1 Lord George Pa get served in tho Eastern campaign of 1834-55 ; commanded the 4th Light Dragoons at the battle
of Ahna, and in the Light Cavalrj- charge of Balaklava. Commanded tho Light Cavalry Brigade at the battles of
Inkerman and Tchernaya, and on the expedition to Eupatoria and operations thence with General D'AUonville.
Commanded for a time the Cavalry Division in 1855 (Medal with four Clasps, Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sar¬
dinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the Medjidie).
" Lt.Colonel Peyton served as an Engineer Officer on tho Peshawar Frontier in 1854-55, and remodelled the Forts
of Michnee, Shubkudder, and Abozai, between the Khyber Pass and Gabool river, in front of an enemy, his men
having on more than one occasion been shot down at their work, and his predecessor Lieut. Bulnois of the Bengal
Engineers killed in discharge of that duty; was present at every engagement which took iilace with the Hill Tribes
during the above period. Received the thanks of Government for special services on the frontier of Thibet. Served
during the Indian mutiny of 1857-58 and nan-owly escaped falling into the hands of the Sealkote mutineers at the
engag'enient on the Ravee under General Nicholson ; was present at the Peshawur outbreak as 2nd in Command of
th(3 18th Puniaub Irregulars, the Commanding Officer, the Adjutant, and the Doing Duty Officer, the only other
European officers present, being all three severely wounded (Medal). Lt.Colonel Peyton has passed the Interpreter's
Examination in Hindostanee and taken degrees of high proflcienc.v in the Oordoo and Persian languages at tho
Colleges of Calcutta and Madras, and received the reward—;£4oo.
