881 War Services of the Officers of the Militia Artillertj and Engineers.
of Nusrutpore, Chanda, Ilmeerpore, and Sultanpore. Present with the 4th Division before Lucknow from ;th March
till its fall, including the forming of the Lesser Emaumbarra andtheKaiserbagh. Served as D. A. Adj. General from
29th March with Lugard's Column, and present at the relief of Azimghur ; operations to 4th June (sali're cut on right
hand) against the Jugdespore rebels, including the attack on that stronghold and eight minor skirmishes. As D. A.
General in the disturbed diatricts of Ghazeeporo and Behar under Brigadier Douglas from 15th June to Nov. 1858, in-
cludmg the operation s in the former district in July and August, and the campaign in Shahabad in Oct. and November.
<'ommanded a detached body of 250 Mounted Riflemen and Cavalry in pursuit of the rebels after they evacuated
Jugdespore on i8th Oct., intercepted antl turned them from the Soane river, and three times engaged and defeated
them, once at Ncnadee on 20th Oct., inflicting considerable slaughter. Commanded a Detachment of Hodsou's
Horse with the Army in Oude under Lord Clyde, and present at the skirmish at Burgudeea, capture of Musjeedia,
and final action on the Raptee on 31st Dec. 1858. Served till the conclusion of the campaign in command of the ist
Regt. Hodson's Horse. Was repeatedly mentioned in despatches, has received the Victoria Cross, the Brevets of Major
and Lt.Colonel, a j'ear's service for Lucknow, and Medal with two Clasps : was awarded the ItC under the follow¬
ing circumstances : "' In the combat at Cawnpore Lieutenant Ha.velock was mv Aide de Camp. The 64th Regiment
had been much under artillery fire, from which it had severely suffered. The whole of the infantry were lying
down in line, when, perceiving that the enemy had brought out the last reserved gun, a 24-pounder, and were rally¬
ing round it, I called up the regiment to rise and advance. Without any other word from me, Lieuteuant
Haveloek placed himself on his horse, in front of the centre of the 64th, opposite the muzzle of the gun. Major;
Sterliug, commanding the regiment, was in front, dismounted, but the Lieutenant continued to move steadily on
in front of the regiment at a foot pace, on his horse. The gun discharged shot until the troops were within a
short distance, when they fired grape. In went the corps, led by the Lieutenant, who still steered steadily on the
gun's muzzle until it was mastered b.y a rush of the 64th.'—iij<roc< of a Telegram from the late Major General Sir
Henry Haoeloek to the Commanier in Chief in India, dated Cawyipore, iSth August 1857." Served in the New Zealand
war of 1863 and to the end of 1864 (Medal), and present at Rangariri, Paterangi, and Orakau; commanded at thej
skirmish of Wai.are, where the enemy's loss fell wholly on the Ngatimaniapoto tribe, the originators of the war.
^ Lt. Colonel Brooksbank served the Eastern campaign of 1834-53 with the 8th Regiment, and was present at th
battle of Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, iucludiug the repulse of a sortie on the 21st December, attach
and occupation of the Cemetery (Medal with two Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidio. and Turkish Medal).
'•' Major Edwards served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1883 with the Commissariat and Transport Sta
(Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
Southern Division.—1 Major Garrett served in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1858-59 (Medal).
Scottish Division.—1 Sir P. Arthur Halkett served the Eastern campaign of 1854-53 with the 42nd Highlanders,
including the battles of Alma and Balakla va, expedition to Kertch, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assault en the
outworks on the i8th June (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
North Irish Division.—1 Colonel Tottenham served with the Scots Fusilier Guards in the Crimean campsiign
from ijtli Jan. 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with one Clasp, 5th class of the MedjidieJ
and Turkish Medal). 1
^ Colonel Lowry served in India in 1857-38, and was present at the affair of Futtyahad, capture of Chanj
riairee Port, action of Sahao, siege and capture of Jhansi, capture of Fort Lahorie, attack on Koonch, and
eaptureof Calpee (three times mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp). '
* Major Doyne served in the Crimean camiiaign from May 1S55, and was present in the Trenches with the sii -
tr.ain at the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, sth Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
= Major Lawrence served with the 14th Regiment in the New Zealand war of 1S60-61, and in that of 1863- ;..
including the action at Kohewa (Medal).
South Irish Division.—' Captain Jones served in the operations against Seknkuni in 1878 ; also in the latter part o'
the Kafir war of 1878. Served in the Frontier Light Horse throughout the Zulu war of 1S79, and was present in thr
engagements at the Zlobane Mountain, Kambula, and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).

Anglesey Engineers.—' ColonelLewis served with the 5th Dragoon Guards in the Crimean Campaign in 1854-5
inchuling the battles of Balaklava and lukerman, battle of the Tchernaya, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal witl
three Clasps, Turkish War Medal, and 5th Class fd' the Medjidie).

C'andahar with the force under Major General Phaj're (mentioned in despatches, Medal).

Royal Scots.—' Lord Lothian served on the Staff of Sir J. Outram in the Persian war; ws.s present at i'
taking of Mohumrah, and accompanied the troops in their advance upon Ahwaz (Medal with Clasp),
' Lt.Colonel Gordon served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Ah
Balaklava, and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and sortie of 26th Oct.; was Aide de(;amp to General Sii
son from 22nd Aug. to 12th Nov. 1855 (Medal with four Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
^ Major Scobie served throughout the second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874 with the 42nd Highlandi
and was present at the battles of Amoaful and Ordahsu and at the capture of Coomassie (Medal with Clasp).
■* Captain Grant served in the Egyptian war of 18S2, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal wi
Clasp, and Khedive's Star).
The Buffs.—' Colonel Howell was present as Aidede Camp to Colonel Herman, the Consul General of Tripoli,
the Expedition which was sent by the Turkish Government in the winter of 1855-56 to suppress a rebellion of
Arabs in the Gharien and Jebbe Mountains (Turkish Military Order of Merit).
'■> Lieut. Akers served in the Nile lExpedition in 18S4-85 with the Canadian Voyageurs, and was present at

Warwickshire Regiment.—' Colonel Grimston served with the 19th Regt. in the Crimea from 5th Jan.

engagement at Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
Royal Fusiliers.—' Colonel Dundas served with the '12nd Regiment in the Crimea from the T6th Au;
1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol, aud attack of the Redan on the Sth September (Medal with Ulasj
and Turkish Modal).
