War Services of General Officers of Royal Marine Forces. 402a
' General Meade served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the R.M. Brigade, including the battle of
Balaklava and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with two Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served
on the China Expedition of 1857-59, including the blockade of the Canton river, operations before and capture of
the city, afterwards as Quarter Master of the 2nd Battalion. Served with the expedition to the nor;h of China
in i860, iucludingthe action of Siuho, taking of Tangku, storm and capture of the North Taku Forts, and subsequent
operations (Medal with three Clasps).
* General F. E. Halliday served with the Baltic Expedition in 1855, and in the flotilla of mortar boats during the
bombardment of Sweaborg (Medal).

' Colonel Ogle was landed from H.M.S. Brisk in command of a detachment of Royal Marines for the protection
of Cape Coast Castle during the mutiny of the Gold Coast Artillery in October 1862, and received a vote of thanks
from the Colonial Government. Served in China in H.M.S. Rodney from September 1867 to September 1869;
commanded the Royal Marine Artillery of the Battalion of Royal Marines from the S([uadron at the occupation of
Yangchow in Nov. 1868 ; served with the Battalion at the attack and capture of three walled villages in January
1869 (mentioned in despatches). Served with the Battalion of Royal Marine Artillery throughout the Egyptian
war of 1S82, and was present in the engagements at El Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta (slightly wounded), in the
actions at Kassasin on the 28th August (mentioned in despatches) and 9th September, and at the battle of Telel-
Kebir (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star).
