' Sir John Gough served during the war in China of 1840-42 as Deputy Quarter Ma.ster General and head of the
department; was present at almost every engagement during the expedition, and received the brevet rank of Major
and Lt.Colonel, together with the Companionship of the Bath (Medal). Served in the Gwalior campaign of 1843-44
as Military Secretary to the Commander in Chief in India, and was present at the battle of Maharajpore (Bronze
Star). Appointed a Brigadier in the Army of the Sutlej 1845-46; commanded the 2nd Brigade of Cavalry at the
battles of Moodkee and Ferozeshah, and ofHciated as Quarter Master General of H.M.'s Forces in India at the
battle of Sobraon, where he was severely wounded (Medal and two Clasps). Served the Punjaub campaign of
1848-49 as Quarter Master General of H.M.'s Forces in India, and was present at the battles of ChiUianwallah and
Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps), appointed Aide de Camp to the Queen with Brevet rank of Colonel.
2 Colonel Nugent served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the Scots Greys, including the battles of Bala-
klava, Inkerman, and Tch(3i-naya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
' Captain Donnithorne served through the New Zealand war of 1864-65 as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, and
was present in the campaign on the Waikato river, expedition to Taura-nga, action of the Gate Pah, campaign in
the Wanganui district, and with the expeditions of the Movable Column on the River Patea (Medal).
7 Lieut. Hippisley served with the King's Dragoon Guards in the Zulu war of 1879 in the squadron under Major
Marter, includmg the cavalry affair at Erzungayan.
8 Quarter Master Liddle served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the Scots Greys, including the
affair of M'Kcnzie's Farm, battles of Ealaklava, Inkerman, and Tchemaya, night attack on outposts on 17th Feb.,
siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Turkish Medal, and Medal for distinguished conduct in the
field).
