the 3rd Regiment of Hodson's Horse as Adjutant and served the Trans-Gogra campaign of 1859 up to the final
surrender of the rebels in December (Medal, and recommended b.y Lord Clyde for the Victoria Cross).
'^' Lt.Colonel A. Fit?, Hugh served in three affairs against Momunds at Fort Shubkudr in Dec. 1863 and January
1864. Also in the expedition to Dour under Brigadier General Keyes in Feb. 1872.
"" Lt.Colonel R. B.P. P. Campbell served with the ist Bengal European Fusiliers at the siege and capture of Delhi
in 1857, and with the 2nd European Fusiliers in the subsequent operations in the Meerut, Jhujjnr, and Rawaree
districts. Was attached to the faithful remnants of the nth Native Infantry, and engaged in rescuing the Rohilcund
refugees. Served with the 2nd Punjaub Cavalry at the siege and capture of Lucknow, action of Koorsee, capture
ofRooya, action of AUyguuge, capture of Bare"illy. action of Rohunpore, and againaj the rebels in the Terai (Medal
with two Clasps). Served with the expeditionary'force under Brigadier General Chamberlain against the Cabool
Kheel Wuzeerees in 1859-60 (Medal with Clasp). Commanded a detached squadron of the Corps of Guides Cavalry
throughout the Hazara campaign of 1868, including the Black Mountain expedition (mentioned in despatches).
Commanded the Corps of Guides throughout the Jowaki Afreedee expedition in 1877-78 (mentioned in despatches).
Commanded the troops engaged in the operations against the Ranizai village of Skhakat on 14th March 1878
(received the thanks of Government) ; and was also with the Corps of Guides at the attack on the Utmau Kheyl
villages on 21st March 1878.
^^' Major A. G. Owen was present at the battle of Budleekeserai and in all the subsequent engagements under
the walls of Delhi in 1857, including the action of Nujjuflghur; also present at the storm and capture of Delhi—
dangerously wounded (Medal with Clasp).
"2 Lt.Colonel R. A. Wauchope served in 1857 with the 4th Sikh Infantry at the siege and capture of Delhi, and was
engaged at the repulse of many of the enemy's attacks; on the 14th September he commanded 50 men at the
storming of the Water Bastion; was engaged at the subsequent six daj-s' street fighting in the city, and on the
19th September commanded a Detachment at the capture of the Burn Bastion (Medal with Clasp). In 1860-61
served with Rattray's Sikhs against the hill tribes in Sikkim with the force under Colonel Gawler (mentioned in
despatches). In 1863 served in the 23rd Pioneers with the Euzofzie Field Force in the Umbeyla campaign, and was
engaged at the storming of the Conical Ilill, capture of Lalloo, and final defeat of the enemy at the Bonair Pass
(Medal with Clasp). In 1864-65 served during the Bootan wa.r, and engaged at Dalimkote, Chamoorchi, Bala, and
Buxa (twice mentioned in despatches, Clasp). In i874-7sserved with the Duffla expedition under BrigadierGeneral
Stafford (mentioned in despatches). Commanded the Transport Corps with the force under Colonel Nutiall in the
operations against Naga Hill Tribes on the NorthEastem frontics- of India in 1875 (mentioned in despatches). Com¬
manded the i4tli Sikhs throughout the Jowaki expedition of 1877-78 (mentioned in despatches. Medal). Served
throughout the Afghan War of 1878-9 (Brevet of Lt. Celonel).
'^' Major H. A. Lewes was present at the outbreak of the mutiny at Meerut on the loth May 1857, an'd was
severely wounded. Served with the Meerut Volunteer Horse raised ior sei-^'ice in that district, and afterwards was
7th Punjaub Infantry at the actions of Gungeree and Puttiallee, attack on and reoccupation of Mynpoorie, also at
Bungaon, assault and capture of Forts Dehain and Tirroul, operations of Brigadier Kelly's Force in the Terai, and
forcing of the enemy's position in the Jurwah Pass, lower Nepaul Range (Medal). Servedas Adjutant 30th Punjaub
Infantry during the Bhootan camjiaign in 1864-65, and was engaged at the capture of Forts Dalimkote and Cha-
moorchee, and at the Bala Pass, and Nagoh stockades (Medal with Clasp).
^* Major H. G. Saunders served during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 including the action of the sth
July 1857 near Agra with the Neemuch mutineers, and afl!air at Shereghat (Medal).
