'* Major General J B. Ruck-Keeue served in the Crimean campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of
Inkermau, siege and fall of debastopol (wounded in the Trenches with the siege train as Adjutant left attack
(mentioned in despatches), and bombardments of 17thOctober, 9th Aprd, and 6th and 17th June, and wua with
the Light Brigade at Enpatoria (Med.al with two Clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal).
■^Major General J, Ruggles served with the expedition under General Wheeler against Kote Kangra in 1846.
Was present at the defence of the Residency at Lucknow from June to Nov. 1857 (.Medal with Clasp, and a year's
service). Commanded the 19th Bengal Native Infautrv in the Bhootan campaign in 1865, including the assault
and capture of the Bala Stockades (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp).
'"" Major General Linds-iy Russell served as Brigade Major of Engineers at the relief of Lucknow.by Havclock,
and throughout the subsequent defence of the Residencv—wounded (Medal with Clasp, and a year's service).
'^'^ Major General W. C. Russell served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46, including the battles of Ferozeshah and
Sobraon (vledal and Clasp). Served under Brigadier NeiU against the mutineers at Allahabad in 1S57, and as
Commissary of Ordnnnce with the Army in Oude in 1.S5S (Brevet of Major, Medal).
'^•'^ Major General B. W. Ryall serve! throughout the Sonthal insurrection in 1855-56. Served as Adjutnutof
2nd Hyderabad Cavalry with Kamptee Movable Column, present at the forcing of Khonie Pass on loth Jan. 1858,
at battles of Khobrie and Bandah (wounded, horse also wounded), capture of Kirwee, and in all minor engage¬
ments fought by Central India Force under Major General Whitlock up to June 1858. Commanded 3rd Seikh
Irregular Cavalry during the Shahabad campaign under Brigadiei- Douglas, from August 1858 ; commanded
bouthern division of Cavalry at battle and capture of Jugdispore in Oct. 1858 ; at battle of Bandah, while wounded
and charger also wounded, rendered essential service, and cut down several of the enemy in liand-to-hand combat
(several times mentioned in despatehes, Modal with Clasp for Central India). Served in the Afgtian war of
1878-9 in command of the 8th Bengal Cavalry.
•'S" Major General Salusbury served in the Sutlej campaign of 1845-46 and was severely wounded at the battle of
Ferozeshah (Medal). Burmese war of 1852-53, including tlie recapture of Pegu on 21st Nov., relief of it.s garrison
on 14th Dec, and operations in the vicinity (Medal with Clasp for Pegu). Suppression of the Indian mutiny, and
was present at the storm and capture of Lucknow, slightl.y wouudcd (Brevet of Major, Medal with Clasp). Com¬
manded the loist Fusiliers in the Indian N. W. frontier war of 1863 with the Eusofzaye Field Force, and was present
at the attack and capture of the Crag Piquet, the Conical Hill, and Dmbeyla (C'fl., Medal with Clasp).
®" Major General E. JJ. Saudilands served with the 8th ftegt. at the siege of Delhi in 1857, including repulse of
sorties on 14th, iSth, and 23rd July (wounded by a splinter of a shell on the loth August), and commanded the
Light Company at tbe aesault of the City (wounded); also present in the action of Dilkoosha and relief of Lucknow
under Lord Clyde, the affair of the 2nd and action of the 0th December at Cawnpore, and action of Khudaganj
(Medal with Clasps).
""2 Major General J. P. Sandwith served throughout the operations in Sind in 1843, including the battles of
Meeanee and Hyderabad (Medal).
''^' Major General E. W. Sargent served with the i8th Royal Irish on the China expedition (Medal), and was
present at Woosung, Shanghai, Chin Kiang Foo. and Nankin. Was subsequently Aide de Camp to Sir John Davitt
in China for three years, and acting Aide de Camp to General D'Aguilar during the expedition which assaulted and
took the Forts of the Bocca Tigris in the Canton River; received a severe contusion on the head, and was favourably-
recommended by Sir John Davis to Lord Palmerston for his services on this occasion. Was appointed Adjutant of
the i8th at the storming of Rangoon on Lieut, and Adjutant Doran bemg killed, and served throughout the
Burmese war of 1852-53 (ilodal).
^* Major General E. A. Saunders served under the orders of the Commissioner of Nagpore on vai'ious occasions
against the rebels in Central India in 1858-59.

detached command two Companies of his regiment on field service during the insurrection in North Caiiara from
i8th April till 1st December 1858 (.Medal).
'•^^ Major General C. M. Shakospear served during the second Burmese w.ar in 1852-53, and was present during
the operations before and attack on Rangoon on the nth 12th 13th and i4thApril 1852, assault and capture of
Bassein 19th May 1852 (Medal with Clasp for Pegu).
^''^ Major Geuer.al G. Shaw served in the Crimean campaign in 1855, in the Trenches with the siege train before
Sebastopol, and at the bombardments of 9th April, 6th and' 17th June, 17th August, and 8th September (Brevet of
Major, Medal with Clasp. Sardinian and Turkish Medals, CB., and 5th Class of ttio Medjidie).
^'"' Major General J. Shokleton served in the Punj.aub campaign of 1848-49, including the siege and capture of
Mooltan, and Ijattle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). With the Persian expedition in 1857 (Medal with Clasp).
With the Rajpootana Field'Force in 1858, including the pursuit of Tantia Topee (Medal).
"S' Major (Jeneral J. F. Sherer served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, and was present throughout
the siege operations before Mooltan, including the action of Soorjkooiid, attack on the Suburbs, storm and capture
of the City, and surrender ot the fortress (Medal with Clasp). Led the Head Quarters of the Sylhet Light Infantry
into action againstthe mutineers of the 34th Bengal N.I.atLatoo, Sylhet district, on 17th Dec. 1857, succeeded to the
command of the Corps on Major Byng being killed at the commencement of the light and brought it out of action
after defeating and routing the mutineers (Medal).

capture of Saraunghur.
