^^^ Colonel F. C. Anderson served with the force under General Wheeler in the Punjaub campaign of 184S-49

^^1 Colonel B.W.Ryall served throughout the Sonthalinsurrection in 1855-56. Servedas Adjutant of 2nd Hydera-
liad Cavalry with Kamptee Movable Column, present at forcing of Khonie Pass on loth Jan. 1858, at battles of
iihobrie and Bandah (wounded, horse also wounded), capture of Kirwee, and in all minor engagements fought by
Central India Force under Major General Whitlock up to June 1858. Commanded 3rd Seikh Irregular Cavalry
(luring the Shahabad campaign under Brigadier Douglas, from August 1S58; commanded Southern division of
Cavalry at battle and capture of Jngdispore in Oct. 1858; at battle of Bandah, while wounded and charger also
wounded, rendered essential service, and cut down several of the enemy in hand-to-hand combat (several times
iientioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp for Central India). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-9 in command of
I he 8th Bengal Cavalry.
"2 Colonel E. Dandridge served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal). Served also in the Indian mutiny
campaigns of 1857-59; was Staff Officer to Colonel Sherer at Julpigoree when the Native Cavalry mutinied at that
-tatiou, and also during the operations against the Chittagong and Dacca rebels; commanded a movable column
• n Bundlecund and was engaged in repeated expeditions against the rebel leaders Dowlet Singh and Burgore Singh

^^^ Colonel R. Barter served as Adjutant 75th Regt. throughout the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58, and was
iiresent at the battle of Budlee ke Serai (severely wounded), siege storm and capture of Delhi, including the six
' lays' fighting in the streets, where he commanded the remnant of his Regiment for nearly 24 hours, all senior to
: 1 im having been killed or disabled. Served with Greathed' s Column in pursuit, and present at the action of Bolund-
-liur, affairs of Allyghur and Akerabad, and battle of Agra. With Sir Hope Grant'sColumn at Canoge, during the
. dvance on Cawnpore; crossed into Oude and present at Maharajgunge, and skirmish near the Alumbagh. With
he Alumbagh Garrison, and at the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde. Present with the force under Sir James Out-
';im at the Alumbagh until 14th Feb. 1858, and constantly engaged repelling; the enemy's attacks. Commanded two
ilessallahs of Irregular Cavalry in the advance into Rohilcund and re-occupation of Bignour (Medal with two Clasps).
^" Colonel A. A. Munro served in the Punjaub campaign 01 1848-49 (Medal). Also in the Sonthal campaign of
1855-56. Served theUmbeyla campaign of 1863 with the Euzofzaie Field Force under Brigadier General Chamberlain
(Medal with Clasp).
^"" Colonel A. B. Johnson served in the Burmese war in 1853, and was present at the attack on stockades on
the 19th March (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Served also in the Indian mutiny campaign
(Brevet of Major, and Medal).
^'^ Colonel A. A. Bi'uce served with the force under General Wheeler in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal).
Served also with the force under Colonel Maokeson against the Hussanzies in 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp).
'"'' Colonel J. W. R. Boisragon served in the Saharunpore and Mozuffernuggur Districts during the Indian
mutiny in 1857-58. Commanded the troops engaged at Sedhowlie, Nookur, and Gungah, arud commanded the
Infantry detachment at the a ction of Hurdwar (mentioned in despatches. Modal). Appointed by Lord Strathnairn
to the Command of the 30th Bengal Native Infantry on 2nd Sept. 1866 in consideration of useful and gallant service
in the field.
28* Colonel M. J. Brander served in the Burmese war in 1852-53, and was present at the operations in the
vicinity and capture of Rangoon (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Served as Senior Commissariat Officer and
Paymaster of the Nopaulese Auxiliary Force under Jung Bahador from Dec. 1857 to June 1858, and was present at
the recapture of Goruckpore, capture of the Fort of Julapore, siege and capture of Lucknow (twice mentioned in
despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
^^ Colonel R. Murray served the Punjaub campaign of 1S48-49, including the battles of Sadoolapore, Chillian-
wallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
283 Colonel W. R. Gordon served in the Burmese war in 1852-^5 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
30* Colonel A. C. Bunbury served in the Sutlej campaign of i8.i?-46, including the battle of Ferozeshah and
eurrender of Kote Kangra (Medal).
SOS Colonel C. Armstrong served in the Crimean campaign in 1855 in t'ne Turkish Contingent, and present as a
volunteer with the 49th Rcgt. at the attack of the Redan on the i8th June (Medal with Clasp and Turkish Medal).
