469 Bengal Staff Corps.—War Services.
*'" Lt.Colonel H. M. Repton served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, and was present at the affair at
Futtehpore, Jaria, Orayiah, and Shereghurghat, pursuit of the rebel force under Ferozeshah, and the liuadiecund
ca.mpaign (Medal).
*"" Lt.Colonel J. Upperton commanded a body of Irregular Cavalry during the Indian mutiny in 1857-38 in anil
about the Delhi division and on the borders of Central India; throughout the Oude campaign in 1S5S-59, and present
at the capture of the forts of Amathie and Shunkurghur, and action of Dhooudinkhera (Medal witli Clasp). Served
with Fn.ue's Horse throughout the campaign of i860 in China, and was present at the action of Sinho, capture of
the Taku Forts, actions of Chankiawhan (thanked by the Commander in Chief of tlie French forces) and Palichau,
and capture of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
'"^ Lt.Colonel H. C. T. Jarrett served in the IndianMutiny campaign (Medal),and was awarded the Victoria Cross
for an act of bravery at the village of Baroun on the 14th October 1858.
*^'' Lt.Colonel W. G. Cubitt served in the Volunteer Cavalry at the action of Chinhut on the 30th June 1S57 and
was awarded the Victoria Cross for having on the retreat saved the lives of three men of the 32nd Foot at the risk
of his own life; was afterwards present throughout the defence of the Residency at Lucknow and was wounded
(Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
*"' Lt.Colonel F. T. Bainbridge served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, including the siege and
capture of Lucknow, operations on the Gorruckpore and Nepaul frontiers, and final tlispersion there of the rebels
(Medal with Clasp). Raised the R.awul Pindee Mule Train for the Abyssinian expedition in 1867; commanded the
Train throughout the expedition, and was present at the action of Arogee and caxjture of Magdala (mentioned in
despatches. Medal, and Brevet of Major). Served with the Hazara field force in 1868, including the expedition
against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Medal with Clasp).
■•^^ Lt.Colonel F. J. Keen served with the 2nd Pnuiaub Infantry during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58;
was present at the siege assault and capture of Delhi, battles of Boolundshuhur and Agra, relief of tiie garrison of
Lacknow, by Lord Clyde, battle of Ca%\Ti|)ore, action of Khodagungc, siege and capture of Lucknovi', occupation of
Bareilly, and many minor afiiiirs (Medal with two Clasps).
*^ Lt.Colonel O. Menzios served in the Oude campaign in 1S58 and was present at the storm and capture of the
fort of Bampore Kussia (Medal).
**■* Lt.Colonel B.D. H.Vibart served with the ist Bengal European Fusiliers at the siege of Delhi in 1S57, including
the battle of NujjufTghttr, storm and capture of Delhi; present at the action of Narloul; subseiiuently accompanied
Seton's Column io Futtehghur and present at the actions of Gungceree, Pattialec, and Mynpooric; served with the
2nd Punjaub Infantry at the siege and capture of Lueknow, also with scvci'al Movable Columns under Sir Hope
Grant and GeneralAValpole, and present at the capture of Bareiliy (Medal with two Clasps).
■"" Lt.Colonel L. H. P. De H. Larpent commantlod a detachment of his regiment with the force under Colonel
Vaughan in the Meranzaic district in July and August 1857. Served as Quarter Master of his regiment with the
Eusofzaie expeditionary force under Sir Sydney Cotton in 1858, and was present at the destruction of Chinglee
Mungul, Thana, and Sittana (Medal with Clasp). Served also during the mutinies of 1B57-58.
■'"^ Lt.Colonel F. M. Armstrong served with the 6th Punjaub Infantry in the expeditionary force nnder Brigadier
General Chamberlain in Maranzaie and Koorum in 1856. Sei"ved also throughout the mutinies in the Peshawur
and Geogaria districts (Medal).
*'" Lt.Colonel R. Smith served with the Delhi Field Force in 1857 and was present at the occupation of Jhujjur.
*" Lt.Colonel A. Bruce served throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59, and vras present at the action
of Sultanpore, and siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp). Served also in the Bhootau campaign of
1865-66 (Medal with Clasp).
■'■'^ Lt.Colonel F. F. Rowcroft served in the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Served with the Bhootau Field Force
throxtghout the operations of 1864-66, including the capture of various stockades (Medal with Clasp). Served in
the Hazara campaign in 1868 including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Clasp).
■'■■'^ Lt.Colonel R. S. Robertson served in the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Also in the Indian mutinj- campaign of
1857-59, including the capture of Jugdespore, siege and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp). Served in the
Coasyah and Jynteah Hills in 1862-63 I't tlie assault and capture of the stockades of Ocmkoi, Nungbarai, Oomkung,
and Surteong (severel.v wounded). "Served with the Left Column of the Dooar Field Force in 1865-66.
