1 Sir Arthur Lawrence commanded the 2nd Batt. Rifle Brigade throughout the Eastern camijaign of 1854 up to
Sth November; the First Brigade Light Division from 5th Nov. 1854 to sth Feb. 1855 ; and the 2nd Brigade 2nd Divi¬
sion from 25th Dec. 185s till the end of the Crimean war, and was present at the battles of Alma (horse killed) and
Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, C'jB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, 3rd Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
" Colonel Hood was employed in the year 1846 as Secretary on a special public mission to the Argentine Republic
to settle the difference on the part of the combined Powers of England and France, and General Rosa, the Governor
of Buenos Ayres. Served in the Crimea with the Bulfs from the ist May 1855 to the Sth January 1856, includiiigtho
siege and fall of Sebastopol (wounded), and commanded the ladder party of the Buffs at the assault of the Redan
on 8th Sept.—wounded; commanded the Regiment from 13th Sept. to 27th Dec. 1855, and marched it into the Kara-
beluaia on 17th Sept. with Colours, &c., these being the first English colours that entered Sebastopol (Medal with
Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^ Lt.Colonel Whitehead served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimea from the 20th Nov. 1854, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and was of the storming party at the jissault of the Redan on the Sth September—men¬
tioned in despatches for "distinguished conduct" (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish iledal).
^ Captain Hill served as a Midshipman in the Indian Navy in the Burmese war in 1853 (Modal with Clasp for Pegu).
^ Major Young received the special thanks of the Commander in Chief for services rendered to the civil authori¬
ties during the Chartist riots in South Wales in 1839. Served as Adjutant 22nd Regiment at the capture and
destruction of the villages in the Boree Valley on the Peshawur Frontier in Nov. 1853 (Medal with Clasp).
'•* Quarter Master Munro served in the Crimea from 13th June 1855, including the expedition to Kertch, siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served at the siege and captui'O of Kotah on 30th March
1858 (Medal with Clasp).
