430</ Medical Department.— War Services.
11 Surgeon Major J. Jee served in the Persian war in 1857, including the night attack and battle of Kooshab, and bombard¬
ment of Mohunirah (Medal with Claspi. Served with Havelock's column in the several actions leading to and ending in the
relief of the Residency of Lucknow and subsequent defence ; with Outrani's force at Alumbagh, including the repulse of the
numerous attacks, and operations ending in the linal capture of Lucknow ; present with Brigadier Campbell's column in tlie
alfairs of 20tli and Zlst March ; also the Roliilcund campaign in 1858 and capture of Eareilly (Medal with Clasp, CB., Victoria
Cross, and a year's service for Lucknow).
12 Surgeon Major T. Best served in the field against the enemy in the Orange River Sovereignty in 1850-51, and in the Kaffir
war of 1853-5S (Medal). Served also in the New Zealand war in 18(51-66, including the attack on Gate Pah and engagement at
Te Ranga (mentioned in dispatches).
13 Doctor E. Moorhead served with the 32ud Rcgt. at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan, including the
capture of the city and surrender of the fortress (Medal and Clasp).
\i Doctor Walshe served in the expedition against the Insurgent Boers beyoml the Orange River, South Africa, in 1845.
He also acconipanled Col. Somerset's Division throughout [the Kaffir war of 1316-47, and was present in all the engage,
inenls that took place. Served in the Crimea from Jan. 1855, and was at the fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp,
Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of tlie Medjidie).
15 Surgeon Major J. Wyatt embarked in 1854 with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards on the Eastern expedition, and served
\vith it in Turkey and the Crimea until the end of the war; was present at the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkemian (horse
shot), siege and iall of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, Knight of tlie Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
16 Doctor Meikleliam served with the 51st during the war in Burmah, from April to June 1852; was on board the E. I. C.
steam sloop Sesostris during the naval action and destruction of the enemy's stockades in the Rangoon River; served
during the succeeding three days' operations in the vicinity (including tlie storming of the White House Redoubt), and at the
storm and capture of Rangoon (Medal and Clasp). Joined the Eastern expedition in March 1854, and served in I'urkey till
after the end of the war, and was present at the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on 18th June (Medal and Clasp).
Served with the 70th Regt. during the war in New Zealand in 1863.
17 Surgeon Major Allen served in the field with the Cape Mounted Riflemen during the Kaffir war of 1B4S-47, and was
present during many severe skirmishes (Medal).
18 Surgeon Major Webb served with the 10th Kegt. throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-9, including the whole of the
siege operations before, and surrender of, Jlooltan, and battle of Goojerat (Medal and two Clasps). Served with the 46th
Eegt. at the siege of Sebastopol in 1854-55 (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
19 Surgecm Major D. B. Mackinnon served with the 21st Fusiliers throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the
battles of Alma, Baluklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and expedition to Kinbourn (Medal and four Clasps,
Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Mc(\jidie, and Turkish Medal).
20 Surgeon Major A. Crocker served with the 2nd Battalion Royals in the Crimean Campaign from 23ud April 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Jledal).
21 Surgeon Major W. G. Watt served the Eastern Campaign of 1854, and up to the 24tli March 1855, with the 23rd FusiUers,
including the battles of Alma and Inkernian, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, mid
Turkish Medal).
23 Surgeon Major J. M. S. Eogo served with the Royal Artillery in the Crimea from the April bombardment of 1855 until the
final evacuation, and was in medical charge of the left siege train at the fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish
Ifedal).
23 Surgeon Major Fasson served with the .53rd Kegt. in the Sutlej campaign, and was present at Buddiwal and Aliwal
(Medal). Deserved with the 14th Lt. Drs. throughout the Puiijaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Ramnnggiir,
Cnillianwallah, and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasp^l.
24 Surgeon Major E. Gilbome sen-ed the Eastern Campaign of 1854 with the Royal Artillery, including the affairs of Bul-
ganac and M'Kenzie's Earm, battles of Alma and Balaklava, capture of Balaklava, siege of Scbastopol, and repulse of the sortie
on the 26th Oct. 1854 (Medal and Clasps, Turkish Medal, and oth Class of the Medjidie).
25 Surgeon Major Shelton landed with the 48ih Regt. in the Crimea on the Slst April 1855, and served at the siege and
fall of Sebasiopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
26 Surgeon Major J. Mee served with the 4tth Regt. throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-65, including the battles of
Ahiia and Inkennan, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served also the campaign of 1860
in the North of China, including the action of Siuho, assault and capture of the Taku Ports (Medal and Clasp).
