and Rail's Artillery. Commanded the force at the capture and destruction of Adubiassie, and capture of Borbo-
rassie; commanded the Left Attack at the battle of Amoaful; commanded the Advanced Guard at the capture
and destruction of Becquah, the Advanced Guard engagement of Jarbinbali, and the skirmishes and ambuscade
affairs between Adwabin and the river Ordah. Commenced the attack at the battle of Ordahsu v/ith portions of
Wood's and Russell's Regiments, three companies Rifle Brigade, and a 7-poundcr gun (slight contused wound of
the hand). Afterwards with the 42nd, a gun, and Rocket Detachment, forced the position and presshig the
fugitives with the Highlanders entered Coomassie the same evening and was appointed Conunaudaut of t!ie place
(several times mentioned in despatches, KCB., Medal with Clasp).
^*" Major General M. "Walker served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 ^^ Adjutant of the 30th Regt., including the
battles of Alma (wounded) and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, nnd sortie on 26th Oct. On the night of the 21st
April he volunteered and led a party which took and destroyed a Russian Rifle-pic, for which he was mentioned in
the despatches, and promoted into the Buffs. On the night of 9th June he was dangerously wounded in the
Trenches—right arm amputated (Medal with three Clasps, Victoria Cross, sth Class of the Medjidie, Turkish Medal,
and Brevet of Major). Served throughout the campaign of i860 in China as Brigade Major of the 4th Brigade
(Medal with two Clasps for the Taku i'orts and Pekin, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
2'8 M ajor General Sarel served with the 9th Lancers during the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles
of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Also throughout the Indian mutiny in 1857-59, was present
fit tlie siege and capture of Delhi, commanded the Cavalry of the force under General Nicholson at the action of
NujulTghur, and a squadron at the Moiroe Bastion on 14th Sept., also at the battle of Bolundshuhur where he was
severely wounded whilst leading a charge through the town, present at the actions of AUyghur, Agra, Kanoge,
Maraigunge, served a.s Brigade Major of Cavalry at the affair at the Alumbagh, assault of the Secundra Bagh, and
the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde (Brevet of Major), battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, actions at Seraighat and
Khodargunge, occupation of Futtehghur, passage of the Goomtee under Outram, siege and capture of Lucknow, the
summer campaign in Oude and Rohilcund,actions at Rooya and Allygunge, capture of Bareilly, relief of Shahabad,
the repulse of the attack on it and jnirsuit of Mohumdeo ; also with the Cavalry in Oude under Sir Hope Grant, and
present at the occupation of Fyzabad; commanded a Regiment of Irregular Cavalry during the latter part of campaign
in Oude, and was present with it at the passage of the Gogra and the subsequent operations in the Terai (thanked
by the Governor General in Council, and fourteen times mentioned in despatches. Medal w ith Clasp). Acted on the
Staff of Sir Hope Grant in China in i860 (Brevet of Lt.Colonel. Medal with tw-o Clasps for the Taku Forts and Pekin).
251 Major General Feilden commanded the ist Battalion 60th Rifles on the Red River expedition of 1S70 (CMG.).
^''^ Sir PkOger Palmer served the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 26th Aiigust 1855 with the i ith Hussars, in¬
cluding the affair of Bulganak, battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four
Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
^'^ Sir Sej'mour John Blane served with the Scots Fusilier Guards throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman (wounded), siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of the 26th Oct.
(Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish iledals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie). Served as Brigade Major
to General Nicholson at the defeat of the Sealkote mutineers at Goodaspore on the 12th and i6th Jidy 1857, action
at Nujjufghur, siege and assault of Delhi,—three times mentioned in despatches and in General orders by the Go-
Ycmor General (Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
^'^ Major General Hareno served with the 97th Regiment in the Indian campaigns in 1857-58, including the
actions of Nusriitpore, Chanda, timmeerpore, and Sultanpore, siege and capture of Lucknow (mentioned in the de¬
spatches of the Governor General of India, Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
^■•'^ Major Genera] Gubbius served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Aide de Camp to Sir De Lac.y Evans, in¬
cluding the battles of Alma and Inkerman (severely wounded) and siege of Sebastopol (Brevet of Major, Medal
with three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
'^'-^ Major GeneralGoodlake served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including t!ie battles of Alma,
Inkerman, Balaklava, and Tchernaya, and siege and fall of Sebastopol. He volunteered for the Sharpshooters of
the Brigade of Guards, commanded them for 42 days, and was engaged at the repulse of the sortie of 26th October
1854; and he served on the Quarter Master General's Staff from Feb. 1855 (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of
Major, Victoria Cross, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Modjidie, and Turkish Medal).
