Served in the Afghan war in 1879-80, and commanded the 5th
Bombay Native Infantry m the inarch to Candahar with the force under Major General Phayre (.\Ieiial).
18 Colonel C. S. Start served in the Abyssinian war in 1867-6S (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
■' Colonel H. R. Elliot was employed' on field service in the Raichore Doab from 4th June to 5th August 1858.
Served in the Ayssiriian war of 1867-68, and was present at the capture of Magdala (Medal).
2» Colonel &. il. Chambers served with his regiment against the Taepings near Shanghai, and was present at
the storming and capture of the entrenched camp at Wang-kaza 4th April 1862, and of the town of Tseerpoo 17th
April, at Nazean 27th and 2gth April 1862, at the storming of the town of Tsingpoo 12th May, and with the garrison
defending Kanding in May 1862 (Medal). Served in the Afghan war in 1880 (Medal).
»! Colonel L. 'ol. Evans served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858-59 with the 3rd Bengal European
Regiment, and was present with the Mynpooree Movable Column in the operations at Sheraghur Ghat, and with
the Agra Column towards Gwalior. Served also with the Column under Brigadier Showers in the action of Dewsa
against Tantia Topee (Medal).

" Colonel A. J. Howes served with the Kurnool Movable Column and Saugor Field Division, and was present
at the storming of the fort of Rutcea 13th November 1858 (Medal).
20 Colonel F. D. Plowden served during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1858-59, and accompanied General
Frank's Column on the Oude frontier, and was engaged at the capture of Attrowlee (Medal).
2" Colonel M. Millett served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1S57-58, and was present in several engagements,
including the siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
»' Colonel P. H. Tyrrell served in the Abyssinian war in 1S67-68 (Medal).
^'i Colonel H. Rowband served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1864-65 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the
