pedilion to Malacca in 1852, and with the second expedition to Burmah 1852-53 (Medal with Clasp foi' Pegu). Com¬
manded the Kimedy Field Force in November and December 1856.
" General J. C. C. Gray served during the Nepaul war. Also at the siege and capture of Bhurtpore in 1825-26
(Medal with Clasp).
" General M. Carthew served in the Goomsoor campaign in 1837. Also in the sunproasionof the mutiny in
Bengal in 1857-58, and was present in the actions of the 26th 27th and 28th November 1857 in the vicinity of Cawn-
pore when attacked by the whole of the Gwalior Contingent (Medal, and CB.)
** General F. B. Corfield served during the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the actions of
Chillianwalla and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
*^ General W. R. Corfield was present at the siege and storm of Bhurtpore in 1S25-26 (Medal with Clasp).
Was employed in the Cole country in 1836-37. Served with the Army of the Indus in 1S39 40 and was present at the
storm and capture of Khelat. Also the Gwalior campaign in 1843-44, including the battle of Maharajpore (Bronze
Star). Commanded the 30th Bengal Native Infantry throughout the Punjaab campaign, including the actions of
Sadoolapore, Chillianwallah, and Goojerat, and subsequent pursuit of the Sikhs and Atfghans to Peshawur (Medal
with two Clasps, and Brevet of Lfc.Colonel).
53 General R. A. Bayly sei-ved in the Persian Gulf in 1820 ; against the Khosas in the Runu of Kutch in 1822 ;
and with the 6th Bombay N.I. at the attack and capture of Kittoor in 1824.
^* General D. Simpson served in command of a Force against the rebels in the hills north of JuUunder in
1848-49, and was present at the storming of the heights of Umb and subsetiuent occupation of the fort of Oonah
(Medal with Clasp).
^^ General W. C. IvI^j^eod served in the first Burmese war and was present at Donabew, Prome, and many other
affairs during the •. ampaign in Ava (Medal with Clasp).
" General G. ."- Bail'he served in the Burmese war of 1824-26 (Medal with Clasp). Was engaged in the sup¬
pression of the insurrection in Canara in 1837.
"> Sir Neville Chamberlain served throughout the Affghan campaigns of 1839-42, during which he was attached
to Christie's Corps of Irregular Cavalry, and was wounded on six different occasions and has received the Medal
for Ghuznee, and also the Medal inscribed " Candahar, Ghuznee, and Cabul 1842." Was present with the Governor
General's Body Guard at the battle of Maharajporo 29th Dec. 1843 (Bronze Star). Served in the Punjaub campaign
of 1848-49, including the actions of Chilliauwallali and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Commanded the Force on
the N. W. Frontier of India in various expeditions against the hostile Hill Tribes, and with signal success (Medal
with Clasp, KCB. and KCSI.).
^^ General J. E. Landers commanded the Bhopal Contingent in an engagement with a party of insurgents in
1846.
'^ General J. Travers served throughout the campaigns of 1840-42 in Affghanistan, partly with his own
Regiment the 2nd Bengal Grenadiers and partly -svith Skinner's Horse the present ist Cavalry, and was present In
the actions of Lundi Khanah, Khamind, BabaWullee (sabrewound), Cavalry actions of 28th and 31st August, recap¬
ture of Ghuznee, actions at Benee Badaum, and Mydaum, also in many attacks upon the Rear Guard and Forage
Parties of General Nott's Army (twice mentioned in despatches, and name brought to the special notice of the
Government of India by General Nott who also thanked him on the ileld on two different occasions for his services
in contact with the enemy. Medal inscribed "Candahar, Ghuznee, and Cabnl 1842," and Brevet of Major). Served in
the Sutlej campaign in 1846 and commanded the Nussoeree Goorkha Battalion in the battle of Sobraon (mentioned
in despatches. Medal). Commanded the Cavalry of the Bhopal Contingent in the attack upon and defeat of insur¬
gents at KuUea Karee on the loth October 1846 (mentioned in despatches, and thanked by Governor General).
Commanded the Bhopal Contingent in the ileld against Shunker Sing in 1856 and received the thanks of Govern¬
ment for the complete success which attended these operations. Commanded at and in retreat from Indore ist July
1857 (mentioned in despatches, and thanked by Government, Medal, and also awarded the Victoria Cross " for a
daring act of bravery when the Indore Residency was suddenly attacked by Holkar's Troops, in having charged
the Guns with only five men to support him, and driven the gunners from the guns, which saved the lives of many
persons, fugitives to the Residency. His horse was shot in three places, and his accoutrements were shot through
in various parts").
