In the event of the Staff Officer of Pensioners being subject to additional expense in consequence of his employ¬
ment in aid of the Civil Power at a distance from head-quarters, he will also receive a further allowance of 5».
a day while necessarily detainedfrom home, together with the amount of travelling charges thus incurred by him.
CONTIITGENT ALLOWANCES.
For less than 100 enrolled men, one shilling a day ; loo and under 150, one shilling and sixpence a day; 150 and
under 200, two shillings a day; for 200 and upwards, two shillings and sixpence a day; Officers with Brevet rank
have two shillings a day in addition.
War Services of Staff Officers of Pensioners.
' Major E. Rogers served in temporary command of a Detachment 3rd West India Regiment in defence of
Lower Combo, Gambia, in Feb. 1864 against hostile native factions, and was emploj^ed by the Governor of the
Gambia on diplomatic service in conjunction with the Goveraor of Sierra Leone and Commodore Eardley-Wilmot,
for which he received official thanks. Served as Brigade Adjutant in charge of guns in the expedition under
Lt.Colonel Harley up the River Gambia in June 1864, and was favorably noticed. Served with the expeditionary
force under Brigadier General Harley in British Honduras in February and March 1867, and commanded a Flying
Column detached for the destruction of the Indian village San Josd, on which occasion his detachment made a
forced march of 32 miles in 11 hours across very difficult country (thanked by the Governor). Was subsequently
appointed Brigade Major to the united Force, and was mentioned in despatches.
2 Major Sweeney served with the 12th Regiment in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal).
' Lt.Colonel Fresson served as Adjutant with the Left Wing gSth Regiment in the Peshawur Expeditionary Force
on the Euzofzie Frontier under Sir S. Cotton in April and May 1858, including the destruction of Chinglie, also en¬
gaged with the Hindostanee fanatics on the Heights of Sittana on 4th May (Med.al with Clasp).
■* Lt.Colonel Egerton Todd served in the 8ist Regiment in the Indian Mutiny of 1857-58 (Medal).
^ Lt.Colonel Law served with the 31st Regt. throughout the campaign of 1842 in AEfghanistan under General
Pollock (Medal), including the actions of Mazeena, Tezeen, and JugduUuck, occupation of Cabool (contused) and
the different minor engagements leading to and from it. Also served the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the
battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, Buddiwal, Aliwal, and Sobraon, in all of which he commanded a Company (Medal
and three Clasps). Was severely wounded at the battle of Sobraon—ball lodged in his body, and mentioned in
despatch, being second in command of the Regiment during the action.
'^ Major Browne served with the 98th Regiment in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal).
'♦ Major Macgregor served with the 82nd Regiment in the N.W. Provinces in suppressing the Indian mutiny in
1857-58, and was present at the second relief of Lucknow, defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore, actions of
Kala Nuddee and Khankur, siege of the Jail and subsequent operations at Shahjehanpore, affairs of Mahomdee
and Bunkagaon (Medal with Clasp).
15 Lt.Colonel Woods served with the Buffs in the action of Punniar, 29th December 1843 (Bronze Star).
'" Lt.Colonel Beere served with the 8th Regiment in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857, including the siege
and capture of Delhi, and was severely wounded at the assault of the city (Medal with Clasp).
'^ Lt.Colonel Ussher served the campaign of 1844-45 in the Southern Mahratta country with the 22nd Regiment, and
was present at the investment and capture of the Forts of Panulla and Pownghur. Also served in India durinn-the
mutiny of 1857-58 (Medal), and was attached to the Convalescent Depot at Murree in the Punjaub when the station
was attacked by a large force of hill men on the night of ist September 1857. Was onboard the troop-ship Eastern
Monarch when she blew up and was destroyed by fire at Spithead on 3rd June 1859.
" Major Charlton served with the 81 st Regiment in the Indian mutiny of 1857-58 (Medal).