Was attached to the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade during the operations at Cawnpore under General Windham in
Nov. 1857 and was severely wounded through both legs, the right amputated (Medal). Served as 2nd in command
of the 14th Bengal Native Infantry during the Umheyla campaign of 1863 (Medal with Clasp).
3'* Colonel J. Macdonald served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal).
"^ Colonel J. T. Watson was engaged in street fighting at Lucknow previous to the action of Chinhat when
the Mahomedans rose on the troops at the Dowlutkhanna, and served throus'hout the defence of the Residency at
Luoknowin 1857, frequently in command of the Cawnpore Battery, afterwards present at the battle of Cawnpore
and defeatof the insurgent Gwalior Contingent (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
"* Colonel G. A. Brown served with the expedition on theJSusofzie border in April and Ma.y 1858, and was
present at the destruction of Chingalee and Sittana, and commanded the present 1st Bengal Native Infantry at the
attack on Sittana and until the force returned (mentioned in despatch. Medal with Clasp).
326 Colonel C. H. Palliser as Adjutant Sind Camel Corps was severely wounded in an action with the Sheoranees
on the Derajat Frontier on the 14th March 1853 (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp). Served the Indian
mutiny campaign of 1858-59; accompanied the Advance Column under Major Renaud from Allahabad towards
Cawnpore (wounded 2nd July 1857), and served with Havelock's Force from its first taking thefleld; commanded
Irregular Cavalry in the actions of Futtehpore ; commanded right troop with Barrow's Volunteer Cavalry in the
actions of Mungarwar, Alumbagh, and first relief- of Lucknow (wounded, and two horses shot) ; defence of the
Residency till the second relief by Lord Clyde ; subsequent occupation of the Alumbagh under Outram from No¬
vember 1857 to March 1858 including actions of Gahilee, repulse of rebel attack, capture of Lucknow. Served with
Hodson's Horse atreoccupation of Fyzabad and crossing of the Goomtee at Sultanpore. Commanded ist Regiment of
Hodson's Horse in the action of Dadoodpore and in repulse and pursuit of rebels at Khandoo Nuddee—dangerously
wounded (mentioned in despatches. Medal with two Clasps, a year's service, and Brevet of Major). Commanded
the 10th Bengal Cavalry in the Abyssinian expedition (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, and
Medal).
331 Colonel W. T. Fagan served in the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. Commanded the 7th Bengal Police Bat¬
talion in the expedition against hostile tribes on the South-east frontier in January and February 1861.
333 Colonel E. G. Clark seiwed with the Nepaulese Force in the Indian mutiny campaign from July 1857 to April
1858 ; commanded the Left Column in the action of Chanda and captured 5 guns, afterwards present in the actions
of Chanda (second), Umeerpore, and Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow; present as Civil Officer at the relief
of Hussungxinj, capture of Fort Mothowlee, and action of Mohundee (Medal with Clasp).
338 Sir Peter Lumsden served with the force employed in various expeditions against, the frontier tribes
in 1852-56 ; served as D. A. Qr. MasterGeneral at the action of Punjhao 15th April 1852 ; at Nowa,dund, Pranghur,
Iskakot, and operations in the Ranezai Valley in May 1852 ; against the Boree Afreedees in 1853 ; to Shah Mooseh
Kheyl against the Mohmund Tribe in 1854; "expedition against the Meranzaie tribe iu April 1855, including the
cavalry affair at Dursummund; against the Bussy Khelut Alum in November 1855 ; iu Merauzaie and Kooran expe¬
ditions in November 1856 (received the special thanks of the Local and the Supreme Governments). Served in a Special
Military Mission to Affghanistan in 1857-58, and received the thanks of the Supreme Government (Medal with
Clasp). In July 1848 he joined the Gwalior Force under General R. Napier, and was present at Ranode and subse¬
quent pursuit in Central India (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Accompanied the expedition to China in i860,
and was present at the actions of Sinho and Tangchow, assault and capture of the Taku Ports, and advance on
Pekin (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Major). With Bhootan Field Force in
1865 (Clasp).
3" Sir Charles H. Brownlow was present with the Army of Reserve during the Punjaub war of 1848-49. Served
with the ist S;kh Infantry in the Black Mountain campaign, Hazara, in 1852-53 ; against the Momund Tribes in
August 1854, when he was shot through the lungs ; and in the Bozdar Expedition of 1857. Commanded the 20th