^5 General P. T?. Cherry was employed on three occasions against the Ba.jah of Kolaporo. Served with the
ist Madras Cavalry during the Coorg campaign in 1834. Was present at the siege and surrender of Bolourjee in
September 1841.
"^ General R. Shubrick served during the Burmese war in 1852-53; commanded seven Companies of the 5th
Madras Native Infantry at the capture of Pegu (thanked in despatch, and by the Governor General); commanded
the Regiment in the advance from Martaban to Tongboo; present at Gongoli and other minor affairs—thanked
in despatch and by the Governor General (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Served with the Saugor Field Division
in 1859 and conducted the operations which led to the capture of the rebel Runmust Singh of Rewah.
«" General W. B. Wemyss served throughout the campaign of 1843 in Sind and was present at the battles
of Meeanee and Hyderabad (Medal).
«8 Sir Edward Lechmere Russell served with the field force in Sind and Afghanistan in 1842-43 and was present
in all the operations including the expedition to and destruction of Imaumghur, and as Adjutant of the Sind
Irregular Horse in the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad, and surrender of Omcrkote (Medal).
^^ General H. W. Matthews served the campaigns of 1839-42 in Affghanistan and was present throughout
the operations of the Candahar Force and taking of Istaliif, and was wounded in the Jugdulluck Pass (Medal).
Present at the battle of Maharajpore 29th Dec. 1843 (Bronze Star). Served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846 and
was present at the battle of Sobraon (Medal).
7" General C. Prior served witli Brigadier Wild's Brigade in 1841-42, and was present at the relief of the
Garrison of Ali Musjid, Kyber Pass, and in the several actions from the 13th to the 26th January 1842. Also the
campaign of 1842 in Affghanistan under General Pollock, including the storming of the Kyber Pass and subsequen
operations on the advance to Cabul (Medal). Served against the Hill Tribes under Sir Cliarlcs Napier in 1845.
" General F. W. Burroughs served as Aide do Camp to General Littler in the Sutlej campaign in 1846 and
was present at the affair of Buddiwal. Served as Assistant Adjutant General of Division in the Punjaub cam¬
paign of 1848-49, and was present at Ramnuggur, and with the Force under General Wheeler at the capture of the
heights of Dulla (Medal).
'* General H. W. Blake served during the insurrection in Canara in 1837. Also the rebellion in the Golcon-
dah Zemindary in 1848.
'* Lieut.General W. F. Nuthall served in 1852-53; drew together three outposts of the Arracan Battalion in tho
Aeng Pass with which he surprised and captured the Norigan stockade at the summit of the Pass. Has received
the thanks of the Governor General on several following occasions :—for services with the Pegu Light Infantry—in
expelling Marauding Bands in the Rangoon district in 1S53, in Pegu district in 1853-54, and in Tharawaddy district
in 1854 (Brevet of Major, Medal with Cla.sp for Pegu).
'6 Lieut.General A. R. Manson served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present at the siege and sur¬
render of Mooltan, and storm and capture of the town (Medal with Clasp). Persian campaign of 1856-57, including
the storm and capture of Reshire, surrender of Bushire, and battle of Kooshab (Medal with Clasp). "Commanded
his Regiment at the action with the rebels under Tantia Topee, near Rajghur.
'7 Lieut.General John Forbes served with the field force in Sind and Affghanistan in 1841-42, including the ad¬
vance on Candahar, and the several operations of tho army under General Nott leading to the reoccuiiation of
Ghuznee and Cabul (Medall. Served with the force under Sir Charles N'ajjier in Sind in 1843, and was present
at the battle of Hyderabad (Medal). Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the assault and capture of Reshire,
surrender of Buahire, at Borazjoon, and battle of Kooshab—severely wounded (Medal with Clasp, and CS.).
Served with the Central India Field Force from the siege of Ra»ghur to the fall of Calpee (Medal with Clasp)!
Commanded the rear guard from Etora to Deopoora when attacked by the rebel army and which he held in checij
until the baggage was safely escorted into camp.
'8 Lieut.General J. C. Innes served during the Shekawattee campaign. Also in the Bundlecund insurrection.
8" Lieut.General G. S. Montgomery commanded a field detachment in the Ahmednuggur Zilla in the suppression
of Bheels in 1857-58, and was present in two engagements—severely wounded, and horse shot. Served in the
Indian mutiny campaign (Brevet Lt.Colouel, Medal).
