1 General MacKinnon served as Assistant Quarter ilaster General at the Cape of Good Hope in the Kaffir war
of 1846-47, and as Colonel on the Staff in command of the 2nd Division of the forces in the field in the Kaffir war
of 1851-52 (Medal).
2 Colonel Willis was present with General Havelock's Field Force in the actions of Oonao and Buseerut Gunge on 29th
July 1857; commanded the 84th Regiment in the actions of Buseerut Gunge on the 5th Aug., Boorbeake Chowkee on
12th Aug., at Bithoor on the i6th Aug., at Muugawnr on 21st Sept., at Alnmbagh on 23rd Sept., and relief of Luck-
now on 25th Sept. (wounded in left knee and right thigh) ; commanded the right Column atthe storming of the Him
Khaimah on i6thNov., and was thanked in division orders by General Havelock. Was with General Outram's Force
at the Alumbagh from 26th Nov. 1857 to 9th March 1858—commanded the 84th up to 24th Jan.; present at the fall of
Lucknow; accompanied General Lugard's Force, and present at the relief of Azimghur; proceeded with Brigadier
Douglas's column in pursuit of the rebel cliief Kocr Sing, and present in the actions of 17th and 20th April (men¬
tioned in despatches, CiJ., and Brevets of Major and Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps, and grant of a year's service
for Lucknow).
'Majors Collins and Hale, and Captains Salwey, Turner,Wolferstan, and Wade, Lieutenants Eden, Burton,
Brimker (as Adjutant), Hemphill, Wilson, Clarke, and E. M. Dougherty served with the 26th Cameronians in
the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 (Medal).
* Major Hamilton served with the 31st Regiment in the Crimea from 22nd May to 15th June 1855, including the
siege of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served throughout the campaign in the north of
China in 1S60, including the action of Sinho, and storming of Tangku (Medal with Clasp for the Taku Ports). Also
during the operations against the Taepings in the vicinity of Shanghai in April and May 1862, resulting in the ta'King
of the stockade of Nanhsiang, capture by escalade of the walled cities of Kadin, Tsinpoo, and Tsolin, the fortified
town of Najow, the affair at Nanhsiang, and relief of Kadin. Served with the 26th Cameronians in the Abyssinian
campaign in 1868 (Medal).
5 Captain Coote served with the 83rd Regiment in suppressing the Indian mutiny and was present at the affair of
Sanganeer, and defeat of the Gwalior rebels at Kotaria on the J4th Aug. 1858 (Medal). Sei-ved with the 26th Camo-
ronians in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 (Medal),
^ Captain Phillips served with the 40th Regiment throughout the New Zealand war of 1S63-66, in Taranaki and
Waikato, including the afl'iiir near Poutoko, expedition to Kaitaka (attached to the 57th Regiment), assault and
capture of Rangariri, investment of Paterangi, and skirmish at Waiaii (Medal),
8 Quarter Master Topp served with the 75th Regiment in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857 from the cuthreak
at Meerut on the 12th May, including the battle of Budleekeserai and subsequent operations, siege storm and cap-
tui'c of Delhi (Medal with Clasp). Served with the 26th Cameroaians in the Abyssinian campaign in j868 (Medal).