■">* Lt.Colonel T. N. Walker served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1S57-58 with the 2nd Bengal European
Fusiliers, including all the siege operations before Delhi in 1857 (wounded on the i8th July), and was selected as
one of the Subalterns of the ladder party at the final assault and capture of the city (wounded on the 15th Septem¬
ber) ; was afterwards ju'esent at the capture of the heights of Sonah, and surrender of the forts of Rewarrie,
Jujjhnr, Ranonde, Furrucknugur, and Builumbghur; served with the 17th Punjaub Infantry in the Rohilcund
campaign in 1858 including the actions of Amsoth, Bagawalla, and Nugeega, and relief of Moradabad (Medal
with Clasp). Has been jjrescnted with the Bronze Medal of the Royal Humane' Society.
■"5 Colonel F. H. Jenkins served with the 4th Sikh Infantry at the siege and assault of Delhi—severely
wounded (Modal with Clasp). Commanded the 4th Punjab Iniantry in the expedition against the Cabool Kheyl
Wuzeerees in 1859; present at the action of Maidani. Commanded a wing of the 4th Sikh Infantry in the expedi¬
tion against the Mnhsood Wuzeerees in i860; and present at the action at Paiasin, and at the forcing of Barrara
Pass. Commanded the Corps of Guides in the Umbeyla expedition in 1863; present at the retaking of the Crag
Piquet, and the action at the Conical Hill (Medal with two Clasps). Commanded the troops engaged at the attack
of the villages in the Utman Kheyl hills on ihe 21st March 1878. Commanded the Corps of Giudes in the Afghan
war of 1878-80, and was protent .at the capture of All Musjid, and at the engagements around Cabul and at
Charasiab (CS).
*'^ Lt.Colonel W.W. Hume served at the commencement of the Indian mutiny with the Meerut Volunteer Cavalry;
afterwards as a volunteer with the Artillery before Delhi during the siege and capture of that cit^- (Medal with Clasp).
*'" Lt.Colonel B. Cracroltserved throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56 and w.as slightl3' wounded. Served
also in the Central Indian campaign with the force under General Whitlock and was present at the attack and
capture of Punwarree Heights near Kirwee on 29th Dec. 1858 (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
*98 Lt.Coloncl A. M'L. Stewart served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 ; with the Delhi field force in Se]3-
tember 1857; present at the taking of Jhujjur, actions of Shumshabad ami Mhow near Futtehghur, siege and
capture of Lucknow (severely wounded on loth March 1858), attack on Rooya, action at Allygunge, taking of
Shajehanpore, siege and capture of Bareilly (Medal with Clasp).
™" Lt.Colonel J. Bartleman served with the 86th Foot in the Centr.al India campaign of 1857-58 and was present at
the siege and capture of Chanderee, siege and capture of Jhansi, action of Koonch, operations before and taking of
Calpee; served with the 2nd Sikh Police Corps against the rebels in the Jugdespore district from August to Novem¬
ber 1858 (Modal with Clasp). Served with the 8th Punjaub Infantry in the campaign of i860 in China, including the
action of Sinho, capture of the entrenched camp at Tangku, capture of the Taku Forts, and capitulation of Pekin
(Medal with two Clasps).
5"' Lt.Colonel A. E. Campbell served with the 31st Bengal Native Infantry during the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56.
Also at Saugor in Central India during 1857-58 ; present at numerous engagements in the district of Saugor, and
was severely wounded on the 18th Sept. 1857 in the attack on the fortified village of Nurricoulee (Medal with
Clasp).
so* Lt.Colonel J. C. C. Daunt served in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 ; present at the attack and defeat of
the Ramguur Battalion at Chuttra, Chota Nagpore on the 2nd October : attack and defeat of the mutineers of tho
32nd Native Infantry at Nowadah, Behar, on the 2nd Nov. 1857—severely wounded (Medal), and awarded the Vic¬
toria Cross for acts of bravery in capturing two guns on the 2nd October and 2nd November 1857. Served in
China in 1858 and was present at the aflairwith the Braves at the White Cloud Mountains, at the repulse of the
Chinese at the Landing I'ier and at the Magazine Hill (Medal).
'"* Lt.Colonel J. W. O'Dowda, served during the Sonthal campaign of 1855.
505 Lt.Colonel A. Vivian commanded a Ressala of Pathan Horse during the mutiny in 1857-59; assisted in the sup¬
pression of the rebellion of the Jat tribes of the Ranee in the Gogaria district in 1857; accompanied Brigadier
Franks' column in the advance on Lucknow, and present at the capture of the ibrt of Dhowrara ; also during the
