which battle. Captain Dymock, 95th Foot, having been killed, he was appointed Aide de Camp to the British Com¬
missioner, Sir Lintorn Si'iimons, in whic.li capacity he sorved until Aoril 1856, receiving warm acknowledgments
of his services from that orticer on resigning tiie appointment (Turkish Modal, and 5th Class of the Medjidie). Pro¬
ceeded to China in command of a Mountain Tr,iin Battery with the expedition in i86o. Present at the defence of
Shanghae when attacked by the rebel army on the i8t)i loth and 20th August i860. By a well-directed shell from
a mountain train howitzer laid by himself, ho wor.nded ('hung Wong, Commander in Chief of the reliels, iu the
face, in addition to kdling and wounding sev'eral of his Stall'. Was senior oflieer of Artillerj' and in command of
the South G ite Post, the principal point attacked, during t'le defence (mentioned in de.ioatches, Medal).

three Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"^ Lt.Generai Goodlake served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including, the battles of Alma.
Inkerman, Balaklava, and Tchernaya, and siege and lall of Sebastopol. He volunteered for the Sharpshooters of
the Brigade of Guards, commanded them for 42 days, and was engaged at the repulse of the sortie of 26th October
1S54; ''i"l he served on the Quarter Master (Jeneral's Staff from Feb. 1855 (Medal with four Clasps, Brevet of
Major, Victoria Cross, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th CIa«s of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal): received the
I'C " for distinguished gallantry whilst in command of the .sharpshooters furnished by the tUildstreiin Guards, on
the 28th October 1854, on the occasion of ' the powerful sor;.ie on the Second Division,' when he held the Windmill
Ravine, below the Pniuet House, against a much larger force of the enemy. The party of Sharpshooters then
under his command killed thirty-eight (one an officer), and took three prisoners of the enemy (of the latter, one an
officer), (Captain Goodlake being the sole OHioer in command. Also, for distinguished gallantry on the occasion of
the surprise of a piipiet of the enemj-, iu November, at the bottom of the Windmill Ravine, by the sharpshooters
under his sole leading and command, when the knapsacks and rifles of the enemy's party fell into his hands."

the siege and fall of Sebastopol, was severely wounded at the assault of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal w itii
Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also during the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and was present with Havelock't
Column at the relief and subsequent defence of Lucknow (twice mentioned in despatches;, defence of the Alumbagh
under Outram. and cai)ture of Lucknow by Lord Clyde (Medal with two Clasps, and a year's service).
'°^ Lt.General H. (j. Woods served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimea from 20th Nov. 1854, and was
present at the siege and fall ol Sebastopol, and commanded the Grenadiers of the r)7th with the storming party of
the Redan on the 3th Sept.—wounded (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, sth Class of the Medjioie, and Turkish
Medal).

Served also in the Indian campaign in 1857-53, inclu ling the relief of Lucknow by Lord Clyde, the storming of the
Secundrabagh and of the Shahnujeev (was the first through the breach at the SecundiMbiigh and was sliglnly
wounded on the head by a tulwar cut), battle of C.awupore on 6th Dec. and pursuitt) Seraighat, action of Khoila-
g'iiigc, storming of the Beegum Khotee and capture of Lucknow—severely wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal wit'i
two Clasps). Served with the Euzofzai Field Force in the campaitrn a'jainst the Boneyrs and other mountain tr bes
on the N.W. Frontier ot India in Dec. 1863, and commanded the Regiment whilst encampeil in the Uuibeyla Pass
(meutioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp).

'"" Lt.General A. A. Nelson served as Sub Assistant Commissary General in sole charge of troops of Bom')i,y
Army toroughout the operations in Candahar and Affghanistan during 1841-42 under Sir Wm. Nott (Medal), anil wa <
present in tne actions of Kale Sheekle, Nungie Keek, (Joaiue, Ghuznee, and occupation of Caboiil, and in all the
affairs lu which the Candahar Division was engaged in its progress through the KhoardCabool, Tozeen, Jug liilluck
and Khyber Passes. Accinpanied the Bombay troops uniler Colonel Stack from Ferozepore to effect a jiiiicti.in with
the army under Sir Charles Napier in Sind and was present at the battle of Hyderabad (.Medal,. Received the
thanks of the Governor General of India and also of the Bombay Government for the manner in which the duties of
Commissariat had been conducted. Served iis Aide de Camp to Sir Thomas Valiant in the acii.Tin of Maharajpore
29th Dec. 1843, and had a horse shot under him (mentioned in despatches. Bronze Star). On the outbreak of the
insurrection in Jamaica in 1865 he was appointed (being then Deputy Adjutant Genei-al) Brigadier General to
command the Troops in St. Thomas-in-the-East. Received the thanks' of tiic Governor and a vote, unanimous'. ■
passed by the Jamaica House of Assembly, of 200 guineas for a testimonial in recognition of hi.s services.
'"' Lt. General E. A. Williams commanded the lioyal Artillery in New Zealand in 1864-66 during the Waikatu,
Tauranga and Wanganui campaigns, and was present at Kangiawhia, Haerini, Gate Pah, Nukumaru, and several
minor atfjiirs (twice mentioned in despatches, Cli., and Medal).