27 Surgeon Major F. Cogan was mentioned in General Orders of 27th April 1858 by Lieut.-Gen. Lockyer commanding in
Ceylon for services " most creditable to himself and honorable to his profession " during an outbreak of cholera. He received
the promotion of Surgeon Major " for highly meritorious services during the epidemic of yellow fever in Bermuda."
28 Surgeon Major Ivey served with the army in I'urkey and Bidgaria in 1854, and in the Crimea in the alst Regt. in 1855,
including the siege of Sebastopol (Medul and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
29 Surgeon Major E. S. Protheroe served with the Royal Artillery in the Crimean Campaign from the 30th Oct. 1864, in¬
cluding the battle of Inkennan, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasjis, and Turkish Medal).
30 Doctor V. H. Baxter served with the 6th Dragoons in the Crimean Campaign from 9th March 1855, including the attack of
the 18th June, battle of the Tcliemaya, siege and tail of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, 6th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
<Medal).
31 Doctor White served in the Maori war of 1846 in New Zealand and was present at the operations in the Horakivi
Valley. Also throughout the Taranaki war of 1360-61, and was Senior Medical Officer in the field from Feb. to July
I8C0, and was twice mentioned in dispatches. Served throughout the war of 18(3-64 in the Waikalo country, and was
In Medical Charge of Brigadier tJeneral Carey's force during the three days' operations at and capture of Orakau, and
was asrain mentioned in dispatches.
32 Doctor T. Moorhead served in the Crimean campaign from 4th Nov. 1854 and was Surgeon of the 7th l^^silier3 at the
capture of the Quarries on 7th June, and assaults of the Redan on the 18th June and 8th September (Medal with Clasps, and
Turkish Medal).
33 Doctor H. Kendall served with the 4tli Lt. Drs. the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affairs of Bulganac and
M'Kenzie's Fann, battles of Alma, Balakhna, Inkennan, and Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sehastopol, and operations with the
Light Cavalry Brigade at Eupatoria under General D'.illonviUe (Medal'and four Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Sened with the
7th Hussars in the Indian campaign from Feb. 1858 to March 1859 and was present at the repulse of the enemy's attack on
the Aluniba»h, siege and capture of Lucknow, affairs of Barree and Sirsee, action of Xawabgunge, occupation' of Fyzabad,
passage of tlie Goomtee at Sultanpore, throughout the Byswan-a campaign, including the affairs of Daodpore, Kandoo K'uddee,
and Hyderghur, pursuit of Bcnlii Madho's force to the Goomtee; also the Trans-Gogra campaign, including the affair near
Churda and pursuit, takino; the fort of Meejeedia, attack on Bankee with pursuit to the Raptee, advance into Kepaul and affair
at Sitkaghat (Medal and Clasp).
34 Surgeon Major Saunders served in medical charge of the 47th Regt. the Eastern campaign of 1851-55, including the
battles of Alma and Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie on the 2Bth Oct. (Medal and Clasps,
and Turkish Medal).
35 Doctor T. Eraser served with the lOtli Hussars in the Crimean Campaign from the 17th April to the 30th Aug. 1855, in-
clncling the capture of Tchorgaun, battle of the Tchemaya, and siege of Sehastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
36 Sm'geon Major II. D. I'owler served witli the 83nd Regt. in suppressing the Indian Mutiny in 1867-69, including the
operations at Cawnpore under Windham, defeat of the Gwalior Contingent on 6tli ,Dec. 1857, action of Kala Nuddee, advance
on Futtehghur, campaign in Rohilcund, defence of Shalijclianpore (Mcdal>.
37 Surgeon Major Bobert.son served with the 40th Regt. during the War of 1860-61 in New Zealand.
38 Surgeon Major J. Small served in the Kaffir war of 1853-54 (Medal).
39 Doctor Lewins served with the 63rd Regt. the Eastern campaign of 1855 and up to the 13th Januarj-1855, including the
battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with four Clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served in
the Expedition to the North of China in 18G0 in charge of the hospital ship Mauritius, and was present at the capture of the
Taku Forts (Medal).
40 Doctor Bain served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol from 13th May 1855 (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
41 Doctor U. W. Evans served as a volunteer (his Regiment, the 16th Lancers, being at home) from the commencement of
the war in Russia until promoted in December 1854, including the battles of Alma, Balaclava, and Inkennan, and in the
trenches before Sebastopol (Medul and Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
42 Doctor Domenichetti served on the Staff of General Havelock on his first taking the field in 1857, and was present iu the
actions of Futtehpore, Aoung, Pandoo Nuddee, Cawnpore, Buseerutgunge, Bithoor, and Alumbagh, also the defence of the
