87 Captain T. B. B. Savi commanded the 4th Company of the Bengal Sappers and Miners and served as an
Assistant Field Engineer with the loft Column of the Bhootan Field Force in 1S65-66 (Medal with Clasp).
i"" Captain A. W. Baird served in the Abyssinian campaign as Traffic Manager of the Railway, and was mentioned
in despatches for zeal and management in bringing safely and expeditiously troops and baggage for embarkation
(Medal).
1"^ Captain M. S. Bell commanded the Detachment of Sappers and Miners and served as Assistant Field Engineer
with the Right Column Bhootan Field Force in 1865-66, and was present at the seizure of the Monar Bridge (Medal
with Clasp). Commanded the Detachment of Sappers and Miners and served as Assistant Field Engineer throughout
the Hazara campaign of 1868,—the forced march of 600 miles made by the Detachment, its services, and theconduct
of the Officer commanding prominently brought to notice in despatches (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout
ihe Ashanti war of 1873-74, including the battle of Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (men¬
tioned in despatches, Modal with Clasp, and Victoria Cross).
'"s Ca,ptain P. W. Heneago commanded the Detachment of Royal Engineers in the Red River Expedition of 1870
from Canada under Sir Garnet Wolseley.
'"* Captain T. H. Holdich served in 1865-66 on special duty with a Survey Detachment in Bhootan. Bervedinthe
Abyssinian campaign in 1868 and was engaged in carrying on the Trigonometrical Survey from the Coast to

125 Lieut. Reginald Clare Hart has been awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Humane Society; a Medallion
from the Mayor, in the name of the City of Boulogne ; and a Medal of Honour of the First Class, by the President of
the French Republic, for saving the life of a Frenchman from drowning in the Harbour of Boulogne-sm--Mor, on
the 37th July 1S69, he himself having received on this occasion several severe wounds of the head aud face from
striking, in a leap from the Pier, some sunken piles or rocks. Served with the Khyber Column in the Afghan
war from January to June 1879, first with 2nd Division attached as a Regimental Officer to the 24th Punjab Native
Infantry during tlic 2ud Bazaar Expedition against the Zukha Khel Afreedis, and afterwards with the ist Division.
Was several times employed by tlie Quarter Master General's Department in making reconnaissances (mentioned
in Lieut.General Maude's despatch, Victoria Cross).
1211 Lieut. G. F. Mann served in the Ashanti war from 7th October 1873 until invalided on the 20th January 1S74,
having made the road from Dunquah to Mansu (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
12" Captain M. W. Skinner served on the Gold Coast from the 14th December 1873 until invalided on the 12th
January 1874 (AshantiMedal).
128 Major Chard served throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and commanded at Rorke's Drift during the gallant
and successful defence of that post (mentioned in despatches, promoted Captain and Brevet Major, and Victoria
Cross, Medal with Clasp).
122 Captain Wells served in the Afghan war in 1878-80. Raised a corps of Ghilzais, and with them constructed
the road over the Khojuck. Was present in several minor engagements (wounded).

132 Lieut. H. B. Rich served with the expedition against the Malays in Perak in 1875.

* Sir William Baker served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, and was mentioned in despatches for conducting
General Dick's Division into the entrenchments at Sobraon (Medal, and Brevet of Major).
5 Lord Napier served throughout the Sntlej campaign of 1845-46 as Chief Engineer at the battles of Moodkee
(horse killed) and Fcrozeshah (severely wounded, and horse killed), and as Brigade Major of Engineers at the battle
of Sobraon, and in the subsequent advance on Lahore (mentioned in despatches. Medal aud two Clasps, and Brevet
of Major). Appointed in 1846 Chief Engineer to conduct the siege of the hill Fort of Kangra, and received the
special thanks of Government for his services in the transiiort of the siege train to that place. Served the Punjaub
