with Clasp). Served in May and June 1837 in the Indian mutiny against insurgents. Present at the action of the
-th July iSj-j at Agra—charger wounded. Served in command of a Squadron of Sikh Horse with the Column
under iirig.idior Showers in the pursuit of Tantia Topee from December 1858 to May 1859. Present at the action
'if Dewsi,h i8th January 1859—(mentioned for " gallant conduct," and received the thanks of the Government of
:he North-Wcst Provinces, Modal).
^*° Colonel W. Gordon served in Burmah against the rebel Mong Gong Gee in 1854. Had charge of the entrench¬
ments at Allahabad, andcomniand ofoutpostsduringthemutiniesin 1S57 (Medal). Accompanied theB.xpeditionary
Force to China, and was present at the capture of Pekin (Medal with Clasp).
^*' Colonel H. V. Matliias served throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Was 2nd in Command of the
Rewah and Nagode Rajah's Troops at the opening of the Deccan road in 1857-58, during which operations the
forts ofKunchunporeJoorah, Myhere city and fort, Jokye, Kunnwarrah, Bejeeragooghur, and 42 pieces of ordnance
were taken (slightly wounded). Was 2nd in Command of the Rewah Contingent at the storming of the enemy's
position on the Punwarrah Heights, taking all the enemy's guns, killing their leaders, and entirely dispersing their
force (Medal).
'^^ Colonel W. Playfair served with the ist Sind H^rse, with the 2nd Division of the Persian Expeditionary
Force in 1857, and was present at the bombardment and capture of Mohumra, (Medal with Clasp).
''^^ Lt.Colonel MelmothA. Douglas Orchard served during the Indian mutiny of 1857-58, and was present in the
actions of the 5th July and loth October 1857 ^t Agra (Medal).
^'^* Lt.Colonel C. W. Fletcher served throughout the defence of the Residency of Lucknow from the 30th June until
its final relief by Lord Clyde on the 17th Nov. 1857, and was severely wounded—shot through the loft arm, resulting
in the loss of tlie use of the left hand—whilst on duty as Look-out Officer on the top of the Residency on the iSth
August (Medal with Clasp, wound pension for life, and a year's service).
^"'tColonel D. Macintyre served with the 66th Goorkhas with both expeditions of 1852, under Sir Colin Campbell,
against the Hill Tribes on the Peshawur frontier, including the destruction of the fortified village of Pranghur and
action at Ishkp.kot. Served also with the Expeditionary Force against the Boree Afreedees in November 1853.
Also served with the 66th Goorkh.is in tljo expedition under Sir XeviU Chamberlain to Koorum Vallej', Afghanistan,
in 1856, and with the Doaba Field Force, Peshawur Valley, in 1864 (Medal with Clasp). Employed on several
occasions in 1857-5S, when commanding an extra Goorkha Regiment, in protecting the hill passes <m the Kalee
Kumaon frontier from the Rohilcund reliels, and in keeping the district in order (Medal). Served with the Looshai
expedition in 1871-72 (several times mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Lieutenant Colonel, Victoiia Cro~s, and
Clasp to Frontier Medal). Commanded the 2nd Goorkhas with the Khyber Column in the Afghan war of 1878-79,
and was in both expeditions to the Bazaar Valley.
*8^ Lt.Colonel R. D. Campbell served throughout the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Served throughout the Indian
mutiny campaign, against the mutineers "near Benares on the 6th July 1057 (charger severely wounded),
also at Azimghur, and with the Nepaulese Contingent in the Goruckpore district (Medal). Served also throughout
the Bhootan campaign of 1864-65, and was present at the storming and capture of Dalimkote, and of Bala and
Nagoh stockades (Medal with Clasp).
2*« Colonel C.Nedham served in the loth Regt. the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the whole of the siege
operations before Mooltan, affair of 9th Sept., storming of the enemy's strongly-entrenched position, capture of the
Dowlat Gate, action of Soorjkoond, and surrender of the fortress: afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat
(Medal with Clasp). Served with the 34th Regt. at the defeat of the rebels near Bootwul on the Nepaul frontier on
28th March 1859 (Medal).
