March to 15th April 1858, pursuit of Koer Sing and actions of 17th and zoth April, capture of Jugdespore, action
of 17th i8th and 2Dth Oct. 1858. and subsequent pursuit (Medal).
*** Major Riley served the Eastern campaign of 1854 with the 8Sth Regiment, including the battles of Alma and
Inkerman, and siege of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, Sardinian and Turkish Medals).
'" Major C. F. Roberts served in the Crimean campaign from March 1855, and was present in the Trenches
(wounded) with the Siege Train at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and bombardments of 6th and 17th June and
17th August, and was severely wounded by the explosion of the French powder magazine in Camp on the 15th
Nov. 1855 (Medal with Clasp, Sardinian and Turkish Medals). Employed in India from Jairaary to April 1861 in
command of the Artillery with the Field Force in Sikkim under Lt.Colonel Gawler, and was mentioned in Orders
by the Governor General for his services (Brevet of Major).
'^^ Major T. L. Roberts served with a field force in May and June 1857 against the fort of Hote Murdan held by
mutineers of the 55th Bengal Native Infantry, and subsequently towards the Swat Valley. Present as Adjutant
18th Punjaub Infantry at the mutiny of the sist N.I. at Peshawur in Aug. 1857, and. was severely contused and
slightly wounded by a musket- shot by the mutineers. Served the campaign of 1859 against the rebels on the
Nepaul Frontier as 2nd" in Command 3rd Sikh Infantry; and for several months commanded pests on the fron¬
tier with a Wing 3rd Sikhs and a troop of Irregular Cavalry ; present in the action with the Nana and Bala Rao at
Ruttenpore, anil in carrying their position in the Nepaul Hills on the 28th March ; when reconnoitring in the hills
with two Companies 3rd Sikhs fell in with and conducted into camp Mahomed Hoosain the Nazim of Gorruekpore,
with 20D armed followers and six elephants ; commanded the 3rd Sikhs in the affair with the Nusseerabad Brigade
on nth Nov.; and present at the final surrender of the rebels at Dukairee in December (twice mentioned in de¬
spatches. Medal). Served as D. A.Q.M. General to the force under Brigadier General Stavoley during the operations
against the I'aeping rebels in the vicinity of Shanghai n Ajjril and May 1862, including the capture of the stockades
of Naziang, assault and capture of the walled cities of Kadiug, Tsingpoo, Najow, and TsoUn, affair of Nagiang,
and relief of Kading (mentioned in despatches).
*^' Sir George Robinson was present with the 22nd Regiment at the taking and destruction of the villages in
the Boree Valley under Brigadier Boileau in 1853. Commanded the flank companies of the 22nd Regiment with
the force under Sir Sydne.y Cotton in August and September 1S54 against the Mohmunds, and whs present at the
taking and destruction of the villages of Shahmooschkhyl, Sardeen, and Dubb, on the North West Frontier of
India (Medal with Clasp).
*" Major G. Rowland served with the ist Royals throughout the campaign of i860 in China, including the taking
of Sinho and Tangku, occupation of Tientsin, and surrender of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
*" Major St. John served with the 92nd Highlanders in the Central India campaign from 2 2nd Aug. 1858 to 31st
March 1859 ; ^^as present as Brigade Major at the affair of Rajghur, and as A.Q.M. General at the affairs of Mon-
growlie, Sindwaho, and Korai (three times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, and Medal).
"^t Major F. S. Schombcrg served with the 57th Regiment in the Crimea in 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol, and attack of the Redan on the 8th Sept.; also bombardment and capture of Kinbourn (Medal with
Clasp, and Turkish Medal). On outpost duty under Colonel Warre on the line of the Taptee river in co-operation
with the Central India Field Force. Served in the New Zealand war in 1864-66, including the attack and captui-e of
Ahu Ahu and Kaithe (Medal).
*5* Major Scott seived in the 9th Lancers at the close of the Punjaub campaign in 1849 (Medal). Served as
D.A.Q.M.General to Lugard's Division from 28th Feb. 1858, and was present at the taking of the Dilkoosha,Martiniere,
Banks' House, Begum's Palace, and capture of Lucknow, with subsequent operations; joined detached Column under
Walpole, commanded a Squadron at the attack on Rhodamow, also at the action of' Aligunge (Medal with Clasp,
twice mentioned in despatches). Was awarded the Silver Medal of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society for gallant
conduct on the occasion of the wreck of the troop-ship Julia on the coast of Sind.
