War Services of the Lieutenant Colonels. 7 ^
'^ Sir George Pocock served with the 30th Regt. in the Crimea from the 20th June to Oct. 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan on the 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasp,
Brevet of Major, sth Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'^ Lt.Colonel Paget served in India in 1857-59, and was present with Malcolm's Field Force at the defeat of a body
of rebels near Nurgoond, storm and occupation of the Petah and capture of the Fort of Nurgoond, and defeat of
Tantia Topee at Chupra Burode (twice mentioned in despatches. Medal).
1* Lt.Colonel M'Donnell served throughout the Katfii- war of 1846-47 (Medal), during which he commanded seve¬
ral successful skirmishing parties. Led the successful attack under Sir George Berkeley against a large body of
Kaffirs posted in one of their strongest positions at the Sohoto Mountain, where they treacherously murdered
Major Baker and four other officers two days previously. Was present in the action with and defeat of the insur¬
gent Boers at Boem Plaats 29th Aug. 1848, and on Major Armstrong being severely wounded he commanded the
Cape M. Riflemen during the latter part of the engagement.
!=■ Lt.Colonel Bovill served with a detachment of 30 of the Ceylon Rifles, which defeated the insurgents in the
first and second attack on Kornegalle on the 30th and 31st July, during the suppression of the rebellion in the Kan-
dian Provinces in 1848.
1" Lt.Colonel Craufurd served in the Crimea from May 1855 with the siege train at the siege and fall of Sebas¬
topol, and bombardment of 17th June ; was also with the Kertch expedition (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
1" Lt.Colonel GiUum served with the 2nd Battalion Royals in the Crimea from the 22nd April 1855, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was severely wounded at the attack of the 8th September—leg amputated (Medal
with Clasp, Brevet of Major, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
1^ Lt.Colonol G. A. Milman served in the Crimean campaign, Dec. 1854 to July 1855. in the Trenches with the
siego train before Sebastopol, and at the bombardments of gth April and 6th and 17th June (Medal with Clasp,
Brevet of Major, sth Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Meilal).
■ T i'* Lt.Colonel Alex. J. J. Macdonald served in the 95th Regt. in the Eastern campaign up to 6th Nov. 1854, includ¬
ing the battle of Alma (wounded), siege of Sebastopol, sortie of 26th October, and battle of Inkerman, where he was
dangerously wounded, having received seventeen bayonet stabs (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, Sar¬
dinian and Turkish Medals).
2i> Lt.Colonel Hon. B. J. W. Forester served throughout the campaigns in AflTghanistan from 1838 to 1842 inclusive,
including the storm and capture of Ghuznee (Medal), storming the Khoord Cabool Pass, affair of Tezeon, forcing
the Jugdulluck Pass, reduction of the fort of Mamoo Khail, defence of Jellalabad, and sorties on the 14th Nov. and
ist Dec. 1841, nth March 24th March and ist April 1842, general action and defeat of Akbar Khan before Jellalabad
(Medal), storming the heights of Jugdulluck, general action of Tezeen, and recapture of Cabool (Medal). Served
as an Aide de Camp to Sir Willoughby Cotton in 1838, 39, and 40, and at Ghuznee.
21 Lt.Colonel K. R. Maitland served the Eastern campaign of 1854 and early jiart of 1855 with the 79th Highlanders,
including the battles of Alma and Balaklava, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
Served in the Indian campaign of 1858-59, including the siege and capture of Lucknow, attack on the Fort of
Rqoyah, actions of Allygunge, Bareilly, and Shahjehanpore, capture of Forts Bunniar and Mahomdie, passage of
the Gogra at Fyzabad, capture of Rampore Kussia, and subsequent operations in Oude across the Gogra and
Baptee rivers (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major). Served with the Sikkim Field Force in 1861 (mentioned
in despatches).
^^ Lt.Colonel Rhodes served the campaign of 1853 and the spring campa,ign of 1854 on the Danube as Aide de Canrp
to the Spanish General Prim, was present at the battle of Oltenitza. Subsequently was attached to Selim Pacha's
Staff and accompanied the Turkish IiTegular Cavalry in three successful sorties from the Quai antine Station; present
in the Tete de Pont when the Russians unsuccessfully attacked and bombarded that position, retiring with loss; was
also at the reti'eat of the Russians from Giergevo and Slobodsia in 1834. For the above-mentioned services he has
received the Spanish Order of Isabel the Catholic, also the Turkish Order of the Medjidie 4th Class, with a Sword of
Honor from the Sultan. Served the campaign of 1854 on the Staff of the Army in the Crunea, and was present at
the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasjis, and Turkish Medal).
