War Services of the Colonels. 54
28 Colonel Forbes served with the 91st Kegiment in the last Kaffir war (Medal).
29 Colonel Norcott served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55; held the independent com-
mand of a wing of the 2nd Batt. Rifle Brigade at the battle of the Alma—horse killed- •
(markedly named in the first Dispatch"), as also before Sebastopol on its first bombardment.
From 1st February 1855 he commanded the 1st Battalion engaged in the siege operations (Medal
and Clasps, Brevets of Lt.Col. and Colonel, Aide de Camp to the Queen, CJi., Officer of the
Legion of Honor, Sardiaian and Turkish Medals, 3rd Class of the Medjidie).
30 Colonel Lysons served in Canada during the rebellion in 1838-39, including the actions
of St. Denis and St. Eustache. Was honourably mentioned in Dispatches and General Orders
on the oceasiein of the wreck of the transport Premier on 4th November 1843 and promoted in
consequence. Served the Eastern campaign of 18.54-55; was present at the battles of Alma
and Inkerman, the minor affairs of Bulganac and Mackenzie's Farm, capture of Balaklava, and
throughout the whole siege of Sebastopol; led the main column of the attack on the Red.in
by the Light Division on the 18th June, and commanded a Brigade in the latter part of the action
(slightly wounded); was engaged in the final assault of the Redan on the 8th September
(severely wounded); commanded the 2nd Brigade Light Division from October 1855 to the
end of the war (Medal and Clasps, Brevet of Colonel, CH., Officer of the Legion of Honor,
Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the Medjidie).
31 Lord Longford served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, as Assistant Adjutant General,
up to the 24ih June 1855, after which as Adjutant General, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, CB.,
Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander 2nd Class St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, 3rd
Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
32 Colonel Tudor served as Aide-de-Camp to General Grey, commanding the left wing of
the army of Gwalior, in the action of Punniar, 29 Deo, 1843 (Medal). Also served the Sutlej
campaign of 1845-6, as Aide de Camp to the same General, commanding 5th Division of the Army.
33 Colonel James Graham joined the 54thRegt. inBurmah, as a volunteer, in Dec 1824, and
was present at the carrying of the entrenched Fords of the Mahaltee River, 27th March, and at
the attack on the fortified heights of Arracan, 29th March 1825; at the latter he was wounded
in the side and face: has received the Medal and Clasp for Ava. In July 1855. Medical
Board pronounced him as "totally unfit for service in the field;" but in consideration of the
nature of hii past services he was specially promoted to a Lieut.-Colonelcy, and allowed to re¬
tire upon the full pay of that rank.
34 Sir E. R. Wetlierall served in Canada during the rebellions of 1837-38, 1838-39, and was
present in the actions of St. Charles, St. Eustache, and I'ointe Oliviere. Was shipwrecked with
the Royal Regt. in the transport " Premier." Served in the Crimea as .Assistant Quarter Master
General and was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkcrman, the siege and fall of
Sebastopol. Served at Kertch as Deputy Quarter Master General of the Turkish Contingent.
Was subsequently Director General of Land Transport in the Crimea, and was chargcel with
the reorganization of that force (Medal and four Clasps, CB., Knight of the Legion of Honor,
3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served as Deputy Q. M. General to the forces
in China in 1857. Served in India in the Mutiny of 1857-58; was Chief of the Staff" of the
Central India field force and present at Koonch, Muttra, Golowlee 20th and 22nd May (horse
shot, mentioned by Sir Hugh Rose for gallant conduct in a charge of the Camel Corps), and
Cal'pee. Commanded South Oude field force in the campaign of 1858; and commanded the
force at the attack and capture of the intrenched camp of Kamporc Kussea on 3rd Nov. (22
gun-i taken),and the subsequent operations of the campaign (Medal and Clasp).
35 Colonel Strange served with the 26ch Regt. on the China expedition (Medal), and was
present at the defence of Ningpo, at Tscke, Chapoo, Woosung, Shanghae, Chinkiangfoo, and
Nankin.
36 Colonel Payne served with the Royal Marine Brigade in the Crimea and at the surrcneler
of Kinbourn in 1855 (Medal, and Turkish Medal).
37 Colonel John Watson served with the 14th Regt. in the Crimean Campaign from 19th
Jan. to 25th Aug. 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the 18th June (Medal
and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
38 Colonel Nolloth served with the expedition to the Baltic in 1854, and as Lt.Col. of the
Battalion of Royal Marines at the bombardment and surrender of the forts of Bomarsund in
August (mentioned in despatches. Medal and Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
39 Colonel Little served with the 9th Lancers in the Sutlej campaign in 1846, including the
battle of Sobraon (Medal). Served as Brigadier in command of the Cavalry at the relief of
Lucknow, and commanded the post at Dilkoosha from 16th to 24th Nov. 1857, for which ho
received the thanks of the Commander in Chief and Governor General in Council, and CB.
Commanded the Cavalry and three troops Horse Artillery at the battle of Cawnpore and pur¬
suit of the Gwalior Mutineers on the 6tb Dec, actions at Seraighat and Khudargunge. Com¬
manded the Ist Brigade of Cavalry at the siege of Lucknow, until severely wounded by a
musket ball through the left elbow (three times mentioned in despatches, Meelal and Clasps).
40 Colonel Douglas served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 in command of the 11th
Hussars, including the affair of Bulganak, battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkcrman, and siege
of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, CJ3., Knight of the Legion of Honor, 4lh Class of the Med¬
jidie, and Turkish Medal).
51 Colonel Finucane has served in Spain, France, Italy, the Mediterranean, Jamaica, and
India. In 1814 he was with the Austrian Army in Italy and at the surrender of Genoa. He
was in several affairs in Ava during the Burmese War: also at the storming of Bhurtporc. In
the Spanish service in 1835, 36, as Lieut.-Colonel on the Staff, and has received the Cross of St.
Fernando ; also the War Medal for India with two Clasps.
