War Services of the O^fficers of the Eoijal Artillery. 19,-,
-"■• Major Maule served in the Crimean campaign from May 1855, in the Trenches with the siege train at the
siege and fall of Sehastopol, and bombardments of 6th and 17th June and 17th August (Medal with Clasp, Sardinian
and Turkish Medals). Served also in India in 1857-59 with the Rajpootana Field Force under General Roberts, and
was present in the action of Pertabghur (Medal).
'"^ Lt. Colonel Geary served in the Crimean campaign fromMay 1855, in the Trenches with the siege train at the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and bombardments of the 6th and 17th June and 17th August (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of
the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the field during the Indian mutiny fr(mi October 1858 to 1859 in the
Jugdespore district, and with Sir Hope Grant's and Gorruckpore Field Forces. Served throughout the Abyssinian
campaign from i.st January 1868 as Brigade Major of Artillery and was present at the action of Arogce and capture
of Magdala (mentiouad in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal).

bastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Present at the capture of Canton in December 1057 ; and served
with the expedition of i860, present at Sinho, Tangku, capture of Taku Forts, actions near Taugchow, andsm-render
of Pekin (Medal with three Clasps).

pol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also served in the field during the New Zealand war in 1867.

-''■ Major William Smith served m the Indian campaign of 1857-59, including the relief of Lucknow by Lord
Clyde, battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, actions of Serai Ghat (mentioned m desiiatches), Chanda, Umeerpore, and
Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow, attack of the Moosabagh, and action of Barree ; afterwards present with
various forces m pursuit of the enemy and watching the fords of the Gogra, and in the Trans-Gogra campaign in¬
cluding several small affairs on the Raptee and the frontier of Nepaul (Medal with two Clasps). Served in the New
Zealand war m 1864 in command of a Detachment of Royal Artillery in the campaigns on the Waikato and at Te
Ranga including the attack on the Gate Pah, where his guns were reported by Sir Duncan Cameron as having been
of great sen-ice (Medal).
219 Major Talbot served with the expedition to China in i860, and was present at Tangku, and capture of Taku
Forts (Medal with Clasp).
2-° Lt.C 'lonel Oliver served in the Indian campaign in 1857-58, including the action ofPa.ndoo Nuddee, operations of
the 27th 28th and 29th Nov. before Cawnpore, and battle there on 6th Dec, actions of Kalce Nuddee and Ramgunga,
siege and capture of Lucknow, actions of Bareilly, Shahjehanpore, and Mohumdee, ca.pture of the Fort of Rampore
Kusseah, passage of the Gogra at Fyzabad, and affair of Mucheegaun (mentioned in despatch. Medal with Clasp).
Served in the Bhoot;'.n campaign in 186^-65, and commanded the Artillery of the left column at the taking of the
Fort of Dalimkote, and in the affair at Chamoorchee (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
^^- Major Morgan served in India in 1857-58, and was present at the action of Bandah (Medal). Served with the
expedition to China in i860, and was present at Tangku, capture of Taku Forts, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with
two Clasps).
^■-* Major Ford served in India in 1857-58, including the relief of Lucknow (wounded) by Lord Clyde, affair of
Bundah, of the Alumbagh from Jan. to March, siege and capture of Luckuow (mentioned in despatch. Medal with

2^' Colonel B. L. Forster served as Aide de Camp to Major General Pratt during the New Zealand war of
1860-61 (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Modal).

Fort, siege and capture of Jhansi, and action of Betwa (Medal).

Beyt Island.
-^s Colonel H. Brackenbury served in India in 1857-58, and was present at the action of Banda and capture of
Kirwee (Modal with Clasp). In the Franco-German war of 1870-71 was attached by the Government to the service of
the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded, and was present with the armies till the conclusion
of the Armistice. For his services in this capacity he was appointed Officer of the Legion of Honor by special
decree of the French Government of National Defence, was made a Knight of the First Class of the Royal Bavarian
Order of St. Michael, and received the Iron Cross from the Emperor of Gerdiany. Accompanied Sir Garnet
Wolseley to the Gold Coast in September 1873 as Assistant Military Secretary, and served throughout the Ashanti
war of 1873-74, including the action of Essamen, relief of Abrakrampa, battle of Amo.aful, battle of Ordahsu and
capture of Coomassie (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal w'ith Clasp). In 1875 was further rewarded
with the Brevet of Lt. Colonel on return from special service with Sir Garnet Wolseley in Natal. Served as Military
Secretary to Sir Garnet Wolseley in the latter part of the Zulu war, and throughout the operations against
Sekukuni in 1879, being present at the storming of the strongliold. Performed the duties of Chief of the Staff in
South A,frici from the 29th Sept. 1879 to the 7th Fob. 1880 (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).

actions near Tangchow, and sm-render of Pekin (Medal with Clasp).
-■" Major Dunlop was appointed Commissioner in Perak shortly after the commencement of hostilities in Nov.
1875, and by his able and energetic co-operation mainly contributed to the success of the combined naval and
military operations under Major General Colborre and Captain BuUer, R.N., which ended in the capture of Kinta.

^•'^ Major H. L. Mitchell seri-ed in the Indian mutiny campaign and was present at the attack and defeat of the
ebel force posted in the first range of the Nopaul Hills in March 1S59 (Medal).
"6 Major Parry served throughout the Afghan w u- of 1878-79 in command of a field battery of the Koorum
Valle.v Field Force, and commanded the Artillery of Brigadier General Cobbo s force at the storming and capture
of the Poiwar Kotal on 2nd December 1878 (mentioned in despatches).
2<7 Major Ellaby sei-vod with the expedition to China in i86o, and was present at the capture of the Taku Forts
(Medal with Clasp). Also served in the operations against the Taeping rebels in the vicinity of Shanghai in 1862
with the forceunder General Staveley. Servedin South Africa throughout the Zulu war of 1879 (Medal with Clasp).
2^" Major Nolan brought the " A" Battery Steel Mounted Ordna-nce from England, and was most energetic in
getting it into order previous to the arrival of No. 5 Battery 21st Brigade; and served throughout the Abyssinian
campaign from December 1867 as Adjutant to Colonel Milward, and was present in the action of Arogce and
capture of Magdala (mentioned in despatches, and Medal).
2" Major Burgess served with the expedition from Aden against the Foodlce Arab Tribe in 1866, including the
destruction of Shugra.
"=5 Major Moorsqm served with the expedition to China in i860, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, capture of
