Campaign in 1868 (mentioned in dispatches, CB.).
60 Colonel M'latyre served in the Persian campaign of 1857; commanded the 78th High¬
landers on the expedition to Borazjoon, in the nig'lit attack and in the battle of Kooshal), and
present at the bombardment of Mohumrah (mentioned in despatches, Medal and Clasp). Accom¬
panied Havelock's force in Sept. for the relief of Lucknow, and was in the actions during that
advance ; on the morning that the force entered the City, was thrown into the Alumbagh with
250 men for its defence from 2oth Sept. to 7th Oct., was surrounded by the enemy and all com¬
munication cut off, WHS then reinforced from Cawnpore by 250 men and two guns, and again on
25th Oct. by 500 men and four guns ; held the position, still surrounded by the enemy, for 52
days until relieved by the approaoli of the Commander in Chief's force (horse shot on 25th Sept.,
mentioned in despatches). Proceeded with the Commander in Chief's force for the relief of the
garrison in the Residency, and commanded the advance guard in the attacks on tho Dilkoosha
and La Martiniere (mentioned in despatches as " conspicuous" in attack on La Martiniere). Was
with Outram's force during the re-occupation for three months of the Alumbagh, and present at
the repulse of all the attacks made on that position. Present with Brigadier Camiibell's force
in the third advance on Lucknow, and in the operations of that force until the final capture of
the City (Medal and Clasps, CB., and a year's service for Lucknow).
Cl Colonel Warden served with the I9th Regt. the Eastern Campaign of 1854-55, including
the battles of Alma (severely wounded) and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol (wounded) ; was of
the party that first held the Quarries ; commanded 400 of the 97th Kegt. in the trendies at
the assault of the_18th June ; succeeded to the command of the 19th Regt. at tlie storming of
the Redan on the 8th Sept. (severely wounded), and took the Brigade out of action (Medal
and three Clasps, Brevets of Major and Lt.Col., Knight of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and
Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
02 Colonel Thompson served as a Captain in the British Legion, and was engaged at Hernani,
30th Aug. 1835 ; at Arlaban, 16th, 17tli, and 18th Jan.; and the action before San Sebastian,
5th May, 1836, when he was severely wounded in tlie hip and the hand (K. S. F. and Medal).
Served the campaign of tiie Punjaub in the 14th Light Dragoons; was engaged at Ramnuggur
(Jiorse wounded), 22nd Nov., 1848, at Chillianwallah, 13tli Jan., and at Goojerat, 21st Feb.,
1849 (Medal with two Clasps). Present also at the crossing of the Chenab, Jhelum, and
Indus ; at the surrender of the Seik army at Rawul Pindee, the capture of tho Bridge of Boats
at Attock, and pursuit of the Affghans to Pesliawur.
C3 Colonel Carleton served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimean Campaign from the
18th Oct. 1854, including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebas¬
topol (Medal with three Clasps, 5lh Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
C4 Colonel Scudamore served with the 4th Lt. Drs. tliroughout the campaign of 1838-39
in Affghanistan, including the siege and capture of Ghuznee (Medal). Served with the I4th Lt.
Drs. throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of Ramnuggur
(wounded), passage of the Chenab, battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat—dangerously
wounded (Medal and Clasps). Commanded the Regt. during the campaign of 1858 in Central
India under Sir Hugh Rose and was present at the siege and capture of Rahutghur, action of
Barodia, relief of Saugor, capture of Gurrakota; commanded the detached force sent against
Malthone ; present at the siege and cui)ture of Jbansi and commanded the outpo^ts during the
investment; present at the battle of Kooncli and all the affairs during the advance on Calpee
including the action of Golowlie; also at the action of Morar and recapture of Gwalior ; also
commanded a flying column for'^six months in the Gwalior and Jhansi districts (three times
mentioned in dispatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, CB., Medal and Clasp).
CO Colonei Hon. R. W. P. Curzon served as Aide de Camp to Sir George Cathcart in the
Kaffir war in 1852-3 (Medal), for which service he was promoted to the Brevet rank of Major.
Served at the siege of Delhi in 1857, as Acting Quarter Master General of the Queen's troops
(Colonel, CB., Medal with Clasp).
67 Sir Thomas M'Mahon served with the 9th Lancers in the Sutlej campaign in 1848, and
was present at the battle of Sobraon (Medal). Served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as
A.Q.IVLG. to the Cavalry Division, including the battles of the Alma, Balaklava, and Tcher-
naya, and siege of Sebastopol ; sewed also the campaign of 1855 in command of the 5th Dragoon
Guards (Medal and Clasps, CK., Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie),
68 Colonel Alex. Maxwell served in the Critnca from 8 Nov. 1854, and commanded the 46th
Eegt. at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, CB., Knight of the Legion of
Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
69 Colonel Low served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, Inkerman, and Tohernaya, and siege of Sebastopol, also present with tho Light
Cavalry Brigade at Eupatoria; at Inkerman he commanded the Regiment (Medal and Clasps,
Brevet Lt.Col., Knight of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, 4th Class of
the Medjidie).
70 Sir Edward Greathed served with the 8th Regt. at the siege of Delhi in 1857 (in command
from 30th June to the end of the siege), present at the repulse of Sorties on the 9th, 14th, and
18th July, and commanded the .3d Brigade during the repulse of the enemy's attack on 23d
July ; commanded the Column sent to occupy the Khoodsiabagh and Ludlow Castle on 7th
Sept. by which operation the batteries were advanced to within 180 yards of the walls ; led the
Regt. to the assault and served with it in the City ; on the 24th Sept. left Delhi in command
of a Movable Column and defeated the enemy at Bolundshur, Allyghur, and Agra ; commanded
the 3d Brigade of the Army under Lord Clyde from 10th Nov. 57 to 9th Jan. 58 and present
at the action of Dilkoosba in Lucknow during the operations resulting in the relief of the
garrison ; commanded advanced pickets at Cawnpore from 30th Nov. to 7th Dec., including
the affair of ttie 2d action of the 6lh Dec, also present in the action of Khudagunj and
occupation of Futtehghur {CB., and promoted Colonel for distinguished service in the field).
