expedition to the Black Mountain under Major General Wilde as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General (Medal with
Clasp).
'-" Colonel G. W. Knox commanded the ist Battalion Scots Guards in the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present
at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp, 3rd Class of the Medjidie, and
Khedive's Star).
'"" Colonel F. E. Sotheby served with the RifleBi-igade in the Crimea from the nth Aug. 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol and storm.ing of the Redan on the 8th September (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served
with the 2nd Battalion throughout the whole of its service in the suppression of the Indian mutiny, including the
capture of Lucknow, and numerous affairs during the Oiide campaign (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the
campaign of iSCoin China, terminating with the surrenderor Pekin (Medal with two Clasps). Kmbarked for the Gold
Coast with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, and served throughout the second phase of the.ishanti war,in 1874,
including the battle of Amoafal, battle of Ordah.su and capture of Coomassie (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with
Clasp).
"" Colonel O. H. A. Nioolls served in the Crimean campaign of 1854 till October of that year. Served also the
camp.aign of 1S55 from September, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal). Was in command of the-Royal Artillery throughoat the operations in Perak in 1875-77 under Major
General the Hon. Sir F. Colborne, including the advance on and capture of Ktuta ia December 1875 (Brevet of
Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp).
'"^ Colonel R. Bennett served the Eastern campaign of 1834 *3 Adjutant of the 63rd Regiment, and was present
at the battles of Alma. Biilaklava, and Inkerman (severely wounded and horse shot), and siege of Sebastopol
(Medal with four Clasps, and Turkish Medal).
^"' Colonel E. A. Stuart served at the siege of Ssbastopol from 22nd April until severely wounded on 7th June
1835 (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Modjidia. and Turkish Medal). Served the campaign of jS6o in China,
including ihe taking of Sinho and Tangku, occupation of Tientsin, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
"'= Colonel P. A. A. Twyuain served in the Egyptian war of 18S2 as Assistant Adjutant and Quarter Master General,
2nd Division, and was present nt the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (mentioned in despatches, C3., Medal with Clasp, 3rd
Class of the Osmanieh, and Khedive's Star).
"*^ Colonel J. S. ILand served with the 82nd Regiment in the Crimea from the 2nd Sept. 1835, including the siege
and fall of Sobastopol (Medal with Clasp, and 'Turkish Medal), Served also in the N.W. Provinces in India in
suppressing the mutiny in 1857-38, including the relief of Luckcow bj' Lord C'l.yde, defence of Cawnpore and
defeat of the Gwalior Contingent, action of Kala Nuddee, and occupation of Futtehghur; served with the Royal
Artillery at the a-ction of Khankur during the Roh'lciind campaign, defence of the Jail of Shahjehanpore, affairs
of Mahomdee and Shahabad, and action of Buukagaon (Medal with Clasp). Served wiih the ist Sikh Cavalry in
command of a Squndron throughout the campaign in China in i860, including the action of Sinho, capture of
'Tangku, capture of the Takoo Forts, actions at Chunkiawhan and Tongchow, destruction of the Emperor's Palace,
and surrender of Pekin iMedal with two Clasps). Served throughout the Abyssinian campaign in 186S, attached
to the Head Quarters Staff as Director to the Highland Transpoit Train, and was present at the storming and
capture of Magdala (twice thanked by Lord Napier, mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal).
i<" Colonel J. E. D. HiU served with the (57th Regt. in the Crimea from the 2gth July 1S33, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol, and was one of the lieutenants of the ladder party at the attack of the Redan on 8th Sept., on
which occasion he was wounded in the left hip, and mentioned in desijatches for "distinguished conduct" (Medal
with Clasp, and Turkish ;\[edal).
1™ Colonel F. L. Edndge served with the 20th Regiment in the Crimea in 1853, including the siege of Sebastopol
and capture of Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Also in the Indian carapaiga from August
1858, including the Trans Gogra operations under Lord Clyde (Medal).
'™ Colonel G. H. Parker served in the Afghan war in 1879-80 in command of the 92nd Highlanders, and was
present in the engagement at Cbarasiab on the 6th October 1879 (mentioned in despatches) and subsequent pursuit
of the Afghans, in theoperations round Cabulin December 1879 including the storming of theAsmai Heights (men¬
tioned in despatches) and the investment of Sherpore, and in the engagement at Charasiab on the 25th April 1S80
(mentioned in despatches); accompanied Sir Frederick Roberts in the march to Candahar, and was present at the
â– battle of Candahar (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with thi-ee Clasps, and Bronze Decoration). Also served
in the Boer war of 1881 in command of the Regiment.
