General in command of the Signallers with Sir Samuel Browne's Division, with which he was present at the capture

"' Colonel James Goldie served with the gth Lancers throughout the suppression of the Indian mutiny in 1857-39,
including the battle of Budlekeserai, siege operations, assault and capture of Delhi, actions of Bolundshuhur, and
AUyghur, battle of Agra, affair of Kanouge, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, action

sion of the Indian mutiny in 1858-59 (Medal). Served with the ist Battalion 19th Regiment in the Hazara campaign
•of 1868, including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Medal with Clasp).
'*i Colonel George Bayley served with the 31st Regiment in the Crimea from 22nd May 1885, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol and attacks of the 18th June and 8th September (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp,
and Turkish Medal). Served during the operations against the Taepings in the vicinity of Shanghai in April and
May 1862, resulting in the taking of the stockade of Nanhsiang, capture by escalade of the walled cities of Kadin,
Tsinpoo, and Tsolin, the fortified town of Najow, the affair at Nanhsiang and relief of Kadiu and Tsinpoo (mentioned
in despatches). Went to South Africa on special service in May 1879 (Medal).
i« Colonel P. C. Elton served in the Crimean campaign from March 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol
in the Trenches with the siege train, and at the bombardments of gth Aj)ril, 6th and 17th June (Medal with Clasp,
Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Egyptian war of 1SS2 in command of the Royal
Artillery of the 2nd Division, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, CS,, Medal

campaign of 1863-64, and at the Umbeyla Pass under Sir John Garvock (Modal with Clasp).
'5' Colonel F. S. Russell served in the Ashanti war from the 17th December 1S73; was attached to Wood's Regi¬
ment, and commanded the post of Accrofoomu on the line of communication (Brevet of Major, Meda 1 with Clasp).
Served in the latter part of the Zulu war of 1879 as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General 2Ud Division, and was present
in the engagement at Ulundi (Medal with Clasp). Also served in the Boer war of 1881.
15- ColonolJ. D. Dyson-Laurie served with the 34th Regiment in the Crimea from the loth August 18,5, includin"
the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan en the 8th September, was
also wounded on a former occasion (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Indian campaigns in
1S58-59, including the capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, relief of Azimghur, defeat of the
rebels at Bootwul, and affair at Bhowanie (Medal with Clasp). Served in Afghanistan in 1878-79 superintending
communications on the Khyber line (Medal). °
>" Colonel A. Straghan served with the 74th Highlanders in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was
present at the storm and capture of Shorapore (Medal). Served with the 2nd Battalion Highland Light Infantry
in the Egyptian war of 1882, and commanded the Battalion at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches
