^"'Maior General L.O'Connor served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 23rd Fusiliers, incliidingthebattle of
Alma,where after being severely wounded he carried the Queen's Color (Lieut. Anstruther who previously carried it
having been killed) and planted it on the Russian Redoubt under a heavy fli-o, and carried it until the action was
over—received the thanks of Sir George Brown and General Codrington on the field ;—siege and fall of Sebastopol.

the rc under the following circumstances ;—"Was one of the centre Sergeants at the battle of the Alma, and
advanced between the Officers, carrying the colours. When near the Redoubt, Lieutenant Anstruther, who was
carrying a colour, was morttxlly wounded, and he was shot in the breast at the same time, and fell; bui;, recovering
himself, snatched up the colour from the ground, and continued to carry it till the end of the action, although
urged by Captain Granville to relinquish it, and go to the rear, on account of his wound; was recommended for
and received his commission, for his services at the Alma. Also behaved with great gallantry at the assault on
the Redan, 8th September 1855, where he was shot through both thighs." Served in the Indian campaign of
f 5*57-58, including the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Gawripore, siege and
capture of Lucknow and operations across the Goomtee under Outr.am, and several other minor actions (Medal

'" Major General C. E. Oldershaw served in the Crimean campaign from January 1855, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and bombardment of April; was employed on special service
in 1855-56 (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Mojidie, and Turkish Medal).
'** Major General E. J. Oldfield served in the Indian campaign of 1857-59, and was present at the relief of Arrah
('wounded) and defeat he Dinapore mutineers at Jugdespore (mentioned in despatches); present with Havelock's
Force in the actions of Mungarwar and Alurnbagh, and defence of the latter until arrival of Lord Clyde; action
of La Martiniere and relief of Luoknow ; with Oatram's Force at the Alumbagh, in repulse of numerous attacks
and operations ending in the capture of Lucknow ; sul:)sequently in the final campaign in Oude, including capture
of the Forts of Shunkerpore, Omotee, and Oomrea, and actions of Dounderkeira and Bu.varghat (Modal with two

■^ Major General H. T. Oldfield served in 1854-55 against Hill Tribes on the Peshawur Frontier (mentioned in
despatch). Also with the force under Colonel Craigie in the operations against the Busee Kheyl Tribes in March
1855 (Medal with Clasp). Served in May and June 1857 in the Indian mutiny against insurgents. Present at the
action of the 5th July 1857 at Agra—charger wounded. Served in command of a Squadron of Sikh Horse with
the column under Brigadier Showers in the pursuit of Tantia Topee from December 1858 to May 1859. Present ab

^'Ji Major General W. S. Oliphaiit served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and capture
of Mooltan, surrender of the Fort and garrison of Cheniote, and battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps).
^'2 Major General J. R. Oliver served in the Indian campaign in 1857-58, including the action of Paudoo Nuddee,
operations of the 27th, 28th, and 29111 Nov. before Cawnpore, and battle there on 6th Dec, actions of Kales Nuddeo
and Ramgnnga, siege and capture of Lucknoiv, actions of Bareilly, Shahjehanpore, and Mohumdee, capture of
the Fort of Rarapore Kusseah, i)assage of the Gogra at Fj'zabad, and affair of Mucheegaun (mentioned in despatcli.
Medal with Clasp). Served in the Bhootan campaign in 1864-65, and commanded the Artillery of the lelt column
at the taking of the Fort of Dalimkote, and in the affair at Chamoorchee (mentioned in despatches. Medal with
Clasp).
^'^ Major General J. J. S. O'Neill served with the 20th Regiment in the Crimea from 30th May 1855, including
the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and was wounded at the affair of the i8th June; also jjresent at the capture of
Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, including the
actions of Chanda, Umeerpore, and Sultanpore; siege and capture of Lucknow, subsequent operations in Oude,
and affairs of Meangunge, Beerah (thanked in despatch), Buxar Ghat (as Brigade Major), Churda, and Fort of
Musjeedia (Medal with Clasp).

5™ Major GeneralW. C. O'Shauglmessy served with the 12th Regiment throughout the New Zealand war of 1S63-66,
and was present during the remainder of the Waikato campaign under Sir Duncan Cameron, also at the oiierations
before and assault of the Gate Pah (Medal).

5™ Sir Charles Palliser as Adjutant Sind Camel Corps was severely wounded in an action with the Sheoranees
on the Der.ijat Frontier on the i4lh March 1853 (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp). Served the Indian
Mutiny campaign of 1858-59 ; accompanied the Advance Column under Major B.enaud from Allahabad towards
Cawnpore (wounded 2nd July 1857), and served with Havelock s Force from its first taking the field ; commanded,
Irregular Cavalry in the actions of Futtehpore; commanded right troop with Barrow's Vohmtoer Cavalry in the
actions of Mungarwar, Alumbagh, and first relief of Lucknow (wounded and two horses shot) ; defence of the
Residency till the second relief by Lord Clyde; subsequent occupation of the Alumliagh vmder Outram from
November 1857 to March 1858, including actions of Gahilee, repulse of rebel attack, capture of Lucknow, Served
with Hodson's Horse at re-occupation of Fyzabad and crossing of the Goomtee at Sultanpore. Commanded ist
Regiment of Hodson's Horse in the action of Daoodpore, and in repulse and pursuit of rol)els at Khandoo Niuldee,
dangerously wounded (mentioned in despatches, Medal with two Clasps, a year's service, and Brevet of Major).
Commanded the loth Bengal Cavalry in the Abyssinian expedition (mentioned in despatches. Brevet ot Lt Colonel,
and Medal). Served in the Afghan war of 1878-80. Commanded the advance of Sir Donald Stewart's Forces in
the march upon Candahar, and repulsed the enemy's cavalry at Tukht-i-Pul and Saiiudin. Commanded tlio
Cavalry Brigade of the Ghuznee Field Force in the engagement at Ahmed ICheyl and a force of ill 1 arms in the
action at Oorzoo near Ghnznee. Commanded a Cavalry Brigade sent in jiursuit of the Zoormuttees and other
tribes, and was present in the engagement at Padkao Sliana (mentioned in despatches, and received the thanks of
the Governor General and of the Commander in Chief in General Orders, KCLS., Medal witli Clasp).
'"" Major General C. F. Parkinson served with the gjth Regiment in the Crimea from 30th May 18 = 5, including the
siege and fall of Sebastopol, attack of the Quarries on 6th June, attack of the i8th June, and assault of the Kedau
on 8th September (wounded, Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the Central India campaign
in 185B-59, including the Siege and capture of Kotah, pursuit of Tantia Topee, and action at Barode (mentioned ui