2=7 Major General the Hon. R. Monck served with the 43rd Regiment in the Kaffir war in 1853 (Medal).
^'^ Major General J. C. Rattray served with the 90th Light Infantry in the Crimea from the 4th Dec. 1854, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol, was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan on the Sth September (Medal with
Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Sei-ved also during the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and was present with Havelock'.s
Column at the relief and subsequent defence of Lucknow (twice mentioned in despatches), defence of the Alumbagh
under Outram, and capture of Lucknow by Lord Clyde (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
2i"i Major General H. G. Woods served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimea from 20th Nov. 1854, and was
present at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and commanded the Grenadiers of the g7th with the storming party of
the Redan on the Sth Sept.—wounded (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
Medal).
2''' Major General J.L.Whitmore landed in the Crimea with the 2nd Battalion ist Royals on 22nd Apr. 1855, and was
at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
-'<- Major General F.W. Burroughs served with the 93rd Highlanders throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Bala,klava, expedition to Kertch and Yenikale, siege and fall of Scbastopol, and
assaults of the iSth June and Sth September (Medal with three Clasps, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
Served also in the Indian campaign in 1857-58, including the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, the storming of the
Secundrabagh and of the Shahnujeev (was the first through the breach at the Secundrabagh and was slightly
wounded on the head by a tulwar cut), battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec. and pursuit to Seraighat, action of Khoda-
gunge, storming of the Beegum Khotee and capture of Lucknow—severely wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal with
two Clasps). Served with the Euzofzai Field Force in the campaign against the Boneyrs and other mountain tribes
on the N.^\'. Frontier of India in Dec. 1S63, and commanded the Regiment whilst encamiied in the Umbeyla Pa.ss
(raeutioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
^'''^ Major General C. F. T. Daniell served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Brigade Major in the 3rd Division,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, aud attack of the iSth June (Medal
with three Cla,Rps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^f^' Major General A. A. Nelson served as Sub Assistant Commissary General in solo charge of troo])S of Bombay
Army throughout the operations in Candahar and Affghanistan during 1841-42 uTider SirWm. Nott (Medal), and was
present in ttie actions of Kale Sheekle, Nungie Keek, Goaine, Ghuzneo, and occupation of Cabool, and in all the
affairs in which the Candahar Division was engagedin its progress through the Khoord Cabool, Tezeen, Jugdulluck
and Khyber Passes. Accompanied the Bombay troops under Colonel Stack from Ferozepore to effect a junction with
the army under Sir Charles Napier in Sind and was present at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal). Received the
thanks of the Governor General of India and also of the Bombay Government for the manner in which the duties of
Commissariat had been conducted. Served as Aide de Camp to Sir Thomas Valiant in the action of Maharajpore
29th Dec. 1843, and had a horse shot under him (mentioned in despatches. Bronze Star). On the outbreak of the
insurrection in Jamaica in 1865 he was appointed (being then Deputy Adjutant General) Briga,dier General to
command the Troops in St. Thomas-in-the-East. Received the thanks' of the Governor and a vote, unanimously
passed by the Jamaica House of Assembly, of 200 guineas for a testimonial in recognition of his services.
'^ Major General E. S. Burnaby served in the Eastern campaign from Nov. 1854 up to 28th July 1855, including
the battle of Jnkcrman and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie,
and Turkish Medal).
2'' Major GeneralW. Roberts served with the 28th Regiment throughout the Eastern camp.aign of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and affair in the Cemetery on the iSth Juno (Medal
with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidio, and Turkish Medal).
Commanded a Detachment of 500 men of the 26th Regt. against the Waghers with the Okamundel Field Force in
1859, includirg the assault on the t'ort of Beyt on the 6th Oct., and siege and occupation of Dwarka ; commanded
the reconnaissance on Dwarka from Lt.Colonel Donovan's Force, consisting of 2 field-pieces and 150 men, on the
26th October, 1859.
