2^ Major Ellison served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 in the 47th Regt., including the battles of Alma and
Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie on 26th Oct. (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian
and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
"* Colonel Stewart served throughout the campaign in Syria in 1840,—at the Camp at D'Jouni as Acting Engineer,
the storm and capture of Sidon, surrender of Bej-rout, bombardment and capture of St. Jean d'Acre (Wai- lledal
with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also on the West CoaM of Africa from 1841 to 1844; commanded r. ■ c-
tanhment of Marines at the destruction of several Barracoons in 1842 and liberated 1,200 slaves at Kabenda, Anibriz,
Black Point, Loango, Punta da Linha, 25 miles up the river Congo ; and a second time at Kabenda, three miles
inland, when he was attacked by a much superior force, and after liberating the slaves .and destroying the linrra-
coons effected a safe retreat to the beach with three men mortally wounded, closely pressed by a large force
of armed Africans (mentioned in despatches). Served with the battalion of Royal Marines sent to Japan from 1864
to 1866, and was present at the bombardment of the batteries at the Straits of Simonosaki, the entrance of the
inland sea of Japan, on the 5th and 6th Sept. 1864.
*" Lt.Colonel Sandeman served with the ist Royal Dragoons in the Crimean campaign from the 6th Oct. 1S54,
and was present at the battles of Balaklava, Inkerman and Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with
three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
•" Lt.Oolonel Henry served in the 86th Regt. with the Malwa, Nerbudda, and Central India Field Force in 1857-5S.
and was present at the siege and capture of Dhar, actions of Mundesoor and Goodarea, siege storm and capture of
OhundHToe, and also of the fort and town of Jhansi, battles of Betwa and Koonch, actions at and in front of Ualpee,
battle of Gowlowlee, capture of Calpee, battle of Morar, actions of the 16th and 19th June, and capture of the town
and fortress of Gvvalior, acted as Aide de Camp to Brigadier Stuart in most of the latter engagements (Medal with
Clasp, four times mentioned in despatches, and Brevet of Major).
"'■ Major Wyatt served with the 14th Light Dragoons in the Persian expedition of 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Also
in the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 185S and was present at the siege and capture of Rahutglnir,
action of Barodia,, relief of Saugor, capture of Gurrakota, forcing the Muddunpore Pass, siege and capture of
Jhansi (Medal with Clasp).
'^ Captain Campbell-Walker served in the 79th Highlanders in the Crimea subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol,
from 14th March 1856 to the end of the Russian War. Served also throughout the Indian campaign in 1858-59 as
Aide de Camp to Brigadier Douglas, including the operations across the Goomteo, siege and capture of Lucknow,
and subsequent operations on the March to the relief of Azimghur (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
^' Captain Pavy served with the 74th Highlanders in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1858, and was present at the
storm and capture of Capaul (Medal).
'' Major Wingfteld served with the 1st Dragoon Guards throughout the campaign of i860 in China, and was pre¬
sent ,,t the fall of the Taku Forts, and engaged in the action of Sinho, also those of the i8th and 21st September.
Commanded the Cavalry force sent to Tungchon with Mr. Wade to demand the giving up of the prisoners on the
20th September, and present at the surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
'^ Lieutenant Malcolmson served in the 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry with the Persian E.^ipeditionary Force in
1856-57, including the assault and capture of Reshii'e, surrender of Bushire, expedition to Borazjoon, and action ot
Khooshab (Medal with Clasp, and Victoria Cross). Served also with the Central India Field Force, including tho
siege of Ratghur and fall of Cal]iee (Medal with Clasp).
" Mr. Waller served in the Oudc campaign in 1858, including the capture of the fort of Kaili (Medal).
3* Colonel Master comm.anded the 5th Fusiliers at tho relief of Lucknow in Nov. 1857, and served with it in
Outram's Force at the Alum Bagh in all the operations of the .succeeding months, nnd commanded the Regt. at tlis
capture of liucknow, as also throughout the Oudc campaign of 1858-59, including the action of Doundericeiraanil
Buxarghat, and capture of the Fort of Oomerea (several times mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, and a
year's service).
^^ Mr. T. Williams served with the loth Hussars in the Crimea from the 6th Jul.y to the istOctober 1855, includin,f
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
'7 Major P. L. Tillbrook served with the 50th Regiment in the Crimea from the 22nd August 1S55, incl'uding tho
siege and fall of Sebastopol (MedOjl with Ciasn, and Turkish Medal).
