212 Major Sprot served with the force under General Woodburn in the affair at Aurungabad
in 1857 (Medal); afterwards served as acting Executive Engineer of the Rajpootana Field
Force and received the commendation of General Roberts commanding, and of the Bombay
Government, for his "great energy and ability" in the construction of Barracks for the European
Troops at Neemuch.
213 Major Hutton served with the 21st Fusiliers during the latter part of 1855, and at the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, and the expedition to Kinbourn (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish
Medal). Served with the 61st Regt. at the siege, assault and capture of Delhi in 1857, in¬
cluding repulse of Sorties on 4th, 18th, and 23rd July, and 1st August—wounded (Medal and
Clasp).
214 Major Hanrahan was present at the storm and destruction of the fortified native Man-
dingo town of Sabajee on the Gambia on the 1st June 1853.
215 Major Walker served as Adjutant with a wing of the 45th Regt. in the Kaffir war of
1850-53 (Medal), and was mentioned by the Commander in Chief there for gallant conduct in
repulsing and pursuing a large body of the enemy at Fort Cox on the 28th Sept. 1851; he was
also three times noticed in despatches.
216 Major St. Hill served in the NewZealand war of 1860-61 and that of 1863-66. In 1860-61
ho was Aide de Camp to the Governor, but joined his Regiment in the field during the time
active operations were being carried on. On the outbreak of the war in Waikato in 1803 he
was appointed Aide do Camp to Sir Duncan Cameron, served in that capacity and also for some
time as Acting Military Secretary throughout the subsequent operations, being present with
General Camerom at the actions of Koheroa, Rangiriri, Waiari, Rangiawhia, Hairini (horse shot),
Orakau, Gate Pah, Nukuraaru, Kakaramea, besides several minor skirmishes (repeatedly men¬
tioned in dispatches).
217 Major Cotton served as Aide de Camp to Sir Sydney Cotton commanding tlie Peshawur
Division in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny from Dec. 1857 to its termination. Also served
in the expedition on the Euzofzic border under the same General in 1858, and was present at
the destruction of Chingalee, aUo at the destruction of Mungultanah, a stronghold of Mokur-
rabkleans on the Mahabund Mountain. Subsequently at the destruction of Satanah, and at the
taking of the Stockade belonging to the Hindostanee Fanatics on the heights above—mentioned
in dispatches.
218 Major Killcen served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack on the Redan on the 18th June,
and capture of Kinbourn ; at Inkcrman he commanded a Company, and under a heavy fire
rescued the Regimental Colour and was severely wounded on the occasion, but did not quit the
field (Medal and four Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
219 Major Cuninghame served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of
Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack and capture of the Rifle
Pits on the night of 20th Nov. 54 (mentioned in Dispatches), and attack on the Ovens (Medal
and four Clasps, Victoria Cross, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
220 Major Gregoric served with the 23rd Fusiliers in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and
was present at the relief and capture of Lucknow (Medal and two Clasps).
221 Major J. B. Campbell served with the 49th Regt. in China from May 1842 to the end
of the war.
