paign of 1854-55 ; was present at the battles of Alma (mentioned in despatches) and Inkerman, the minor aflfairs
ofBulganac, M'Kenzie's Farm, capture of Balaklava, and throughout the whole siege of Sebastopol; led the
main Column cf attack on the Redan by the Light Division on the i8th June, and commanded a Brigade in the
latter part of the action (slightly wounded, mentioned in despatches); was engaged in the final assault of the
Redan on the 8th September (severely wounded, mentioned in despatches); commanded the 2nd Brigade Light
Division from October 1855 to the end of the war (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Colonel, CB., Officer of the
Legion of Honour, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and 3rd Class of the Medjidie).

commanded the Battalion from the 25th August to September (Medal, and Khedive's Star).

1' Captain N. L. Pearse served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the 2nd Battalion of the Irish Regiment, and
was present at the action at Kassasin on the 9th September and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp,
and Khedive's Star).
18 Captain Gosset served with Barrow's Mounted Infantr3' in the Boer war of 1881. Served as Adjutant and
Battalion Derbyshire Regiment in the Egyptian war of 1882 (Modal, and Khedive's Star).
" Captain Tyi-whitt Walker served in the Egyptian war of 18B2 with the ist Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, and
was present at the battle of Tel-cl-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, and Khedive's Star).

- General Parren served the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 with the 47th Regiment—present uninterruptedSy
with the expeditionary force from the commencement of the war with Russia to the breaking up of the Army in the
Crimea at the conclusion of peace, including the battles of Alma and Inkerman, capture of Balaklava, sortie on 26th
October, siege and fall of Sebastopol. Commanded the 47th Regiment at the battle of Inkerman, and uninterruptedly
during the siege of Sebastopol (the Trenches) from 5th Nov. 1854 to 8th Nov. 1855, iucludingthe attacks of the iSth
June and 8th September; at Inkerman he was the Senior Officer of the 2nd Brigade 2nd Division coming out ef
action—mentioned in despatches (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, CB., OfiBcer of the Legion of Honor,
Sardinian and Turkish Mediils, and 4th Class of the Medjidie).
2 General Renny commanded the 8ist Regt. throughout the mutiny in India in 1857-58, a Regiment which
at the commencement of the mutiny disarmed one Regiment of Native Cavalry and three Regiments of Native
Infantry at Mean Meer, near Lahore; Regiments well known to be disaffected and ripe for mutiny. For this
important service, and others performed by the 8ist Regt. during the mutiny, he has received the order of CSI.
and the Indian Mutiny Medal. Commanded the First Brigade in the Sittana expedition of May 1858 under Sir
Sydney Cotton (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
« Lt.Colonel North served in the Ashanti war in 1874 in the Transport Service, and was dangerously wounded
when leading a reconnaissance to discover the enemy's position before the commencement of their attack upon
Pommanah (mentioned in despatch. Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
I" Major Cooper served in the Ashanti war, in 1874, in the Transport Service (Medal). Served in the Boer war
of 1881 in Ban-ow's Mounted Infantry.

(4th Class of the Osmanieh).
15 Captain Churchward served with the 8ist Regiment in the Afghan war in 1878-9, and was present at the
capture of Ali Musjid; subsequently served as Transport Officer with the Koonim Valley Field Force from 24th
October 1879 to 24th May 1880, and with the Khyber Field Force from 2sth May to 23rd August 1880 (Medal
with Clasp). Served with the Bechuanaland Expedition under Sir Charles Warren in 1884-85.
i« Captain Jackson served in the Afghan war in 1878-79, and took part in the operations in the Khyber Pass
(Medal).