3' Lt.Colonel H. P. Vance served with the sSth Regiment in the Crimea from January to the 15th. April 1855, in
eluding the siege of Sajiastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also in the Indian campaign from Nov.
1857, anil -(^-as Drosont at the storm njid capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, affairs of Barreo
and NugL'ur (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clapp).
" Captain Noel served with the 31st Regiment thron,ghout the Sutlej Campaign of 1845-46, and was present at
the battles of Moodkee, Fcrozeshah, Buddiwa), Aliwal, and Sohraon (Medal and three Clasps).
■" Major M J. Battye was present with the field force under Brigadier England in all its operations on its second
advance on and return from Kandahar in 1841-42. Also with Colonel Wymer's Brigade in the Urghundaub valie.y.
Present at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal). Joined his regiment (the 2i8t) at the commencement of the outbreak
in the Southern Konkan. Served on General Outram's staff with the Light FieldForco inSawuntWarroe. Present
at the siege and occupation of Munohur and Munsontosh. Engaged with the advanced guard at Golior, 21st
Jan. 1845, and at Moolis. 6th February—horse shot under him.
" Lt.ColonelS. H. Clsrko served with the 21st Fusiliers in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of
Alma, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack of tho Redan on the i8th June, where he commanded the scalinar-ladder
party, and was mentioned in despatches ; served as Adjutant at the fall of Sebastopcil and expedition to Kinbourn
(Med.al with two Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
*' Lt.Colonel Cooch served with the 62nd Regiment in the Crimea from 12th Nov. 1854, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol and the sorties of the 5th 9th and 10th May, defence of the Quarries 7th June, assaults of the
Redan on the 18th June (in command of the Wool-bag party of his regiment) and 8th September (mentioned in
despatches. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the iledjidie, Sardinian
and Turkish Medals). Appointed Town Major in Sebastopol immediately after its fall for his services during the
siege and final assault.
*' Colonel E. Brown served throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including tho battles of Ferozeshih and
Sobraon (Medal and Clasp). Burmese war of 1852-53. including the recapture of Pegu on 21st Nov., relief of its
porrison on 14th Doc, and oneratiors in the vicinit.v (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Suppression of the Indian
mutiny, including the battle of Budleckeaerai. sifge of Delhi and assault of the Bedgate, wounded in five pla,ces, in
one dangerously (Brevet of Major. Medal with Clasn). Served in the Indian N.W. Frontier war of 1863, and was
present at the attack andcapture of the Conical Hill and Umbeyla (Clasj)),
*" Lt.Colonel G. H. Pocklmgton served with the 18th Royal Irish in the Burmese campaign of 1852-53 (Medal
with Clasp for Pegu). Served also in the Crimea from ist June 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and
attack of the iSth June (Medal with Cla.si), and Turkish Medal).
♦7 Major Brnckenbury served with the 6ist Regiment in the Punjanb campaign of 1848-49, and was present at tho
battle ol" Goojerat, and with the Field Force in pursuit of the enemy to the Khj'ber Pass in February and March
1849 (Medal with Clasp) Present with the expedition to the Euzofzie Countr.vand ai the attack and capture of
insurgent villages on the nth and 14th Dec. 1849 (Medal with Clasp). Served with the rank of Captain with the
Turkish Confincrent and performed duty as an Engineer Officer in the Crimea in 1855-56 (Turkish Medal).
*' Lt.Colonel Scott served with the 42nd Highlanders throughout tho Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
battles of .\lma and Balaklava, expedition to Kertch and Yenikale, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three
Clasps, 5th Class of Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in
India, including the actions at Cawnporo (6th Dec. 1S57), Reraighat. Khodagunj. Shumsa.bad, siege and fall of
LucaUow and assault of the Jfartiniere and lianks' Hunuaiow. attack on the Fort of Rooyah, action at Allsgunge,
attack nnd capture of Hnreilly (Medal with Clasp). Embarked for the Gold Coast with the 42nd Highlanders and
served throughout tho second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874. Was present at the battle of Amoafal; comTianded
theRegimint at the cipture and destniction of Bccquah (mentioned in Sir A. Alison's report to Sir Garnet Wolseley
as having had the particular direction of the withdrawal of the Rear Guard), battle of Ordahsu (slight wound of
the head) nnd capture of Coomnssie, and with tho 42nd formed the Rear Guard during the burning of the city, and
on every day's march until the arrival of the Forces at the Adansi Hills (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of
Lt.Colouel, CB., Medal with Clasp).
