actions at Azimghur, Munnear, Sheoporeghat, and various operations in and around Jugdes-
pore and the jungles, and pursuit to Buxar. On loth June 1858 appointed to command the
troops in the Azimghur and Jounpore districts, and on 2oth June to the command of the dis¬
turbed districts of Behar, Dinahpore, Ghazepore, and Shahabad, and constantly engaged in
pursuing the rebels during the hot and wet seasons; took the field after the rains, defeated
the rebels at Karisath and drove them into the jungle, took Jugdespore, pursued and drove
the rebels into the Kymore Hills, killing 1200; campaign in the Kymore Bills aud successful
night attack at Sulya Duhar. On loth Jan. 1859 appointed to command the troops in
Palamow and Chota Nagpore, engaged in pursuing the rebels in Palamow (frequently men¬
tioned in despatches and thanked by the Governor General of India, Brevet of Colonel,
KCB., Medal and Clasp).
63 Colonel Daubeney served with the 55th Regt. in the Coorg campaign. East Indies, in
1834, and was present at the assault and capture of the stockade of Kisseuhully, and at the
attack on the stockade of Soamwarpettah, where he had charge of one of the two guns attached
to the Column, which by his perseverance and exertions ho saved from capture during the
retreat, served during the Chinese war of 1841-42, commanded the Light Company at the re¬
pulse of the enemy's night-attack at Chinliae, and at the storm and capture of Chapoo; served
on the staff us Major of Brigade to Sir James Sehoeddc at Woosung, Shanghai, and Chin-
kiangfoo—twice mentioned in Dispatches (Medal, Brevet Major, and Cli.). Served the Eastern
campaign of 1854, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman (wounded aud horse shot), siege
of Sebastopol, and repulse of the sortie of 26th October. Commanded the 55th Regt. at the
battle of Inkerman, and succeeded to the command of the tst Brigade, 2nd Division, after
Colonel Warren was wounded, and brought it out of action—mentioned in Division Orders for
the Alma and in the Dispatches for Inkerman (Medal and three Clasps, Knight of the Legion
of Honor, Turkish Medal, and 4th Class of the Medjidie).
64 Colonel C. Herbert commanded the 75th Rogt. during theo perations against Dtlhi and was
wounded in the action of the 8lh June and again at the assault of Delhi (CB., Medal and Ciasp).
65 Colonel Seagram served with the 45th Eegt. in the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal, and
Brevet Major).
66 Colonel Hon. R. W. P. Curzon served as Aide de Camp to Sir George Cathcart in the
Kaffir war in 1852-3 (Medal), for which service he was promoted to the Brevet rank of Major.
Served at the sieae of Delhi in 1857, as Acting Quarter Master General of the Queen's troops
(Colonel, CB., Medal with Clasp).
67 Sir Thomas M'Mahon served with the 9th Lancers in the Sutlej campaign in 1848, and
was present at the battle of Sobraon (Medal). Served the Eastern campaign of 1854 as
A.Q.M.G. to the Cavalry Division, including the battles of the Alma, Balaklava, and Tcher-
naya, and siege of Sebastopol ; served also the campaign of 1855 in command of the 5th Dragoon
Guards (Medal and Clasps, CJi., Sardinian andTurkish Medals, and 5th Class of the Medjidie).
68 Colonel Alex. Maxwell served in the Crimea from 8 Nov. 1854, and commanded the 46th
Regt. at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, CH., Knight of the Legion of
Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
69 Colonel Low served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma,
Balaklava, Inkerman, and Tohernaya, and siege of Sebastopol, also present with the Light
Cavalry Brigade at Eupatoria; at Inkerman he commanded the Regiment (Medal and Clasps,
Brevet Lt.Col., Knight of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, 4th Class of
the Medjidie).
70 Sir Edward Greathed served with the 8th Regt. at the siege of Delhi in 1857 (in command
from 30th June to the end of the siege), present at the repulse of Sorties on the 9th, 14th, and
18th July, and commanded the 3d Brigade during the repulse of the enemy's attack on 23d
July ; commanded the Column sent to occupy the Khoodsiabagh and Ludlow Castle on 7th
Sept. by which operation the batteries were advanced to within 180 yards of the walls ; Jed the
Regt. to the assault and served with it in the City ; on the 24th Sept. left Delhi in command
of a Movable Column and defeated the enemy at Bolundshur, AUyghur, and Agra ; commanded
the 3d Brigade of the Army under Lord Clyde from 10th Nov. 57 to 9th Jan. 58 and present
at the action of Dilkoosha in Lucknow during the operations resulting in the relief of the
garrison ; commanded advanced pickets at Cawnpore from 30th Nov. to 7th Dec, including
the affair of the 2d action of the 6th Dec., also present in the action of Khudagunj and
occupation of Futtehglmr (6'-B., and promoted Colonel for distinguished service in the field).
71 Sir Richard Denis Kelly served with tlie 34th Regt. at the siege of Sebastopol in 1855;
commanded the guard in tlie trenches on the 22nd March, when he was wounded and taken
prisoner in a sortie of the Russians (Medal and Clasp, Brevet Lieut. Colonel, Knight of the
Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian cam¬
paigns of 1857-59; commanded the 34lh Regiment in the actions at Cawnpore on 26tli, 27th
(wounded"), and 28th Nov. 1857, capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, and
relief of Azimghur ; commanded the Azimghur column in the operations in Oude in the winter
of 1858-59; commanded a field force from Feb. to May 1859, engaged in tlie operations on the
Nepaul frontier, and defeated the rebels under Bala Rao near Bootwul (horse shot), capturing
six guns and much baggage (thanked by Governor General and tlie Commander in Chief, fre¬
quently mentioned in dispatches, CJ3., Medal and Clasp, KCB., and distinguished service pen¬
sion).
72 Colonel F. A. Campbell served with the R. M. Battalion on the north coast of Spain,
served with the combined force before the town of Sebastopol during the siege in 18.54-55 ;
was on the expedition to and occupation of Kertch, and advance on Yeni Kale ; commanded
the First Battalion of the R. M. Brigade serving in the Crimea, until the fall of Sebastopol,
also with expedition to and surrender of Kinbourn (Medal and Clasp, 4th Class of the Med¬
jidie, and Turkish Medal),