"" Lt.Colonel Chandler served with the loth Regiment in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battle of
Sobraon (Medal). Also the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the whole of the siege operations before Mooltan
affair of the gth September (wounded), storming the enemy's strongly-entrenched position, carrying of the Heights'
before Mooltan and surrender of the fortress, and was afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with'^two
Clasps).
21 Captain Michael Curry served in the mutiny in India in 1857-58, and was present when the 81st Regiment
under Colonel Renny, disarmed at Mean Meer one Regiment of Native Cavalry and three Regiments of'Native
Infantry, all disaffected and ripe for mutiny (Medal).
-^ Lt.Colonel Wright served with the 83rd Regiment in suppressing the Indian mutiny, and was present at the
affair of Sanganeer, and defeat of the Gwalior rebels at Kotaria on the 14th August 1858 (Medal with Clasp).
^^ Major Searle was at the action of Ecknaes in the Gulf of Finland 20th May 1854, in action with the forts of
Bomarsund 15th August, and at the surrender of Port Prasto on the i6th August. Served with the Baltic expedition
in 1855, and in the mortar-boat flotilla during the bomljardmentof Sweahorg (Medal).
^' Lt.Colonel Godley landed with the 56th Regiment in the Crimea on the 25th August 1855, served at the sice of
Sebastopol, and present at the final assault (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). °
^0 Major Clements was present at the attack on the batteries a,t Petropaulovski on 31st August, landed on 4th
Sept. at an attack on the same batteries (severely wounded), and was at the capture of two Russian vessels on 7th
Sept. 1854. Served in the China war of 1857-58, including the blockade of the Canton river, storm and capture of
Canton, expedition to the North, and landed at the bombardment and capture of the forts at the mouth of the Peiho
river on 20th May, as Acting Adjutant and Qr.Master (Medal with two Clasps).
2* Lt.Colonel Wolfe served with the 2nd Queen's Royals in the campaign of i860 in China, including the advance
on Pekin (Medal with Clasp).
" Major Lewis served with the Grenadier Company of the 94th Regiment in the action with and destruction of a
desperate band of insurgent fanatics at Teermanam Coonettos in Malabar.
'* Major Moore served with the 34th Regiment in the Crimean campaign from loth August 1855, includin"- the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assault of the Redan on 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medial)
Served also in the Indian campaigns in 1857-59, including the actions at Cawupore on 26th 27th and 28th November
1857, capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Luoknow, and defeat of the rebels at Bootwul (Medal with
Clasp).
•*> Lt.Colonel Woodall served in the 57th Regiment in the New Zealand war in 1861. Also in that of 1863 includins
the capture of Katikara (Medal). ' *
" Lt.Colonel Brooke served with Captain Lillie's Detachment in defeating the insurgents at Matal^ on 29th July
during the suppression of the rebellion in the Kandian Provinces in 1848.
*3 Lt.Colonel Reid served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 (Medal), served also with the Flank Companies oSth
Regiment in the force under Sir Colin Campbell at the forcing of the Kohat Pass in February 1850. Served in the
Peshawur Expeditionary Force on the Buzofzie Frontier under Sir Sydney Cotton in April and May 1858 and at
the affair with the Hindostanee fanatics on the Heights of Sittana on the 4th May (Medal with Clasp). '
" Lt.Colonel Domville was landed in 1845 with a Detachment of Royal Marines 'for the protection of British property
at Monte Video. He was there detached for service in the Parana, and was present at the attack and capture of the
Forts of Obligado, and forcing the passage of the river. Commanded a Detachment at Rat Island, off Monte "Video
and was at the defence of Colonia in the River Plate in March and April 1847. '
«' Major Spofforth served vrith the 59th Regiment during the operations before and capture of Canton ini857 (Medal
with Clasp).
*6 Lt.Colonel Chapman served with the 29th Regiment throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49 includinir
the passag* of the Chenab, and battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
