• Lieut.General Fraser served as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Campbell at the affair of Munseala near
Allahabad, on the 5th Jan. 185S, and subsequently with the 7th Hussars in the Indian mutiny oarapaign from Feb.
to July 1858, and from Dec. 1858 to March 1859, and was present at the affair of Meengunge, siege and capture of
Lucknow, attUirs of Barrec and Sirseo (horse wounded), action of Nawabgunge (severely wounded whilst leading
a squadron ngainst a body of Gazzie fanatics, mentioned in Sir Hope Grnnt's despatch for " most conspicuous
gallantry," Brevet of Major), throughout the Trans-Gogra campaign, including the aH'air near Churda and pursuit,
taking the fort of Moejedia, attack on Bankeo with pursuit to the Rapteo, adv.ance into Nepaul and affair at
riitkaghat (Victoria Cross, Medal with Clasp): received the iJ(C " for conspicuous and cool gallantry, on the 3ist
December 1858, in having volunteered, at great personal risk, and under a sharp fire of musketry, to swim to the
rescue of Captain Stisted and some men of the 7th Hussars, who were in imminent danger of being drowned in tto
River Raptce, while in pursuit of the rebels. Major Fraser succeeded in this gallant service, although at the time
pa,rtially disabled, not having recovered from a severe wound received wliile leading a Squadron in a charge against
some fanatics in the action of Nawabgunge, on the 13th June 1858." Served in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 as
Commandant at Head Quarters, and in charge of the outposts, and was present at the action of Arogee and capture
of Magdala (mentioned in despatches " for unceasing vigilance," CB. and Medal). [See also Civil Decorations for
Gallantry, " Hart's Annual Army List," p. 786.]
^ Colonel St. Quintiu served with the toth Hussars in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and was present at the attack
and capture of Ali Musjid, and in the engagement at Futtehabad as Orderly Officer to Brigadier General C. Gough
(mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
° Major Davidson served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the 13th Bengal Lancers, and was presentat the action
at Kassasin (9th September) and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
f Majors Fell and Clowes served ^vith the 8th Hussars in the Afghan war in 1879-S0 including the engagement
at ^1 aseena (Medal).
' Lieut. Dwyer served in the Zulu war in 1879 with the 17th Lancerfl and was present in the engagement at
Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