'■'^' Lt.Colonel J. Hu Ison served as Adjutant 64th Regt. throughout the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the
storm and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire night attack and battle of Kooshab, and bombardment of
Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Served in Bengal and N.W. Provinces in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58 ; pro-
sent with Havclock's Column in the actions of Futtchpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Oonao, Buseerut
Gunge (tlrst and second), Boorbeakechowkee, Bithoor, Alumbagh, and first relief of Lucknow; present in all sub¬
sequent operations, including three .sorties, until the second relief of Lucknow (thanked by Governor General in
Council) ; served in defence of Cawnpore and defeat of the Gwalior mutineers, and action of Kalee Nuddee and Ker-
keroulie, and capture of Bareilly; acted as D.A. Adjutant General with Sir H. Havelock at Mohumrah and at Alum¬
bagh (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service for Lucknow). Served as 2nd in Command of the 21st Bengal Native
Infantry in the Abyssinian campaign (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
^•"' Lt.Colonel G. C. Depree served in Arracan during the Burmese war of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
™' Lt.Colonel G. A. Prendergast commanded a Scjuadron Mooltanee Cavalry detacheil from Shahjehanpore to the
assistance of the Rajah of Powayne and commanded at PowajTie during the attack on that place b.y the rebels under
Khan Bahadoor Khab and Feroze Shah on tlje 7th and 8th Oct. 1858. Served as Orderly Officer to Brigadier Troup
during the campaign in Oude in 1858-59, and was present in the actions of Pusgaon and Russoolporo, and attack
and capture of Fort Mittowlic (Medal).
'^" Lt.Colonel W.H.Mackesy served in the Ci-imea from i6th Aug.iS55,and wits present at the siege and fallof Sebas-
topol, and assault of the 8th Sept., and acted as Assistant Engineer to the Highland Brigade (Medal with Clasi),and
Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, iiicluding the siege andcapture of Lucknow ; also acted
as Assist. Field Engineer from Nov. 1858, and was eng^iged with the 4^1 Company Royal Engineers in all the actions
and at the taking and destruction of various fortifications from Allahabad to the Nepaul country (Medal with Clasp).
^'* Lt.Colonel M. M. Prendergnst served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58, and was present at the oc¬
cupation of the Aluraba.gh under Outram, siege and capture of Lucknow, and subsequent operations in Oude, affair
of Bunnee (wounded), and actions of Simree and Nawabgunge (tr,rice mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
™^ Colonel II. H. Gough served as Adjutant of Hodson's Horse throughout the siege of Delhi (wounded).
Commanded a Wing of the Regiment in the actions of Bolundshur, Allyghnr, and Agr.a, relief of Lucknow by Lord
Clyde, battle of CawTipore, affairs at Seraighatand Khodagunge, siege and capture of Lucknow (severely wounded,
and two horses killed), and action of Ranode (mentioned in despatches on several occasions for "distinguished
bravery" and thanked by the Governor General of India, Brevet of Maior, Victoria Cross, and Medal with three
Clasps).
^^'' Lt.Colonel A. Sea.grim served with the 1st Royals in the Crimea from the 20th August 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
''''~ Lt.Colonel W. Winson served with the Kelat-i-Ghilzie Regiment on the Peshawur Frontier in 1855-56 and during
the mutiny in 1857 (Medal). With the same Regiment in Eusofzaie under Sir Sydney Cotton in April and May 1858
Commanded the i8th Bengal Native Infantry during the operations in Bhootau in 1865, and was present at the re¬
capture of the Bala Pass (Medal with two Clasps).
^'" Colonel G. R. Westmacott was present with the 23rd Bengal Native Infantry at Mhow when that Regiment
mutinied on the ist July 1857. Commanded a detachment of Hyderabad Cavalrj', Infantry, and Artillery in Malwa
in 1857. Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1857-58, and was present at the
investment of Indore, siege of Ilatghur, repulse of the enemy's attack on our Camp, skirmish of Jhillah (horse
severely wounded by sabre cuts, and personally thanked by Sir Hugh Rose), a,ction of Barodia (wounded and
twice mentioned in despatches), relief of Saugor, capture of Gurrakota' and pursuit to Behra; affair of Zallimpore,
battle of Bctwa and siege of Jhansi; affair of Kotra, ist bixttle of Koonch (horse killed) ; rear-guard ist Bri¬
gade ;it Deopora; action of Galowlee, capture of Calpee, action of Billawah (wounded), affair of outposts
near Gwalior, and rcoccupation of Gwalior. Commanded a Detachment of Artillery and 5th Fusiliers on board
the steamer Biirhumputra from Cawnporo to Allahabad, and was engaged at Heerapore and Kaleekunka on the
passage down in July 1S58 (.Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of M:ijor).
■""> Lt Colonel J. Sconce served in suppression of the Indian mutiny, including the siege and capture of Delhi
(mentioned in despatch), battle of Agra, relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, and battle of Cawupore on 6th December
1857 (Medal with two Clasps).
