' General Faber served with the 49th Regt. throughout the war with China (Medal), and was present at the
first and second captures of Chusan, storm and capture of the heights above Canton, attack and capture of Amoy
and of Chinae (mentioned in despatches, and Brevet of Major), occupation of Ningpo and repulse of the night
attack, attack and capture of the enemy's entrenched camp on the heights of Segoan, of Chapoo, and of Woosung,
and investment of Nankin. Served in the Indian campaign in 1857-58 in command of the 53rd Regt., and was
liresent at the battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec. 1857, and in the afifair at Seraighat (mentioned in despatches. Medal).
^ Colonel Cobbe served as a Volunteer with the Field Force throughout the siege and capture of Delhi in
1657 (Medal with Clasp).
» Lt.Colonel Tompson served with the 17th Regiment in the Crimea from the 7th Feb. 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol and assaults of the Redan on the i8th June and 8th Sept.—dangerously wounded (mentioned

' Major Joseph Gates Travers served with the 17th Regiment in the Crimea from the 17th Feb. 1855, including the
siege of Sebastopol the assaults of the Redan on the i8th June (mentioned in Lord West's despatch for " gallant
conduct") and 8th Sept.; was also at the bombardment and surrender of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, Knight of
the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
" Major Creagh served with the 86th Regiment in the Central India Field Force in 1858, and was present at
the battle before and at the capture of the town and fortress of Gwalior (Medal with Clasp).
'* Captain Turner served with the 50th Regiment in New Zealand from the 15th Nov. 1863 to 1866, and was pre¬
sent at the assault and capture of Rangiawhia, repulse of the enemy's attack on the camp at Nukumaru, and the
affair of Kakamarea (Medal).

' Lieut. General Edwards served with the i8th Royal Irish throughout the war in China (Medal), and was
7uesent at the attack upon Canton, the taking of Amoy, Chapoo,Woosung, Shanghai, and Chin Kiaug Foo, and at the
concluding operations before Nankin ; was employed on the Staff during the war, and afterwards appointed by Lord
Oough Assistant Quarter Master General to the Force in China. He served also with the 18th in the Burmese war
from July 1852 to the conclusion; was at the taking of Promo, and employed on a detached command for six months,
when the proWnces of Pa-doung and Kanghein were cleared of the enemy, after several skirmishes and severe marches
by the Detachments under his command. In January 1853 he led a party on special service from Prome to Arracan,
for which service the Government of India and General Godwin recorded their approbation (Medal with ClasD for
Pegu, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel). Served in the Crimea from the 30th Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, CJS., Brevet of Colonel, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 3rd Class of the Medjidie,
;ind Turkish Medal). Commanded the Brigade at Mhow, at the termination of the mutiny in 1858-59, and received
the thanks of the Governor General in Council for the promptness of measures whereby the rebels under Tantia
Topee were prevented entering Kandeish.
' Lt.Colonel Gregorie served with the 23rd Fusiliers in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58 as Adjutant of the
23rd Fusiliers, and was present at the relief of Lucknow and also at its subsequent capture (Medal with two Clasps).
' Colonel Baker served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Crimea from 30th Dec. 1854, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol, mentioHCd in despatches, and awarded the Sardinian medal for " gallantry displayed at the attack of
the Cemetery and suburbs ofSebastopolon the 18th June 1855" (Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
Servedin India during the mutiny (in 1857) with the Field Force under Colonel Beatson. Served in New Zealand during
the Waikato and Wanganui campaigns of 1864-66 first as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General and subseijuently as
.\ssistant Adjutant General; was present at the action at Rangiawhia as Acting Assistant Military Secretary to
Lt.General Sir Duncan Cameron (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major); was Staff Officer to the Force under
Major General Carey at the attack and capture of Orakau—mentioned in despatches for "gallantry and untiring
energy and zeal evinced " (Medal). Accompanied Sir Garnet Wolseley to the Gold Coast in September 1873 and
r-erved throughout the Ashanti war of 1873-74 as Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General, including the
siction of Essaman, relief of Abrakrarapa, battle of Amoaful, battle of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie. Also
in addition performed the duties of Chief of the Staff from the 14th October to the 17th December. Was mentioned
in despatches by Sir Garnet Wolseley in the following terms :—" The duties of Chief of the Staff were ably carried
out to my entire satisfaction by Major Baker, A.A.G., to whose untiring energy I owe much of the success that
has attended all our operations. In my opinion he possesses every quality that is valuable in a Stafl' Officer"
(several times mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, CB., Medal with Clasp).
5 Major Adamson served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Crimea from the 20th Aug. 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
' Major Dawson served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Crimea, subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol, from
3rd October 1855 to the end of the Russian war. Served in the New Zealand war from 1863 to 1866 and was
present at the engagement at Nukumaru (mentioned in despatches) and other minor engagements.
' Captain Thacker served in the New Zealand war of 1863-66 (Medal).
'" Major Hugh Shaw served with the i8th Royal Irish in the Crimea subsequent to the fall of Sebastopol
from December 1855 until the end of the Russian war in 1856. Served also in the New Zealand war in 1864-06,
and was present in the engagements at Nukumaru (mentioned in despatches, Victoria Cross, and Medal).
" Major Burke served with the 88th Regiment in the Crimea from the nth August 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol and attack of the Redan on the 8th Sept. (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medtil). Served
in suppression of the Indian mutiuy in 1857-58, including the operations at Cawnpore from 26th Nov. to 6th Dec.
1857, assault and cajiture of the Fort at Birwah—mentioned in despatches (Medal).
'^ Captain Keays-Yoiuig served with the Bomljay Rifles the Persian campaign of 1856-57, including the stormingo'
Reshire, surrender of Bushire, night attack on British Rear Guard, and battle of Kooshab (Medal with Clasp). Also
with the same Regiment avid the Poonuh Irregular Horse, the Indian campaigns of 1857-59, present in operations
against the Bheels in the Nassick and Kandeish Hills ; commanded during four months early in 1858 the frontier
post of Rajapore ; afterwards with the Satpoora Field Force against the Rohillas and Bheels in the Vindhya moun¬
tains; and subsequently in 1858 59 on the Divisional Staff of Sir John Michel against the rebels under Tantia
Topee in Centra! India (Medal).
'* Captain Wray served with the i8th Royal Irish in the New Zealand war of 1863-66, and was present at the
affair at Kerikeri on 21st July 1863, and as Adjutant at the capture of the Pusalin Pah on 7th Jan. 1866 (Medal)
15 Captain C. Dawson served with the i8th Royal Irish in New Zealand, and commanded a Company throughout
the Waikato and Wangaimi campaign.s from August 1863 to May 1866 ; commanded Woodall's Redoubt during the
West Coast campaign from February 1865 to March 1866; was engaged in the following operations, viz.—expedition
to Paparata, relief of the Mauku Stockade, occupation of Mere Mere, and commanded the Pokenoe Patrol wheu
attacked by the enemy on the morning of the 2nd Sept. 1863 (mentioned in Sir Duncan Cameron's despatches for
gallantry. Medal).
'» Captain A. J. A. Jackson served with the i8th Royal Irish throughout the New Zealand war cf 1863-65, and was
present at the affair of the 26th Nov. 1863 in the Wairoa Bush, siege and capture of Orakau, and actions at Nukumaru
on 24th and 25th Jan. 1865 (Medal).
" Captain Batts served in New Zealand during the Waikato and Wanganui Campaigns from 1863 to i8f6, and
was prpaent at the affair at Keri Keri (mentioned in despatches), and engagement at Ketimarai (Sltdal .
