Medal). lie was employed as the Queen's Commissioner to the Sardinian Army in the Crimea.
93 Major General Moore was at the destruction of 58 piratical vessels at Cho-Keura in
Oiitober 1849. Accompanied the expedition to the Baltic in 1855 (Medal).
94 Major General Cleaveland served on the north coast of Spain in 1837-39, in co-opera¬
tion with the Spanish army towards the conclusion of the war in St. Sebastian and its
vicinity.
95 Major General Simon Fraser served throughout the campaign in Syria (Medal and
Clasp, and Turkish Medal), including the storming and capture of Sidon (in command of three
companies which forced the Citadel Gate), surrender of Beyrout, bombardment and capture
of St. Jean d'Acre. Served with the R. M. Brigade in the Crimea in 1854-55, including the
battle of Balaclava, and siege of Sebastopol, acted as Major in the Marine Batteries, and in
command of No. 3 Battery was actively engaged at the battle of Balaklava (Medal and two
Clasps, Brevet Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
96 Major General Gibsone served throughout the Kaffir war of 1846-7, and was present
on almost every occasion in which the troops were engaged with the enemy ; and he had the
command of and led the charge of Cavalry in the decisive affair of the Gwanga, on the 8 th
June 184G, when a large body of the enemy was encountered and utterly broken, leaving up¬
wards of 400 dead on the field, on which occasion his services were warmly acknowledged in
the public despatches, and his name particularly mentioned in General Orders.
97 Major General John Fraser commanded a battalion of Royal Marines in the Crimea at
the siege of Sebastopol in 1854 (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
98 Major General Russell commanded the 5th Brigade at the secpnd relief of Lucknow
—severely wounded and particularly mentioned in despatches as liaving much distinguished
himself (C'jB.); commanded 1st Brigade under Outram at the repulse of several attacks on the
Alumbagh; at the fall of Lucknow he commanded 2nd Brigade which stormed the Imaum-
barra and captured the Kaiserbagh (iMedal and Clasp).
99 Major General Burraester commanded the 59th Regt, at the operations before Canton
and capture of the city (Brevet of LtColonel, Medal with Clasp, and CB.).
100 Major General Horatio Shirley served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55; commanded the
88th in the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol; was General Officer of the
trenches in the attack on the Quarries on the 7th June, and at the attack on the 18th June,
and commanded a Brigade at the attack on the Redan on the 8th Sept.—wounded (Medal and
Clasps, CB., Officer of the Legion of Honor, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of
the Medjidie).
101 Major General Newton served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimean Campaign from
18th Oct. 1854 to 8th April 1855 including the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman, and siege of
Sebastopol (Medal and three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie,and Turkish Medal).
102 Major General Dixon served with the 77th Regt. the Eastern campaign of 1854-55,
including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasps,
Brevet Lt.-Colonel, CB., Knight of the Legion of Honor, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal).
103 Major General Milman served with the Coldstream Guards in the Canadian rebellion in
1838, Served in India during the mutiny, and commanded a field force in the Ghazeepore
district in Dec. 1857, preventing the rebels crossing the Gogra and Ganges at their junction,
and at Azimghur on 16 March 1858 ; was engaged with the enemy at Atrowlea and Koelsa on
21st March. Commanded the left wing 37 th Regt. at Azimgbur until relieved by Lugard's
force on 15 April ; held a bridge on the Benares road with a small picquet against a large
force of mutineers on 9 April and secured the passage of a large convoy of stores and am¬
munition into the Azimghur entrenchment (Medal).
104 Major'General Perceval served with the Coldstream Guards at the siege and fall of
Sebastopol from 8 April 1855 (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
105 Major General Cooper commanded the Reserve Battalion 45th Regt. in the Kaffir war
of 1846-47, and a wing of the Regt. throughout the Kaffir war of 1850-53 (Medal), and was
appointed Commandant of tlie Natal Colony at the close of the war.
106 Major General Rumley served with the 6th Regt. through the Kaffir war in 1847
(Medal).
107 Sir Henry Storks served as Assistant Adjutant General at the Cape of Good Hope during
the Kaffir war of 1846-47 (Medal). Commanded the British Forces and all the Military Estab¬
lishments from the Bosphorus to Smyrna during the Russian War, and superintended the
evacuation of Turkey by the British Army after the termination of hostilities in 1850.
108 Major Gentral T. C. Smith, prior to entering the Army, served for a short period in the
Navy, and was three times wounded. He served in the Peninsula from June 1813 to the end
of that war in 1814, and was present at the affair of Ordal. He served also the campaign of
1815, and was wounded at the battle of Waterloo.
109 Major General Pott served the Gwalior campaign of 1843-44 and was present at the
battle of Maharajpore (Bronze Star).
110 Major General Morris served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, and was present at
the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal and Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Med¬
jidie).
111 Major General Hodge commanded the 4th Dragoon Guards in the Eastern campaign of
1854-55 ; was on board H.M.S Sanspareil in the naval attack on Sebastopol, 17th Oct. 1854 ;
also present at the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, night-attack on
Russian outposts, 19ih Feb. and.battle of Tchernaya, 16 Aug. 1855 (Medal and Clasps, CB.,
Officer of the Legion of Honor, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
