1 Sir Walter Walker landed at the Alma on the 22nd September 1854, and commanded the Scots Fusilier Guards
in the subsequent campaign, including the battle of Balaklava, repulse of the sortie on the 26th October, battle
oflnkermau, and siege of Sebastopol. At Inkerman, with his weak Battalion at the Sandbag Battery, he charged
on three occasions heavy Columns of the enemy, driving them down the hill in confusion (received three
wounds, one severe, and had his horse shot under him). On different occasions at the commencement of the
siege he commanded as Colonel the right and left attacks. W.as sent to command the right attack on the i8th
October, vice Colonel "the Honourable F. G. Hood, killed, to coufonn to which order he had to pass at mid-day
over the open plain exposed to all the enemy's guns. Appointed General of the Trenches on the 15th
January 1855, in which capacity ho served until after the fall of the place. Commanded on several occasions
the Divisions engaged before Se'bastopol (Right Attack), frequently on very warm occasions, on one of which, the
30th August, he was wounded in the head by splinters of shell (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with three
Clasps, Officer of the Legion of Honor, 3rd Class of the Medjidio, Turkish and Sardinian Medals).
'Lt.Colonel Fyler served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Modal). Present during the latter part of the New
Zealand campaign (Medal).
^ Major Dorau served with the 50th Regiment in the Crimea from 22nd Nov. 1854, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also the several campaigns in New Zealand from 15th
Nov. 1863 to 1866, and was present at Waiari (mentioned in despatches), the storm and capture of Rangiawhia,
repulse of the enemy's attack on the Camp at Nukumaru, and the affair of Kakaramea (Medal).
' Lt.Colonel Leach served in the 50th Regiment in the Crimea, subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol, from the 19th
September 1855 until the evacuation on 12th July 1856. Served also in the New Zealand war of 1S63-66 as Orderly
Officer to Colonel Waddy when commanding a Field Force in the Waikato in 1864 ; present at Waiari; appointed
Aide de Camp to Brigadier General Waddy 7th Jan. 1865 ; and present at the attack and repulse of the enemy at
Nukumarn (mentioned in despatches) ; appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant General 26th Jan. 1865, and present
at the repulse of the enemy at Kakaramea (mentioned), and served throughout the campaign Wanganui district
under Sir D. Cameron. Accompanied Major General Chute as D.A. Adjutant General during his campaign on
the West Coast in 1865-66, and present at the assault and capture of Okatuku, Putahi, Otapawa, Ketemari, and
Waikoko Pah (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal).
1° Major Falkner served in the Crimea, subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol, from the igth September 1855
until the evacuation on 12th July 1856. Served also in the New Zealand war from 15th Nov. 1863 to 1S64, including
the capture of Rangiaohia (Medal).
*i Captain Bromfleld served in New Zealand during General Chute's campaign of 1866 (Medal).
22 Captain Wynyard served with the 50th Regiment in New Zealand during General Chute's campaign of 1866
(Medal).
