1 General Raines served throughout the Eastern campaign of 1854-55, including the affair at Bulganak, the
battle of Alma (where he carried the Queen's Color as a Captain), the flank march by ilackcnzie's Farm, the
battles of Inkerman and Tchernaj'a, and repulse of the sortie of the 26th October 1S54; served as an Assistant
Boyal Engineer throughout the siege and fall of Sebastopol (severely wounded in the Trenches during the
bombardment of the 17th October), and present in the Trenches at the attack of the Redan on the 18th June
(Medal with three Clasps, mentioned in despatches as " having served with zeal and distinction from the opening
of the campaign. Brevet of Ma.ior, Sardinian and Turkish Medals, and stli Class of the Medjidie). Served through¬
out the Indian mutiny campaign in 1S57-59, commanded the troops at the assault and capture of Rowa on 6th
January 1858 (received the high commendation of the Governor and the Commander in Chief of Bombay in
Council for "gallantry displayed and ably conducting these operations"); commanded the Left Wing 95th
Regiment at the siege and capture of Awah on 24th January; commanded the 95th at the siege and ca,pture of
Kotah, and commanded the 3rd assaulting Column on 30th March; was present at the capture of Chundaree 26th
May; commanded the Infantry of Brigadier Smith's Column at the battle of Kota ke Serai; before Gwalior on the
17th June (specially mentioned in despatches by Sir Hugh Rose for " good service and assisting to take and hold
the position of Kota-ka-Seria"); and in the general action, storm and capture of the city and fortress of Gwalior
on 19th June (wounded bj' a musket-ball in the left arm, specially mentioned bj- Sir Hugh Rose for " gallantry and
taking hj assault two i8-pounders " and for " good service in turning the guns captured on the enemy "); present
at the siege and capture of Pouree on 24th August 1858 ; and the surprise and defeat of the rebels at Koondrye on
the 19th January 1859, (in addition to the above he has been four times mentioned in despatches, and marched
3,000 miles in command of the 95th Regiment in Central India, Medal with Clasp, Colonel, and CB. for distin¬
guished service in the field). As Brigadier General commanded the expedition from Aden into the interior of
Arabia in 1865-66, when the troops captured and destroyed many towns and forts, including Ussala-, the Pudthelis
caiJital, and seven cannon (received the commendation of the Commander in Chief of Bombay for the efficient
manner in which those successful operations were effected).
8 Major Kerr, and Captains Hind and Kekewich served throughout the operations in the Malay Peninsula in
^875-76 (Medal with Clasp).
' Major Reeves served with the Buffs in the campaign in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-76, including the action
of the 20th J.anuary (Medal with Clasp).
'1 Major Kelly .served with the Buffs in the oper.ations in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-76, including the
actions of the 20th January and 4th Februarj',and commanded the escort in the reconnaissance of the 12nd January
(Medal with Clasp).
13 Captain Backhouse served with the Buffs in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in he engagements at
Inyezane and Gingindhlovu (Medal with (/lasp).
i' Major Ho war th served with the Buff's throughout the campaign in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-76, including
the action of the 20th January (Medal with Clasp). Served with the Buff's in the Zulu war of 1879 (Medal with
Clasp).
15 Captains Ommanney and Chippindall served with the Buffs in the operations in the Malay Peninsula in
1875-76 (Medal with Clasp).
16 Captain Francis Smith served in the operations against the Galekas in 1S77-78. Served in the Zulu war of
1879, and was present in the engagement at Kambula—severely wounded (mentioned in Colonel Wood's report,
Medal with Clasp).
" Captain Newnham-Davis served with the Carrington Horse (afterwards the ist .squadron mounted infantry)
in the Kafir war of 1878, and commanded a detachment of mounted infantry in the operations under Colonel
Xianyon asrainst the rebels in the Langeberg, being present at the affair at Gobetsch heights. Served with Wood's
iFlying Column in the Zulu war of 1879 in command of a troop of mounted infantry, and was preserit at the taking
of Sirayo's hill and in the engagement at Ulundi (Medal with Clasp).
1' Captain C. H. Gordon served in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the engagement at Inyezane and
in Ekowe during the investment (Medal with Clasp).
15 Captain Holme served with the Buffs throughout the operations in the Malay Peninsula in 1875-76, includ¬
ing the action of the 4th February (Medal with Clasp).
-" Lieut. Allen served with the 3rd Buffs throughout the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engagements
at Inyezane and Gingindhlovn (Medal with Clasp).
21 Captain Knight .served throughout the Zulu war of 1879, first as Orderly Officer to Colonel Pe.arson, including the
engagement at Inyezane .and the occupation of Ekowe (twice mentioned in despatches); and afterwards as Orderly
Officer to Colonel Rowlands (Medal with Clasp).
22 Lieut. Blackburn served in the Zulu war of 1879, was present in the engagement at Inyezane, acd was at
Ekowe during the investment of that place (Medal with Clasp).
23 Lieut Connellan served in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engagement at Inyezane and during
the investment of Ekowe (Medal with Clasp).

Sebastopol, and repulse of the attack on the Cemetery on the night of the 21st Jane 1S53—uaino brought to the
notice of the Commander in Chief for " distinguished conduct" in the Trenches (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish
Medal). Served also in the Indian mutiny campaign of 1857-59 ; was sent into the Mahee Kanta in the monsoon of
.1858 in command of a Light Field Force consisting of 170 of the Guzarat Irregular Horse, the 4th Foot, and 2nd Na¬
tive Infantry as a support to Captain Heycock's Force during operations in lihe field, engaged at the attack and
capture of Mondetti; commanded a Detachment of 4th Foot mth Brigadier Macau's Field Force early in 1859 (Medal).
3 Colonel Twentyman served throughout the Abyssinian campaign in the Transport Train (Modal).
5 Lt.Colonel Borrett served throughout the Abyssinian campaign, and was present at the action of Arogee and
capture of Magdala (Medal).
11 Lt.Colonel Lngard served in the 4th Regiment throughout the Abyssinian campaign of 1867-68, and was em¬
ployed with the Transport Train (Medal). Served in the Egyptian war of 1882 as Deputy Assistant Adjutant and
Quarter Master General in the 2nd Division, and was ]iresent in the battle of Tel-el-Kebir—horse shot (mentioned
in despatcbes. Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Osm.anieh, and Khedive's Star).
12 Major Woodgate served with the 4th Regt. throughout the Abyssinian campaign, and was present at the action
of Arog'ee and capture of Magdala (Medal). Accompanied Sir Garnet Wolseley to the Gold Coast in September 1873
on special service, and served throughout the Ashanti War of 1873-74, including the action of Essaman, repulse of
the Ashanti army at Abrakrampa during the 5th and 6th Novemilier 1873 (in command of the Kossoos), leconnais-
sances in force of the 8th and 27th November, and battle of Amoaful (mentioned in despatches. Medal with Clasp).
13 Captain .MacCarthy served in the second phase of the Ashanti war in 1874 in the Transport Service, and was
in charge of the Post at Accrofiil (Medal). Served in the Zulu war of 1879, and was present in the engagements
at Zlobane Mountain and Kambula (Medal with Clasp).
!♦ Major Hutchinson served with the Mounted Infantry in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the
engagement at Ulundi and in the operations against Sekuiiuni including the storming of the stronghold (men¬
