' General Perceval commanded the Reserve Battalion of the 12th Regiment in the KafEr War cf 1852-33, and for
his services was nominated a C.B. (Medal).
5 Lt.Colonel Browne served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimea from 4th May 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol, and was on the storming party at the assault on the Redan on the 8th Seiitemljcr—wounded,
and mentioned in despatches for " distinguished conduct" (Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and
5th Class of the Medjidie). Served also in Bengal in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58. with the Jounpore Field
Force in the actions of Nusrutpore, ChanJa, Uinmeerpore, and Sultanpore, afterwards at the siege and capture of
Lucknow and storming of the Kaisarbagh (Medal with Clasp).
7 Major Safford served with the 9 th Regiment in Bengal in suppressing the mutiny in 1857-58—with the Joun¬
pore Field Force in the actions of Chanda, UmmeeriJore, and Sultanpore, afterwards at the siege and capture of
Lucknow (Medal with Clasp).
" Captain Smith was promoted Captain in the 97th Regiment " in recognition of his gallant services when en¬
gaged against the Indians at Orange Walk, British Honduras" on the ist September 1872, on which occasion he
commanded a detachment of the ist West India Regiment and was dangerously wounded by a musket-ball in the
breast.