^* Lt.Colonel S. Darling served in the Crimea as Deput.y Assistant Quarter Master General ist Division
subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol from October 1855 to the ist May 1856.
^5 Lt.Colonel R. H. Rocke served in the China war of i860, and was engaged in the actions of the 12th and 14th
August (Medal with Clasp for Pekin).
^^ Lt.Colonel Dowson served with the 2Qth Regiment throughout the Pmnjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the
affair of llamnuggur, passage of the Chenab, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Modal with two Clasps).
2s Lt.Colonel T. S. P. Field served in the Kaffir war of 1851-52 (Medal). Served in India in 1858 and was present
with the Central India Field Force at the attack and capture of Fort Lahoric, attack on Koonch, and capture of
Calpce (mentioned in despatch. Medal).
i*" Lt.Colonel Charles Steel served with the 12th Lancers in the Crimea from 29th Julj' 1855, includmg the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
''- Lt.Colonel Stacpoole served with the i8th Roj'al Irish in the Burmese campaign of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp
for Pegu). Also in the Crimea from 30th December 1854 to nth April 1855, including the siege of Sobastopol (Medal
with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
^2 Lt.Colonel de Ruvigues served with the 80th Regt. in the Burmese war of 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp for
Pegu); was present at the capture of Prome, and repulse of the enemy's night attack. Served with the force
which escorted elephants from India across the Gonin Tonug Mountains, and in pursuit of the Woozoer Monung
Shera Monung's force, resulting in the destruction and capture of the entrenched position of Tonosh.
^■^ Lt.Colonel G. Longley served with the local rank of Captain in the Turkish Contingent Engineers in 1855-56
(Turkish Modal). Served with the Expeditionary force in Cliina in 1857-59, and was present at the capture of Canton,
afl'air at the White Cloud Mountains, capture of Namtow, attack on the Peiho forts—dangerously wounded (mentioned
in despatches on all the above occasions. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
'^ Lt.Colonel G. Gaynor served the camjiaign of 1845 against the Hill tribes in Scind under Sir Charles Napier.
Also the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of Ramnuggur, and battles of Sadoolapore, Chdlian-
wallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
'■"• Lt.Colonei C.Johnston served in India in 1857-58, and was present atthebattleof Cawnporeon6thDec. (Medal).
^8 Lt.Colonel Sidobottom-Venner served with the Buff's at the siege of Sebastopol in 1855 (Modal with Clasp).
^' Lt.Colonel D. Robinson served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Crimea from 13th June 1855, including the ex¬
pedition to Kertch, siego and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of the 18th June (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
*" Lt.Colonel A. H. Cass served with the loth Hussars in the Crimean campaign from the 17th April 1855, including
the ca,pture of Tchorgaun, battle of Tchemaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
*' Lt.Colonel K. Le Pellcy served with the 75th Regt. during the Indian campaign of 1857-58, from the outbreak
on 12th May, including the battle of Budleekeserai, siege storm and capture of Delhi, jiursuit of the enemy and
acti'.us of Bolundshuhur, Allyghur, Acrabad, Agra, Kanoj, advance into Oude and affiiirs of Maragunge and Alum-
bagli, occupation alter the relief of Lucknow of the fortified outposts and camp with Outram's Force, and repulse of
the enemy's attacks (Medal with Clasps, and Brevet of Major).
■" Lt.Colonel Maycock served the Eastern campaign of 1854 in the 47th Regiment, including the battles of the
Alma (wounded) and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie of the 26th October (Medal with two Cla.sps,
Sardinian and Turkish Med.als, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
'" Lt.Colonel Peddor served with the 3gth Regt. in the Crimean campaign from the 31st Dee. 1854 to the 29th July
1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the i8th June (Modal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal).
♦^ Lt.Colonel A. Saltmarshe served with the 70th Regiment in New Zealand during the war of 1863-65, and was
severely wounded at Pukikohe (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal). Served also during the
Indian mutiny in 1857-58 (Medal).
*^ Lt.colonel Clcevc served as Adjutant of the 51st Light Infantry throughout the Burmese war of 1852-53; on board
the E.I.C. steam-frigate Ferooz during the naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades on the Rangoon
River; served during the succeeding three days' operations in the vicinity (including the storming of the White Hous
Redoubt), storm and capture of Rangoon, and repulse of the night attack on Prome (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
