' Lord Mark Kerr commanded the J3th Light Infantry in the Crimea from the 30th June 1855, and was at the
battle of the Tchemaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Turkish Medal, and 5th Class of the Medji-
die). Commanded the ist Battalion 13th from the 3rd Oct. 1857 in suppression of the Indian mutiny. Commanded
the field force of Artillery Cavalry and Infantry at the relief of Azimghur on 6th April 1858 {CB. and thanked by
the Governor General for " the gallantry and skilful management which met and broke through a very formidable
opposition"). Commanded the Battalion in the escort of a large convoy of stores and ammunition into the garrison
of Azimghur on 9th April and the subsequent pursuit of Koer Sing's army on 14th April; crossed the Ganges and
took command of the field force in the Shahabad District. Commanded the field force of Artillery Cavalry and
Infantry in the attack on and retreat from the Fort of Tugdespore (wounded). Commanded the Battalion in the
Trans-Gosrra campaign, including the action at Toolsepore and during December and in January 1S59, in the pur¬
suit of rebels (Medal).
' Lt.Colonel Cox served in the Indian campaign, and wa3 present in the two actions at Amorah on 17th and
25th April 1858,111 the first of which he commanded the Skirmishers in a successful attack on the enemy's left(Medal).
Served in the operations against Sekukuni in 1878, and present at the storming of Tolyana's Stadt. Served with
Wood's Column in the Zulu war of 1879, and present in the engagements at Zungin Nek and Kambula—severely
wounded (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
* Lt.Colonel Persse served with the lathLightlnfantry during the operations against Sekukuni in the Transvaal
in 187S, including the storming of Tolyana's Stadt. Served also throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and was present
at the engagements at Zungin Nek, Kambula Hill (wounded), and Ulundi (Brevet of Major, Medal with Ciasp).
'o Major Justice and Captain Hillas served in the Zulu war of 1879, and were present in the engagement at
Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
" Colonel Parr served during the Kafir war of i877asColonialMilitary Secretary to the Cape Government, and
was employed to inspect and report on the Colonial Forces. On the outbreak of the Zulu war in 1879 he served as
Assistant Staff Officer to Colonel Glyn's Column. Afterwards as Military Secretary to the High Commissioner
(several times mentioned in the despatches of his Excellency Sir Bartle Frore, Medal with Chisp, CMO-.). Served
in the Boer war of 1881 as Commandant of the Remount EstaWishment, and also as Commandant of a corps of
Mounted Infantrj-. Commanded the Mounted Infantry ia the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present in the
engagement at Tel-el-Mahuta—severely wounded (twice mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, 4th Class of the
MediTdie, Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served in the expedition to the Soudan in 1884 as Commandant of
Suakin and afterwards in command of Native Troops at Suakin; organized a carrier corps for service with
British troops and also a troop of Mounted Infantry for scouting duties; was present in the engagement at Temai
(mentioned in Admiral Sir William Hewitt's despatches. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, two Clasps). Served in the Nile
Expedition in 1884-S5 as Commandant of Shellal (Clasp, 3rd Class of the Osmanieh).
'- Lt.Colonel Kinloch, Majors Evans and Thurlow served in the operations against Sokukuni in the Transvaal
in 1878; also throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and were present in the engagements at Zungin Nek, Kambula
Hill, and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
" ilajors Waddy, Fownes, and Gallwey, Captains Clark, and Williams served in the operations against Sekukuni
in the 'Transvaal in 1878, including the storming of Tolyana's Stadt; also throughout the Zulu war of 1879—Mojor
Gallwey as Adjutant of the ist Battalion—and were present in the engagements of Zungin Nek, Kambula Hill,
and Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