"" Colonel E. Meui-ant served during the latter part of the Indian Mutiny with the 83rd Regiment, and was
present at the surprise of and attack on the rebels under Tantia Topee at Seckur (Medal). Served in the Boer
war of 1S81 m command of the 83rd Regiment.
'1' Colonel C. F. Gregorie served with the 23rd Fusiliers in the Indian mutiny campaign m 1857-5S as Adjutant
of the 23rd Fusiliers, ,and\vas present at the relief of Lucknow and also at its subsequent capture (Medal with two
Clasps). Served in the Egyptian war of 18S2 (mentioned in despatches, OB., Medal, 3rd Class of the Medjidie,
and Khedive's Star).
"* Colonel F. Morley served with the Buffs in the campaign of i86o in China, and was present at ihe action of
Sinho, and t.'ikiug of Tangku and the inner 'Ta'ku Fort (^.Medal with Clasp). Also throughout the operations in
Perak in 1875-76, including the attack on the camp at Qualla Kangsa, and the expedition against the village of
Eungor. Commanded an independent force of the Buffs aT\d ist Goorhas on the left bank of the Perak river on
2otli January 1876 which captured a stockade, two guns, and two war gongs (Medal with Clnsp).
'1^ Colonel W. E. Ma,rsland served with the ist Dragoon Guards in the campaign of i860 in China, and was
engaged at Sinho, present at the fall of the Taku Forts, and engaged in the actions of the i8th and 21st September,
also in the advance on Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
11* Colonel Jus. Gunter served with the ist Dragoon Guards in the Crimean campaign from i6th Aug. 1855,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served also in the campaign
of i860 in China; was engaged at Sinho, present at the fall of the Taku Forts, and engaged in the actions of i8th
and 2iBt September, also in the advance on Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
^•5 Colonel A. Tcmpleman served with the 21st Fusiliers throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-53, including
the battles of AUn.a, Balaklava, and Inkerman (wounded in the hand), siege and fall of Sebastopol, and attack of
the Redan on 18th June; also the expedition to Kinbourn (Medal with four Clasps, Knight of the Legion of
Honor, and Turkish Medal).
"<' Colonel John Fryer commanded the Carabiniers throughout the Afghan war of 1879-80. On the 13th January
18S0, in command of a force of Royal Horse Artillery and Cavalry, he repulsed with heavy loss a large body of
Mohmunds at Ali Boghan. Commanded the Cavalry in the expeditions under Lt.General Bright to the Lughman
Valley and a,gainst the Wazeeree Khugianis. On the 5th July 1880, he commanded a force of Carabiniers and 4th
Bengal Cavalry at the attack and destruction of the Ghilzai villages of Nargoz i, Arab Kheyl, and Jokan {CB., Medal).
'i'Colonel A. H. Wavoll servo with the 4ist Regiment in the Crimea from nth July 1855, including the siego
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served in the Boer war of 1881 as Assistant
Adjutant General at the base of operations.
i'8 Colonel H. J. Degacher served in the Kafir war of 1877-78, and took part in the operations against the
Galekas and in the attack on the Taba ka Udoda; also served in the Zulu war of 1879 {CB., Medal with Clasp).
"5 Colonel H. Le G. Geary served in the Crimean campaign from May 1855, in the Trenches with the siege
train at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and bombardments of the 6th and 17th June and 17th August (Medal
with Clasp, 5th Class ol the Modjidie, and Turkish Medal). Served in the field during the Indian mutiny from
October 185S to 1859 in the Jugdespore district, and with Sir Hope Grant's and Gorruekpore Field Forces. Served
throughout the Abyssinian campaign from ist January 186S as Brigade Major of Arliidery and was present at
the action of Arogeo and capture of Magdala (mentioned in despatches. Brevet of Major, and Medal),
""Colonel T. W. Sneyd served with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in the Indian campaign in 1838-59, including the
action of Nusserutpore, siege and capture of Luoknow, subseauent operations, and action of Koorseo (Medal with
Clasp).
I'l Colonel R. Whigham served with the 42nd Highlanders in the Crimea from 2nd Dec. 1854, including the expe¬
dition to Keitch, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assatilt of the outworks on 18th June (Medal with Clasj), and
Turkish Medal).
