121 War Services of Retired Lieutenant Colonels.
Booniah Pass 24th Dec. 1850, to the conclusion of the war in 1853 (Medal). Was placed by
Sir Harry Smith in command of the isolated post of Fort White in tlie enemy's country on the
28th Dec. 1850 ; caused the post to be stockaded, and with his party of 120 men defended it
on the 3rd January 1851, against a force of 1000 Kaffirs under Sandilly, Auta, and other chiefs,
who were defeated with severe loss, for which service he and his garrison were complimented in
General Orders. Was afterwards present at both affairs at the Waterliloof, and commanded
the Regt. at the first attack.
128 Lieut.Coloncl Marshall served the Egyptian campaign of 1801 ; at the siege and capture
of Copenhagen in 1807 ; the campaign of 1808-9 in Portugal and Spain, including the battle of
Corunna ; Walcheren Expedition in 1809, and subsequent campaigns in the Peninsula until the
end of that war in 1814, including the battles of Bnsaco, Fuentes d'Onor, and Salamanca, siege
of Burgos, wounded at the capture of the hornwork of the Castle wlien in command of two com¬
panies, and mentioned in dispatches, battles of Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, and Toulouse (severely
wounded), besides various minor engagements and skirmishes. Served also the canii)aign of
1815, and was severely wounded at the battle of Quatre Bras—once in the leg, with loss of an
arm. Served with local rank of Colonel in Canada from 1838 to termination of the Rebellion
in 1839. He has received the Turkish Gold Medal for Egypt, the War Medal with eight Clasps,
and the Waterloo Medal.
130 Lt.Colonel Maude served the Eastern campaign of 1854 in command of a troop of Royal
Horse Artillery, including the affairs of Bulganac and M'lvenzie's Farm, tlie battles of the Alma
and Balaklava (dangerously wounded and horse shot), and siege of Sehastopol (Medal and Clasps,
CB., .5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
131 Lt.Colonel Hon. J. P.Maxwell served with the 50th Regl. the Eastern campaign up to
3 Nov. 1854, including the battle of Alma and siege of Sebastopol,—severely injured in the
head by a round shot in the trenches in Octolier (Modal and two Clasps, Brevet Lt.Colonel, 5th
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
132 Lt.Colonel Mayors served with the 86th Regt. during the Indian Rebellion of 1857-58, and
was present at the disarming of four companies of the 27th Bombay N.I. Served with the
Central India field force under Sir lluijh Rose, and was present at the battle of Koonch and
operations before Calpee (Medal and Clasp).
133 Lt.Colonel Maynard served with the 88th Regt. at the siege of Sebastopol, the attack on
the Quarries 7th Juno (severely wounded), and attacks on the Redan on the 18th June and 8th
Sept. (Medal and Clasp, Brevet Major, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, 5th Class of the Medjidie).
134 Lf.Colonel Mockler served as Captain in the Anglo-Spanish Legion, and v as present at
the operations on the heights of Arlaban in Alava on the 16th, 17th, and 18th Jan. 1836, in the
general actions in front of San Sebastian on the 6th May (JItdal), 1st Oct. 1836, 10th, loth,
and 16th March (wounded), storm and capture of Irun 16th and 17th May 1837 (Medal), be-
sidi's several skirmishes.
r35 Lt.Colonel James Miller served with the 11th Hussars in the Crimea from 29th July to
19th Ang-nsi 1855, and has the Medal and Clasp for Sebastopol, and theTurkisIi Aledal.
130 Lieut.Colonel Thomas Miller served in the 40th Rrgt. at the capture of Manora and sur¬
render of Kurrachee, Lower Scinde, in Feb. 1839. lie served with the lUth Regt. in the Punjaub
campaign of 1848-9, including the whole of the siege operations before Mooltan and surrender
of tlie fortress: was Major of Brigade at thr. repulse of the enemy's night-attack on the British
camp at Muttee Thol on 17th Aug.: commanded the reserve of the Regt. at the storming of the
heiglits before Mooltan on 27th Dec. 1848. He was afterwards present at the battle of Goojerat
(Medal and two Clasps).
137 Lt.Colonel Mollan served in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, commanded the 7jth
Regt. with Outram's force at Alumbagh, from Dec. 1857 to Peb. 1858, including repulse of
attacks on 12th and 16th Jan. and minor affairs. Served as Brigads Major with the
RiHe Brigade at the siege and capture of Luoknow, and actions of Koorsoe, Baree, Simree,
Nawabgunge (horse killed by round shot), and Sultanpore, operations terminating in the
passage of the Goomtee on 28th Aug., action at Daodpore and capture of the enemy's guns,
surrender of the forts of Ameethie and Shunkapore (frequently mentioned in despatches,
Medal and Clasp, Brevet Lt. Colonel, and CB.).
138 Lt.Colonel Molloy served in the Peninsula v/ith the Rifle Brigade, and was present at the
battles of Roleia, Vimiera, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, and Toulouse, for
which he has received the War Medal with eight Clasps. He served also the campaign of 1815,
and was severely wounded at Waterloo.
130 Lt.Colonel the Hon. H. M. Monckton served with the 29th Regf. throughout the Piinjaub
campaign of 1818-49, and was present at the passage of the Chenah, and battles of Chillian-
wallah (wounded) and Goojerat, and pursuit of the Sikhs with the force under Sir Walter Gilbert
(Medal and two Clasps). Served with tlie army of the East, attached to the4lh Light Dragoons,
and afterwards with the rank of Major in command of the Sultan's " Royal Regt. ot Constantino¬
ple," with the cavalry under Major General Shirley, and has received the Turkish War Medal.
140 Lt.Colonel Montgomery, when on passage to India in the transport Briton, v\iili troops,
was wrecked on the lesser Andaman, in Nov. 1844, and remained on that island 5] days suffer¬
ing very severe privations. lie served in the 80th Regt. throughout the Sutlej campaign of
1845-6, including the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah, and Sobraon (Medal and two Clasps).
Also in the Burmese war of 1852 (Medal) including the capture of Martaban (wounded) : the
operations before Rangoon on the 12th, 13th, and 14th April, and the capture of the Great
Dagon Pagoda (with the storming party), and capture of Prome.
141 Lt.Colonel Montresor served with the Grenadier Guards in the Crimea from 29 Dec.
1854, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).
143 Lt.Colonel Mure served with the 60th Rifles in the Kaffir war of 1851-53 (Medal). Served
