Turkish Medal). Served in India in 1857-58. was with Outram's Force at the siege and capture of Lucknow, where
he commanded the Artillery of Br. General Walpole's Division, and was specially noted as having "distinguished

'* Sir Harry Lumsden served as Interpreter and Quarter Master to the 33rd Bengal Native Infantry in
Afl"ghanistan with General Pollock's Force in 1842, and present at the forcing of the Khyber Pass, operations in the
Mazeena and Sungoo Khale Valleys under Brigadier Monteith, battle of Tazeen, forcing of the JugduUuck Pass^
and recapture of Cabool (Medal). Served as Interpreter and Quarter Master 59th N.I. in the Sutlej campaign
in 1846, and was severely wounded at the battle of Sobraon with the attacking Column (Medal). Appointed Extra
A.ssistant to the Governor General's Agent, N.W. Provinces, on 15th April 1846, and present with a Brigade of Seiks.

Ballakote, and received the thanks of Government. Raised the Corps of Guides, Cavalry and Infantry, 13th Dec.
1846, and present in command of them at the siege of Mooltan in January 1849 ; cut up a strong Detachment of rebel
Seik Infantry under Gunda Sing in Maharaja Golab Sing's territory, and thanked by Government; and present at
the b.attle of Goojerat (mentioned in despatches, Punjaub Medal with two Clasps, and Brevet of Major). Has com¬
manded the Guide Corps in sixteen affairs with hill tribes on the Peshawur frontier, including Lt.Colonel G. St. P.
Lawrence's attack on Baboozie, Pulie Zoormundie, and Shore Khanie in 1847; Lt.Colonel Bradshaw's attack on the
same villages with the addition of Suggow and Moora in 1850; Sir Colin Campbell's affairs of Dubb, Nawadund
Planghar, Iskakote, in 1852. Served in Brigadier General Chamberlain's expedition against Cabul Khale and
Masood Wuzeerees in 1859-60, and commanded the left attack at the forcing of the BurruraPass, as well as at Camp
Puloseen when a heavy night attack was repulsed and the enemy severely punished (Medal with Clasp). Conducted
a political mission to Candahar in 1S57. Was severely wounded by a fanatic while in command of the Guide Corps,
2nd Aug. 1864.
" Lieut.General J. E. T. Nicolls served the Gwalior campaign of 1843-44, including the battle of Maharajpore
(Bronze Star). Was severely wounded in the Sutlej campaign (Medal).
