of Koondry (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Afghan war in 1880 in comraandof the Cavalry Brigade in Southern
Afghanistan, and took part in the march to Candahar with the force under Major General Phayre (mentioned in
despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egj-ptian war of 1882 in command of the Cavalry Brig.ado of the
Indian Contingent, and was present at the battle of Tel el-Kebir (twice mentioned iu despatches, CB., Medal with
Clasp, 2nd Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
' Colonel J. H. Hall served at the siege of Sebastopol from 20th Nov. 1854 to i6th Jan. 1855 (Medal with Clasp,
and Turkish Medal),
'■' Colonel W. J. Cluads served as Aide de Camp to General Godwin throughout the Burmese warof 1852-53, and
wfis present at the assault and capture of Marta'inn, the destruction of the river .stockades at Rangoon, attack
on the White House Stockade, 12th April (wounded, but did not ([uit the liold), and operations of the two follow¬
ing days, concluding with the storm of the Great Shoe Dagon Pagoda stockade; also present at the captures of
Bassein and Pegu, the relief of the beleaguered Garrison at Pegu, ani the operations of the four following days,
during which the enemy in force wero driven out of three entrenched positions (Medal with Clasp for Pegu, and
Brevet of Major); received the thanks of the Governor Gcner.at in Couucil on si.K separate occasions during the
war. Served as .a volunteer at the bombardment and capture of Bomarsund in tlie Baltic expedition of 1854
(Medal). Served as Staff Captain at Smyrna from April to September 1855, and as Commandant with rank of
Assistant Adjutant General at Smyrna and Abydos (Dardanelles) from ist September 1855 to 27th October 1856.
'" Colonel Warren served with the Rifle Brigade in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the battles of Alma
and Inkorman and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and
Turkish Medal). Served with the 2nd Battalion during the whole of its service in the suppression of the Indian
mutiny, including the actions at Cawnpore and capture of Lucknow (Medal with Clasp). Embarked for the Gold
Coast in command of the 2nd B.attalion Rifle Brigade and served throughout the second phase of the Ashanti war,
in 1874, including the battle of Amoaful, battles of Ordahsu and capture of Coomassie (several times mentioned in
despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
'2 Colonel J. H. Rocko served with the 2nd Queen's Royals in the Kaffir war of 1851-33 (Medal). Seived with
the i8th Royal Irish in the New Zealand war of 1863-66; commanded a Wing of the 2nd Battalion at the affairs at
Nukumaru on 25th and 26th Jan. 1865 (mentioned in despatches); and commanded the 2nd Battalion at the capture
of the Putahi Pah on the 7th Jan. 1S66 (mentioned in general orders, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel). Served in the
Egyptian war of 1S82 as Deputy Judge Advocate (mentioned in despatches, CJS., Medal, 2ud Clafcs of the Mejidie,
and Khedive's Star).

fall of Sebastopol; wasalso present at the cai>turcof Kinbourn (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish
Medal). Served in the Indian campaign of 1857-58, and was present at the actions of Chanda, Uineerpore, and Sultan-
pore, siege and capture of Lucknow. subsequent operations in Oude, and affliir of Meangunge (mentioned in
despatches (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
^^ Colonel H. R. L. Ncwdigate landed in the Crimea with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, and was present at
the battle of Alma (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Servedalso during the Indian campaign of 1857-5S,
including the action of Cawnpore, and capture of Lu3know; and with Ross' Canlel Corps at the capture of
Calpeo and operations in Central India (Brevet of Major, Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Afghan war in
1878-79 with the Peshawur Vallej' Field Force in command of the 4th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade, commanded
the Lower Koorum Biigade from April to Aug. 1880 {CB., and Medal).
"^ Colonel Godfre.y Clerk served with the liille Brigade in the Indian mutiny, and was present at the Alumbagli
and relief of Lucknow (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Served in the campaign on the North-West Frontier
of India in 1S64, and was present in the engagement at Shubkudder (Medal with Chisp).
" Colonel F. W. Lambton landed in the Crimea in Sjpt. 1S53, and served with the 713! Highlanders in the
Trenches at the siege of Sebastopol, and was present ,at its fall (.Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Served
rn the Central India campaign in 1833-39, and was present at the taking of Fort Nahirgah (mentioned in de¬
spatches. Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
" Colonel R. C. Whitehead served with the 97th Regiment in the Crimea from the 20th Nov. 1854,inclndingthe
siege and fall of Seb.a6topol,and was of the storming party at the assault of the Redan on the 8th September—men¬
tioned in despatches for " distinguished conduct " (Medal with Clasp, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal.
Commanded the 58th Foot in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engagement at Ulundi (mentioned in
despatches, C5., Medal with Clasp).
"" Colonel W. W. Lynch served in Persia wiih the Scinde Horse in 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Joined Havelock's
force on its first taking the field in India, and was present in every action fought by that column (horse killed
under him at Cawnpore). Appointed to the command of a trooj) of Volunteer Cavalry afier the recapture of Cawn¬
pore, and subsequently served as second in command of the Volunteer Cavalry with the Oude Field Force, and
was present in all the actions fought by that force until the relief of Lucknow on the 25th Sept. 1857, and defence
of the Residency until its final relieloii the 24th Nov. following by Lord Clyde (severely wounded, thanked by the
Governor General in Council, mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, and grant of a year's
service for Lucknow). Mentioned in Horse Guards General Orders " for conspicuous and praiseworthy conduct "at
Bermuda during the epidemic of yellow fever in 1864. when he w^s for some mimtlis in command of his Battalion

" Colonel H. G. De la Fosse served in the Artillery at the siege of Cawnpore in 1S37 undor Major Gener.al Sir
Hugh M. Wheeler (mentioned in despatches and allowed to reckon one year's extra service). Served in the .•Vrtil-
