I.t.Geupral Pakenham served with the 30th Regiment in the Kastern campaign of 1854, and was slightly and
also severely wounded at the battle of Alma (Medal with Clasp, Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Sardinian and
Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
Sir George Maxwell served the Bastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 88th Regiment, including the
battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack of the Quarries on the 7th June (mentioned in
despatches) ; commanded the 88th at the attacks of the Redan on the iSth June and 8th September—severely
wouncied (Medal with three Clasps, CB., Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Knight of the Legion ot Honor, Sardinian and Turkish
Medals, and 4th Class of the Medjidie). Served also in suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-53, including
operations at Cavnipore on 3rd 5th and 6th December 1857, affair at Bhognapore, siege of Lucknow in' March 185S,
and siege of Calpee (Medal with Clasp for Central India).
'Colonel Griffiths served with the 59th Regiment in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Candahar Column
under Sir Donald Stewart, including the advance on and occupation of Khelat-i-Ghilzie; was present in the
engagements at Ahmed Klieyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee, and in the subsequent operations in the Logar Valley
(Medal with Clasp). h f

" Major Clowes served in the Ashanti war from the 30th November 1873, and commanded the Kossoo company
of Wood's Regiment at the battle of Amoaful (Medal with Clasp).

'' Captain Irwin served with the 59th Regiment in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Candahar Column under Sir
Donsi'd Stewart, during 1878 as Orderly Officer to Brigadier General Hughes; took part in the advance on Khelat-
i-Ghilzie and Ghuznee and in the subsequent operations in the Logar Valley; was present in the engagements at
Shahjui, Ahmed Kheyl, and Urzoo near Ghuznee (mentioned in despatches, Modal with Clasp).
*' Captain Battye served with the 59th Regiment in the Afghan war of 1878-80 with the Candahar Column under
Sir Donald Stewart, including the advance on and occupa-tion of Khelat-i-t^hilzie, and also the second advance on
that place under Lt.General Hughes ; was present in the engagements at Ahmed Kheyl and at Urzoo near
Ghuznee, and in the subsequent operations in the Logar Valley, when he officiated as Deputy Assistant Commissary
GeiiCral to the 2nd Brigade (Medal with Clasp).
-' Captain Lake served in the Afghan war in 1878-79 as Assistant Field Engineer with the Southern Afghanistan
Field Force (Medal). Served in the Soudan campaign in 1885 attached to the Intelligence Department, and was
Jiresent in the engagements at Hasheen and the Tofrek zereba and in the advance to Temai (Medal with two
Cliipps, and Khedive';* Star).
" Captain Medhurst served with the 59th Regiment in the Afghan war in 1878-79 (Medal).

M Captain Boehmer served in the Jowaki Afreedee Expedition in 1877-78 with the 51st King's Own Light Infantry
(Medal witli Clasp). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80, and was present at the attack and capture of Ali Musjid

•" Captain Kenneth M. P. Grant served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1885 with the 2nd Battalion of the East
Surrey Regiment, and was present at the attack on the convoy on the 26th March and in the subsequent advance
