campaign of 1857-58,—commanded a field force in the Azimghur and Jounpore districts in 1857,
includinii; the capture of the fort of Atrowleea; commanded an advanced guard of picked
marksmen and guns of Frank's force in its advance to Lucknow, including the aclions ofChanda,
Umeerpore, and Sultanpore, and attack on the fort of Bouraha; was attached to the Goorka
Troops at the siege and capture of Lucknow ; present at tlie storming of the Begum's House and
Serai, storming of the Emaumbara and Kaisaba:;h, attack on the Moolvio in Abbasoodowlah's
Kunbullali—mentioned in despatches; present witli a wing of the 13th Lt. Inf. at the 1st relief
of Azlmghur ; appointed chief of the staff to Lugard's force, and present at tlie passage of the
Touse, 2iid relief of Azimghur, capture of Jugdespore, and several skirmislies in its vicinity
(Medal and Clasp).
104 Colonel Lloyd served the campaign of 1815 and was present at the battle of Waterloo,
taking of Cambray, and capture of Paris. Served one campaign latter part of 1826 against
the Rajah of Kolapore. Also the campaign in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844 (includ¬
ing the storming of Punella), and that in the Concan in 1845.
105 Colonel Benson commanded the 17th Lancers in the Crimea from 14th Jan., 1855, in¬
cluding the battle of the Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and com manded the squadron
of the Light Brigade in the night attack on the llnssian Outposts on 19th Feb. 1856 (Medal
and Clasp, 5th Class of the Mtdjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in India in 1857-59, and
commanded the 2nd cavalry column Malwa Division in various operations in Central India,
and in pursuit of the rebel forces under Tantia Topee and the llao Sahib, who were attacked
asd defeated with great loss at Zerapore on 29th Dec. 1858, by the 2nd Cavalry column
(Colonel, Ce., and Medal).
106 Colonel Congdon served with the R. M. Battalion on the north coast of Spain during the
Carlist War. Served with the expedition to the Baltic in 1855 (iMedal).
107 Colonel Bradford served the Eastern campaign of 1854, and up to 9 Feb. 1855 with
the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, including the battle of Alma and siege of Sebastopol (Medal
with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
108 Colonel Maitland served the campaign of 1846-47 against the Kaffirs (Medal), as
Military Secretary to Sir Peregrine Maitland, and received the rank of Brevet Major for his
services. Served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as D. A. Adj.Gen. to the 4th Division
inclnding the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkerman (dangerously wounded), and siege of
Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medijidie,
and Turkish Medal).
109 Colonel Deverell served theDeccan campaigns of 1816, 17, and 18; in the Persian Gulf
in 1819 and 20, including the capture of the Arab fortresses of Ras-el-Khyma and Z3ah; and
in the Burmese war from Nov. 1825 until the peace in 1820, including the capture of Donabew,
attacks on the height near Prome, of Maloon, and of several stockades.
110 Colonel Laye served with the 58th Regt. throughout the New Zealand war of 1846-47,
was engaged in the assault and capture of Kawiti's Pah, and eommandod the troops at Wanganni
when the Maories attacked the settlement and were repulsed (Brevet of Lt.Colonel). In 1855
he joined the Staff in Turkey and was appointed Assistant Military Secretary to Lord William
Paulet, commanding the troops on the Bosphorus.
111 Colonel Airey acted as Aide de Camp to Sir Robert Sale at the storming of the Khoord
Cabool Pass in Oct. 1851, and had his horse shot under him. He served as Aide de Camp to
Major-Gen. Elphinstone,in AfTghanistan, from January 1841, and was present in every skiimisii
or sortie made by the garrison from the cantonments during the insurrection at Cabool, and was
afterwards given up as a hostage. He acted as Aide de Camp to Sir John M'Caskill at the
storming of Istaliff. Was present with the Buffs at the battle of Punniar (Medal). Served the
Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Assist.Qr.Mr.Gen. of the Light Division, including the battles
of the Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp?, CJ3., Knight of the
Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
112 Colonel the Hon. J. W. B. Maedonald served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as Aide
de Camp to the Duke of Cambridge, including the battles of Alma (horse shot), Balaklava, and
Inkerman (horse shot), siege of Sebastopol and sortie of 2Cth October (Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
Medal with four Clasps, C£., Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Modal).
113 Colonel Blane served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Assistant Adjutant General,
and subsequently as Military Secretary, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and In¬
kerman, and siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Ciasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor,
Commander 2nd Class of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
Medal).
114 Colonel Fordyce served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 47th Regt., in¬
cluding the battles of Alma (contusion of left foot) and Inkerman, capture of Baiaklava,
siege of Sebastopol, and sortie of 26th Oct. 54 (Medal and Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel,
CB., 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
115 Colonel Whimper served with the 98th Regt. on the China expedition (Medal) and
was present at the capture of Chin-kiang-foo. Served with the 55th Regt. in the Eastern
campaign of 1854, including the battle of Alma—severely wounded and horse killed (Medal
and Clasp, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
116 Colonel Kelly served with the 31ot llegt. in the Crimea from 22nd May to the end of
June 1855, including the attack of the outworks of Sebastopol on the 18th of June (Medal
and Clasp, 5th Class of the Jledjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of
1857-58 ; commanded a detachment of the 38th Regt., at the battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec.
1857, and the same day commanded a Brigade in the defence of the enemy's captured camp,
