2 Lt.Colonel Appleyard served withtho 80th
in the Burmese war of 1852 (Medal), and was
present at the capture of Marlaban, operations
before Rangoon on the 12th, 13th, and 14th
April, and capture of the GreatiJagon Pagoda
with the storming party; also at tlie capture
of Prome. Served the Eastern campaign of
1854-56 with the Royal Fusiliers, and was
present at the battles of Alma (wounded)
and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol, in¬
cluding sorties on 5th April and yth May,
defence of the Quarries 7th June, and assault
the Redan ISth June—wounded (Modal
and Clasps, Brevet Major, Knight of the 1.6-
gion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).

1 Lieut.General Maunsell served with tiie 85tli Light Infantry in the Peninsula and South of France from Aug. 1813 to
tlie end of that war in 1814, including the siege of Sau Sebastian, passage of the Bidassoa, battles of Kivelle, lOtli Nov. and
Nive.Dtli, loth, and 11th Dec, and investment of Bayonne (War Medal with three Clasps). Served also in the American
war, and was slightly wounded at Bladensburg, 24th Aug.,and severely at New Orleans, 23rd Dec. 1814, and was at the
taking of Fort Bowyer. He subsequently commanded the 85th during the Canadian Rebellion.
fi ciuartermastcr Humphreys served with the Grenadiers of the 94th in the action with, and destruction of a desperate
tianil of Insurgent fanatics at Teermanam Coonettos in South Malabar in August 1849.