5^' Major R. H. Hudleston served as Adjutant of the 9th Punjaub Infantry with the force under Sir Sydney
Cotton to the Busofzie frontier in 1858, and was present at the aflTairs of Chingli'and Sittana (Medal with Clasp).
53« Major R. M. Skinner served in the defence of the Kumaon Hills and Rohilcund against the rebels in 1857-58,
and present at the actions of Huldwanee on the 17th Sept. 1857 and 1st Jan. 1858, and Cherpoorah on 18th Feb. 1858,
and saved the life of his commanding Officer at the risk of his own (Medal).
'^* Major F. P. W. Freeman served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1858 and was present at the final capture
of Jugdespore (Medal).
"5 Major R. Wheeler served as Interpreter to the 7th Hussars during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1858-59,
including the advance into Nepaul, attack and capture of the enemy's position and guns at Sitkaghat (Medalj.
Served with the 20th Native Infantry throughout the Umbeyla campaign of 1863 (Medal with Clasp).
5*' Major H. Morton served in Oude and was present at the pursuit and capture of the rebel Rajah of Toolsee-
pore. Served during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59,—against the rebels in Bundlecund in 1859, and com¬
manded a detachment of two guns, a squadron of Irregular Cavalry and 3 companies of Native Infantry for about two
months in frequent expeditions against the rebel leaders Dowlut Singh and Buojore Singh near the Sind river (Medal).
'*' Major A. R. Chapman served throughout the siege of Delhi including the battle of Budleekescrai, skirmishes
in the Subzeo Mundee from the 9th June to the 13th Aug. 1857, assault and capture of the city; was afterwards
present at the actions of Narnoul, Gungecree, Pattialee and Mynpoorie, siege and capture of Lucknow, action of
Baree, and subsequent operations in Oude (Medal with two Clasps).
5« Major E. C. Codringtou served during the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-58 and was present during the
occupation of the Alumbagh from the 16th January to the loth March 1858, including the repulse of three separate
attacks on the i6th January, affair of the 15th February, repulse of the night attacks on the igth and 21st, afl'air of
the 25th, repulse of the night attack on the 25th Febru'ary, and affair of the gth March ; also presen-., at the siege
and capture of Lucknow including skirmishes on the igtli and 21st March in the vicinity of the Moosa Bagh; subse¬
quent operations in Oude including the actions of Bai-ee and Sir.see (Medal with Clasp). Served in the 4th Sikh
Infantry with the force under Brigadier General Chamberlain against the Cabool Kheil Wuzeerees in 1859-60 in¬
cluding the afifair at Midanee (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 5th Ghoorkas throughout the operations in
TJmbeyla (mentioned in despatches, Clasp); also with the same regiment during the Hazara campaign of 1868,
including operations in the Agrore Valley and the expedition against the tribes on the Black Moimtain.
^*'^ Sir Robert Sandeman served with Brigadier Showers' Column in the Delhi and Jhujjur districts; was with
the ist Sikh Cavalry at the siege and capture of Lucknow and was wounded at the Moose Bagh ; served afterwards
with column in Oude in 1858-59 (Medal with Clasp).
5*' Major C. E. Bates served during the Indian mutiny and was severely and dan^jeronsly wounded on the occa¬
sion of the mutiny at JuUunder on 7th June 1857. Operations in Bundlecund in 1859 (Medal). Also served
throughout the campaign of i860 in China, including the action of Sinho, taking of Tangku, capture of the Taku
Forts, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Sei-ved with the Bhootan Field Force from February 1865
until the conclusion of operations, from April 1865 as Brigade Major (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Trans¬
port Train in Abyssinia in 1868 (Medal). Also with the Looshai expeditionary force in 1S70-71 as Brigade Majoi
to the Chittagong Column (mentioned in despatches, thanked by the Governor General in Council, Brevet of Major,
and Clasp). Has also on two other occasions received the thanks of Government for Civil and Political services.
"* Major F. Lance served again.st the rebels in Rohilcimd in 185S; was present at the defence of the Jail at
Shahjehanpore, and in the affairs of Mohunrudpore and Nooria., and action at Sisseahghat—severely wounded by a
musket ball above the left ankle and horse shot (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
"° Major C. J. Griffiths served with the 43rd Native Infantry in Bhootan in 1864, including the capture, retreat
from, and retaking of Dewangiri, and several minor engagements (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 3rd Sikhs
in the Hazara campaign of 1868 including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Clasp). Served
with the 3rd Sikh Infantry in the Jowaki expedition of 1S77-78 (mentioned in despatches, Clasp!.