"'^ Major B. Shiffner served with the 34th Regiment in the Indian campaign in 1857-58, including the action at
Cawnpore on 26th 27th and 28th Nov. 1857, capture of Meeangunge, siege and capture of Lucknow, and relief of
Azimghur (Medal with Clasp).
*5* Major H. S. Singleton served with the 30th Regiment in the Crimea from the 3th May 1855, including the siege
and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
2s' Major R. P. Smith served with the loth Hussars in the Crimean campaign from the 17th April to the 3rd July
1855, including the capture of Tchorgaun and siage of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
='5" Major W. Spall served in the Crimean campaign in 1855, including the siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal
with Clasp, and Turkish Medal). Indian campaign in 1858-59, and present at the attack and defeat of the rebel
force posted on the first range of the Nepaul Hills in March 1859 (Medal).
"9 Major W. Squirl served as a Lieutenant in' the Au.strian Army under Marshal Radetzki in 1848-49, and was
present at the battles of Mortara and Novara. Served with the 91st Regiment in the KafHr war of 1850-53 (Medal).
'^ Major F. R. Stack served as an Ensign in the 45th Regiment at Newport in Monmouthshire during the Chartist
riots of November 1839, when his father's Company of that Regiment defeated a body of nearly 5,000 armed men
led on by the ex-Mayor of Newport, Mr. John Frost, who attacked the town with the treasonable intention of com¬
mencing a revolution in the government of the country. The defeat of this insurrectionary host after eleven were
killed on the spot and about thirty or forty wounded, was characterized at the time in the Imperial Parliament as
having been the means of saving the whole of England from anarchy and rebellion. For this service each of the
three Officers of the Company received the thanks of the Queen and of the Commander in Chief, and also the thanks
from the counties of Monmouthshire, Glamorganshire, and Breconshire. In April 1855 he was promoted to a
Majority in the Turkish service, and served at Constantinople, Bayrikdere, and the entrenched Camp at Kertch
during the winter of 1855 until the disbandment of the Anglo-Ottoman Force, and has received the 4th Class of the
Medjidie and a Lt.Colonel's commission from the Sultan.
iisi Major Stapylton served in the Indian campaign in 1858-59 with the 2nd Dragoon Guards, including the
action of Nusserutpore, siege and capture of Lucknow (charger wounded), subsequent operations, actions of Koorsee
and Nawabgunge, the Oude campaign, action of Jamo, siege and capture of Birwah, and Trans-Gogra affairs at
Bungaon; commanded a Squadron of the Bays and Drummond's Police Cavalry (Natives) on a detached opera¬
tion at Jamo, in conjunction with the remainder of the Cavalry under Colonel Seymour; and during the operations
against Sirardas Sing near Secrora, he also had a Squadron party detached (mentioned in despatches. Medal with
Clasp).
2«2 Major Stehelin served with the 29th Regiment in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of
Ferozeshah and Sobraon (Medal and Clasp). Served with the 67th Regiment in the campaignof i860 in China (Medal),
2M Major G. N. Stevenson served as acting Major with the 91st Highlanders in the Zulu war of 1879, and was
present at the action of Gingindhlovu and relief of Bkowe (Medal with Clasp).
2" Major Stocks served with the ist Dragoons in the Crimea from 6th Oct. 1854, and was present at the battles of
Balaklava, Inkerman, and Tchernaya, siege and fall of Sebastopol (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the
Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
265 Major Van Straubenzee served with the 32nd Regiment at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan,
including the action of Soorjkoond; he was severely woimded on the 27th Dec. 1848 (Medal with Clasp). Was present
with the force under Sir Colin Campbell against the hill tribes near I'e.shawur in May and June 1852 (Medal with
Clasp). Served as Brigade Major in China, and accompanied the expeditionary force to the North; was present in
every engagement from its landing at Pehtang to the occupation of Pekin (Medal with Clasija, and Brevet of Major)
'^ Major D. Stuart served at the siege and capture of Kittoor in the East Indies in Doc. 1824.
!"" Major W. E. Stuart has received the Turkish War Medal and the 4th Class Order of the Medjidie, for service as
Aide de Camp to Major General M. W. Smith, commanding Osmanli Cavalry.
»>8 Major Studdert served with the 9th Lancers at the battle of Punniar on 29th Dec. 1843 (Bronze Star).
269 Major Sykes served with the 48th Regiment in the Crimea from the 21st April 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal).
"'" Major G. J Teevan served in the Abyssinian campaign in 1868 in command of a Division of the Transport
Train (Medal). ,
